    And he's a Victorian!!!!

There is always a token Vic in the squad and he is always a gun.

How many Victorians have taken hatricks in Tests?
Quite a few, Hughes, Warne, Fleming, Siddle to name a few!

    Siddle luv ya!!!

If Johnson doesn't take wickets I agree with PJfan31 that they should drop him and put Doug the Rug back in.
Siddle and Douggy are excellent workhorse bowlers and very fierce!

Doug the Rug dances pretty good to in the Vodafone commerical

    G'day yer flamin' galahs! ;)

Got up at 4:45 to watch the opening game, and England were just 4 down. Then half an hour later, Siddle took the hat-trick! Hats off to him.

I got up today expecting Australia to be taking full advantage of the sub-par score England finished with, but was pleasently surprised to see they were 1) behind and 2) five down. Hopefully the new ball can work some magic to remove the remaining batsmen! :)

On this day last year, I was at the Gabba watching Australia vs West Indies, one day after a fantastic PJ show at the QSAC. Today, I woke up to minus 4 degrees and a hefty frost on my car.

Well, hopefully Hussey and Haddin can knock off the deficit, and then the rest can build some sort of a lead.

Been a great 2 days. England are looking very good.

    Come on Hussey

    Awesome....

England bowled so well this morning, and should have had Hussey. But, for all those English who will complain about the decision I will say the following:

    - 2009 Ashes the poms had all(well most) of the luck and it was the Aussies who had the bad decisions including Mike Hussey caught at slip when he missed it by half a foot, so what goes around, comes around.

    - The umpire would have heard two noises. Ridiculously hard to have definitively said that it did not touch the edge.

    - If they hadn't wasted their other referrals, well they would have been able to challenge

THe first session was the best session I have seen in a test for a long time. Great bowling by Anderson. He was unlucky.

I jumped so high when there was that shout against strauss first ball. That looked plum. Would have loved him to have got a pair.

Anderson was superb. SO unlucky, and yes he was out by a mile....

yeah seen it now...just just just by <____> that pitched not on the line .
anderson should have had 4 ...great bowling....but saying that the battle was very good sold ...great catch by colly.

ok so you had two massive scores. top two did ok...the rest zip..last 5 bowled out for 35ish if it was 100 this test would be won already ...
we have to bat now for a day and a half but need to score as well.we need a minium of 400 and then bowl the same as we did ...i do think we have bowled well..bit unlucky .if the wicket fell first think on day 3 you might have only had a very small lead.

johnson might get dropped if he does not take wickets...batting for 45 mins (19balls)and out for 0 wtf.

more short balls please your boys cant play them. on that note i will finish

so its your fault. :P

you know it goes in cycles... australia cant be the best all the time. its unrealistic. sometimes we need to throw in a subpar team or play below our talent just to keep the other countries thinking theyve got a chance. otherwise they just might think theyre losers all the time. ;)8-)

    Surely a draw.

Australia may try for wickets which will prob lead to England scoring more runs.

Who knows where the match would go. You would have to say Australia are in the drivers seat, unless Australia fire in the morning session (unlikely, they can't buy a wicket atm)

I tell ya what though I'm swaying toward England to win the series now. Australia need to change their team, everyone for England (except for Swann and Collingwood) have done well

    Johnson (something anything)
North (bring in Kawaja for the hundredth time)
Clarke isn't fit so... Dunno maybe Kawaja for him and North one more chance, who knows.

Bollinger needs to be in there, but I don't think they will ever drop Johnson.

It is a traditional cricket rivalry for over 100 years (124 I think). Australia vs England. It is decided over a 5 match series (which is nearing the end of the first test)

I think personally, it is one of the greatest rivalries in sport.

The Ashes is a Test cricket series played between England and Australia. It is international cricket's most celebrated rivalry and dates back to 1882. It is currently played biennially, alternately in the United Kingdom and Australia. Cricket being a summer sport, and the venues being in opposite hemispheres, the break between series alternates between 18 and 30 months. A series of "The Ashes" comprises five Test matches, two innings per match, under the regular rules for Test match cricket. If a series is drawn then the country already holding the Ashes retains them.

The series is named after a satirical obituary published in a British newspaper, The Sporting Times, in 1882 after a match at The Oval in which Australia beat England on an English ground for the first time. The obituary stated that English cricket had died, and the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia. The English media dubbed the next English tour to Australia (1882–83) as the quest to regain The Ashes.

During that tour a small terracotta urn was presented to England captain Ivo Bligh by a group of Melbourne women. The contents of the urn are reputed to be the ashes of an item of cricket equipment, possibly a bail, ball or stump. The Dowager Countess of Darnley claimed recently[when?] that her mother-in-law, Bligh's wife Florence Morphy, said that they were the remains of a lady's veil.

The urn is erroneously believed by some to be the trophy of the Ashes series, but it has never been formally adopted as such and Bligh always considered it to be a personal gift.[1] Replicas of the urn are often held aloft by victorious teams as a symbol of their victory in an Ashes series, but the actual urn has never been presented or displayed as a trophy in this way. Whichever side holds the Ashes, the urn normally remains in the Marylebone Cricket Club Museum at Lord's since being presented to the MCC by Bligh's widow upon his death.[2]

Since the 1998–99 Ashes series, a Waterford Crystal representation of the Ashes urn has been presented to the winners of an Ashes series as the official trophy of that series.

England currently holds The Ashes, after defeating Australia 2–1 to regain them in the 2009 Ashes series which took place in England and, for the first time, Wales.
