please tell me you are joking.
  • i understand the idea that its a generic song...but not every song can have the crazy ridiculous dynamics a lot of PJ songs have. its a slow song, its meant to sound the way it does. i dont really care as much how the music starts out...i love what ed says in the song....its incredible.

I was watching Live at the Garden last night and this song came on. That's what inspired the thread. I was thoroughly enjoying meself and then TMW comes on. It's like you're looking at a hot woman, and then she leaves and then here comes a fat Poison fan in her CRX with five kids.

Thumbing My Way used to sound quite boring to me but it just grew on me (after 150 Riot Act listens I guess:-) ) and now I DO like it! There is no bad Pearl Jam song (only if you call that red dot thing a song...)

shitty chords?...,,,mmmmmm ok..whatever. you have an opinion and obviously you want us to discuss it.

its a great song. NICE chords, not the most simple to play, but real nice

  • Thumbing My Way is easily in my top five Pearl Jam songs. The version from Cleveland 06 gives me chills...which isn't what I would about any Jet song.

Then again, I don't have the gimmick of being the forum drunk who doesn't like anything from the past 9 years.

What about the fact that it's one of HLF's favourite PJ songs? Surely that's got to count for something..

  • TMW ranks right up there with Evacuation in my book.

Or perhaps I should say down there. Actually that's not fair, the lyrics in Thumbing aren't bad at all- musically it's the most mind-numbingly boring song I've heard from just about any decent band.

Although I have not evaluated the lyrics, the way it sounds depresses me. An old friend once said that TMW sounded disjointed when Riot Act was first released. I would not say it sucks though, just not a pj song that I listen to.

    Fanch is not lame.

People that dislike TMW have no soul.

You all got it wrong. He didn't mean to say "Thumbing My Way Sucks", what he really meant was "Sucking My Thumb Ways". I know he's got like 50 different ways to suck his thumb.
