The Raptors look destined to miss the playoffs for a fifth straight season for the first time in franchise history – a real “feat” considering the futility of past eras of Raptors basketball – but you wouldn’t know it by the nine sellouts they’ve had this season or the 18,182 fans they average per game.
That passion, dedication and general loyalty among the Raptors’ rabid fanbase has been well documented over the years despite the team’s lack of success, and now fans will pay for that loyalty, literally, as MLSE will increase Raptors (AND MAPLE LEAFS) ticket prices by 2.5 per cent in 2013-14.
To be fair, the organization did slash ticket prices in 2011 after the first post-Bosh season, kept the lower prices in effect for this season and look to floor one of the more costly rosters in franchise history next year, but does MLSE really expect fans to be understanding when Tom Anselmi talks about rising costs?
It’s one thing if the more expensive to operate team was in playoff contention right now, if fans were still watching meaningful games in mid-March or if they looked like a surefire playoff team for next year. Heck, if the Rudy Gay led Raptors are a pleasant surprise in 2013-14 and are a top-eight seed at this time next season, the organization probably could have gotten away with a price increase for 2014-15 even greater than 2.5 per cent.
But to do it now, when there are still as many questions about this team’s future as there are answers, just seems a bit cold. Then again, the only question MLSE needed to ask themselves was will the fans still come out at the new price level? And the answer will most likely remain a resounding yes.
Having said that, as tiny as 2.5 per cent is, if you thought there were unrealistic fan expectations this season, just wait until October, because no one’s going to listen to excuses for an under-achieving team they’re paying more to see.

so true, since the start of the season I've been dreading this slump we were gonna get at some point to start our downard spiral.

count me as seriously surprised at Kadri's output this year, good thing they let me play out some kinks in his game and keeping him in the AHL unlike what they did with Schenn

yeah I'm just as surprised at Kadri's output this season, the last couple of yrs I've been sayin to trade him, never thought he would pan out, always thought he was too soft. He is starting to remind me of Gilmour in a way, not comparing at all, just thinking small, skinny, can produce and can play a little dirty if required

i think everyone is waiting for the other shoe to drop ...
long have we been teased and tempted ... those wounds do not heal easily ...
i gotta say tho - that i like our chances of making the post season not based on the bruins games but the carolina game ... those were the games that always broke our wills ... games we should have won and ALWAYS inexplicably lose ... down 3-2 with 6 or 7 mins to go - it looked like it was gonna happen again ...
in watching this team this year - they have looked both horrible and awesome and it appears - it comes down to this ... when they decide to skate - they can be very good ... but there are far too many stretches when they don't ... if this team does make the playoffs - it will be because of joffrey lupul ...
yeah we have been let down way to many times in the past couple of yrs.....as you said, always seem to be teasing us. Don't believe it will happen this yr. Only 10 games to go......things looking good

actually a very good game, missed all the goals in the 3rd except for Kessel's goal, had to pick up daughter from kick boxing and when I came home..I was like WTF happened. So many times in the past 5 yrs this same sort of scenario happens and the Leafs lose, they seem to have bucked the trend this yr. Can't wait for tomorrow nights rematch at MSG. not sure what he was doing on nash's first goal ... like put your stick down man ... it looked like he was worried about gettting another head shot so when the time came ... he was standing instead of down ... either way - good win and a decent game ... lots of back and forth and how many friggin' posts or crossbars did both teams hit?
would love to know what Phaneuf and Nash were " chatting" about all night,....
