I haven't got a Twitter account but I am very tempted to create one so I can ask this @TheAshes woman who she thinks should be dropped from the team for the Adelaide test.

Time difference and me not having the channel that's showing the cricket means all I'm doing is reading a bit in the papers. Haven't seen a single ball bowled. So although I could help thrilla out I'd just be regurgitating an article I'd have read somewhere :P

    It's funny the perception.

Aust treating that match as a loss Poms as a win.

At the end of the day, the last 7 wickets went for around a thousand runs. So they were struggling too. The pitch was an absolute road. I probably could have come up with double a hundred

Think it comes from where everything stood halfway through the Aussie 1st innings ... where it looked like we'd definitely lost it ... you were likely to win it. So we're relieved to not have lost (on an upswing) ... you guys went from being in a great position to win ... to a draw (on a downswing). Who knows  :P

yeah I see your point. The first day and a half there was a bit of juice in the pitch. The only other time the bowler looked dangerous was when the ball was new. Evident in Andersons spell to Hussey and Haddin, Hilfenhaus and Siddle to Strauss, cook then later on to Trott. And then Pretty boy Broad drawing the edge from Katich. THe pitch was shit in the end.

    Words from Mr Merv Hughes
What a disappointing final day to an exciting Test match. England, with everything to play for on day five and a chance to win the first Test in the series, squibbed it.

Opening the day with a lead of 88 runs for the loss of one wicket, the Poms chose to dawdle to 1 for 517 before declaring their innings closed with a lead of 296 and 39 overs to play.

Their run rate for the second innings was 3.40, virtually identical to the 3.38 of the first innings where they had a mid-innings collapse and scored 260.

Are they happy to play for a draw in every Test? Were they protecting their tail, which starts after Kevin Pietersen?

Some spirited batting, with the loss of a few wickets, would have given a chance for the batsmen that failed in the first innings an opportunity to play with some freedom and the prospect of regaining some confidence.

A declaration would then have put the pressure back on Australia to try to reach the target, with the risk of losing the Test. As it is, the Pom’s lack of ticker has let Ricky Ponting play himself back into form, and has left a number of the English batting order yet to put bat on ball!

The first four days showed why Test cricket will never die. England recovered well from Strauss’ early loss, but the highlight was surely Peter Siddle’s magnificent afternoon spell resulting in yet another Victorian taking a hat trick. Can we see now why the selectors wanted to pick him?

England fought back well on day two, but Haddin and Hussey showed impressive returns to form, although they also showed how flat the Gabba deck became. Beginning the second innings 221 behind is a situation with more pressure than Mrs Doubtfire’s whoopee cushion, so the performance of Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook was magnificent on day four to put their team in a potentially winning position.

What a shame they wasted the opportunity.

Both attacks took 11 wickets in the match in conditions not helpful to any bowler, but there should be concern about how England’s supposedly superior preparation led to such a meek performance. For mine, Australia wins the Test on points, and we are still set for a 4-0 victory.

But warne down one end, Mcgrath at the other..... Wow.....
    Sure beats the English version.....

    Super spell.

I loved hearing in the video I posted his logic behind it. With Kallis expecting to turn heaps, and he bowled the toppie. Ball went between bat and pad. He is a very good thinker when he comes to cricket.

Yeh thats right, but as a bowler, you need to have the balls to set your field and tell your skipper this is what I want.

If the skipper over rules you then that's his choice.

(another story from my glory days)

I always used to set a few fielders every time I bowled. (I bowled offies), told the captain I wanted to bowl into the wind. I wouldn't bowl with it, it would throw me off, plus it is good for spinners to bowl into the wind if they are looking to flight the ball.

As soon as I would come on, push the mid on back to a long on, and keep mid off up. Tempt the batsman into going over the top against the spin. And the level I was playing most of the batsmen were cowboys. SO they all want to go over the top to a slow bowler. SOme days it paid off, others it didn't. But I would get my fair share of wickets caught at mid off from a top edge,or stumped from them skipping down the track trying to hit me over the top.

Moral of the story is bowler needs to have the balls to set the field.

(Ps, I dont mean to talk myself up, I was an average cricketer, who was at most handy with the ball, pick up a few wickets here and there and very average with the bat coming in at 9,10 or 11 and could stick around for a bit, but that was it)
