1) Listen man, I have my favorite albums, the ones that occasionally get played, and the ones that haven't seen the light of day much. I just take offense when I hear folks criticizing music based simply on their personal opinion. I mean, the title of this thread was "music critic roleplay". Music critics, at least in theory, are assigned the task of critiquing music based on the artistic integrity of the music, not their own personal tastes.
2) By the way,I would think if you described punk as "disorganized and terrible" and that it hurts your ears, most real punks would slap you on the back and say "FUCK YEAH" (that's what they intended it to be....)
1) Personally, I think my musically taste is very very diverse and extensive on various genres from hard rock, rock, hip hop/rap, experimental rock, jazz, techno, trip hop, etc. So I think my personal taste is somewhat from a music critics' views. *with a personal dislike for punk and death metal.
2) True, that's why the majority fanbase are teens, college kids, and troublemakers. Punk is not music, in my honest opinion.
Again, it's just a matter of taste. Some people like the music. I think Parachutes is fucking beautiful. I think Army Reserve is interesting as hell. Marker in the Sand is interesting.
I love the aggressive E-Bow work on WWS. I really like Severed Hand, musically. Come Back has an interesting vibe to it I'm not sure they've approached before.
Like I said. Matter of taste.
Holy-shit, we found something in common. Yes tracks 2 & 6 are the few good quality songs on that album. Come Back is decent. But other tracks aren't in my favor.
i don't know. i think you guys are insane. i absolutely LOVE every single pj album in its own right. and no, i am not saying it to be stubborn and just look like a great fan. i truly LOVE every album. and ed has composed alot of the bands greatest songs!
TEN-
brilliant, amazing impact and passion, but not as good as most of their later albums. i like when they experiment
VS-
AGGRESIVE. kicks my ass everytime. fucking amazing. the music may be better than ten, by i keep it at a tie just because of ten's massive impact.
VITALOGY-
now we're brilliant! odd, disturbing, experimental, and just overall amazing. so what if foxymop sucks. aye davanita, bugs and pry just help the album flow and add to the EXPERIMENTAL STRANGENESS. i enjoy thinking about how someone can actually come up with somehting like that. cannot deny that tremor christ, not for you, nothingman and immortality are pure brilliance.
NO CODE-
tied with vitalogy! experimental, cultural, and musically genious. so many different flavors and styles. this was pj's stepping stone into maturity. present tense, in my tree and off he goes. need i say more?
YIELD-
BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME. period. absolute brilliance put to music. this album has it all! spiritual and uniting with such an uplifting vibe. just gives you chills! ed's vocals are better then ever too. the band really crossed over into maturity. i'm a yield freak so i can go on forever. i'll stop here. in hiding is possibly the best song of all time IMO.
BINAURAL-
second favorite album! the way this thing is crafted is just genious. the production is so atmospheric and deep sounding. listening to this with headphones or on a highway at night is such an experience. sleight of hand my be the bands second best song after in hiding. songs like that just stimulate your mind; make you think; take you to another world. that whole album seems to do that. it just creates this audio world that you never want to leave!
RIOT ACT-
ok, so here's the one lots of people hate. from day one i loved this. call me crazy, but i have always wondered why it isn't loved. while it is not one of my top favorites, i love it. great production, some of ed's best lyrics, and the band was verrrrry artsy with this one! even typical rcoker-type songs like cropduster have a creative sense to them. matt adds so much to this as well. strange time signatures and interesting guitar riffs are present. avocado seems to just have a lot of power chord rockage, where RA seems to tool with technicallity more. that is the only thing i think it has over it. anyways, this one is underrated.
AVOCADO -
just a great album. again, not one of my very favorites but i still love the hell out of it. inside job is absolutely epic. there's just an overall great feel and flow to this album. i think the band is in great shape. they sounded better than ever on the tour and i grew to love the songs even more. severed hand may be their best straight foward rocker since do the evolution. great album.

One thing I would like to say, is that, I was one of them Riot Act disliker. I've grown to like it a bit more recently.
I agree with you on Yield. It's my personal favorite.
I'm just trying to observe all the releases from a casual fan/music critic's POV.
that is all.

good good, hopefully you'll grow to like it even more. like i said it is not one of my favorites but i still love it. there really isn't any pj album i don't really think is great. just me. and i understand your POV. this is a pretty cool thread anyway seeing what people think about all the albums.

why is that? what's your favorite song? i don't see what's so crazy. everybody has a certain song that just hits home for them.
I'm sorry, I'll leave you alone now. I just can't remember any PJ fan recognizing that song for its greatness. You are right, everybody does have their own song. To answer your question, mine is SOLAT. I think I was just taken back to read that. Have a nice night

glad you understand. i love SOLAT, but in the same as you see in hiding, i would never put that in my top. however, i don't judge your musical taste because of it and i still love that song. but dude where have you been!!? in hiding seems to be a HUGE fan favorite here!! :P

this dude gave no code a smaller score because of lack of album sales... who cares about sales figures.... doesnt make or break an album. Ridiculous. There are better pj albums than ten.

 dammit, i already apologized for that reference
yes, Yield and No Code are better than Ten in my opinion.
I was writing it more of an outsider's opinion, not a fanboy.
There is NO rhythm and melody to punk music what soever.
I've been reading through this topic with high interest. Giving much attention to your points throughout, considering what you were saying. But here is where I stopped, so I can respond to this. It is at this point where credibility goes all the way out the window. Now I just view you as an uninformed fan who has no clue what they are talking about. What an ignorant statement.

You have a good point though. Don't appologize.
why is it that they released "Who You Are" to radio, but promoted te album on Letterman by playing "Hail, Hail"?
For some reason they have some sort of issue with releasing a "we don't give a fuck about radio play singles" to represent their album, yet still want to rock in public. What's with that? Why not just admit they want to rock the fuck out and get the whole world involved? I don't think you lose credibility by being popular, but they certainly seem to think so.
"who you are"? "Nothing as it seems"? As singles? Seriously? Come on.

Bullshit. I know what I'm talking when it comes to punk rock music. It's junk!
I've always stand by my statement regarding this genre and ain't no band ever gonna chance that.

You can call it junk. That's fine and your opinion. I have nothing to say about that. But to say punk music has no melody or rhythm is pretty ignorant and shows in fact that you do not know what you are talking about when it comes to punk music. If you don't know what you are talking about with punk music, then no one has any reason to take you seriously about what you say about Pearl Jam.
