I can't believe more people aren't into Them Crooked Vultures. I guess I just assume that if someone listened to it, they would go crazy for it.

John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin on bass, Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age and many other things on guitar and Dave Grohl from Nirvana and Foo Fighters on drums! Alain Johannes from Eleven is involved, too. You might know him from Eleven with Jack Irons. That is one of the best CD's I have heard in a long time. But I digress...

Homme just doesn't do anything for me as a singer........

Musically the album is pretty decent, but nothing strikes me as great lyrically and I can't pull any emotion out of it.....

    new, good:
    Glasvegas
    The Young Veins
    The Big Pink

    not brand new, but good:
Animal Collective (well the last lp was good anyway)
    Kasabian (so underrated)

speaking of which ..I'm sorry but Aracade Fire is so overrated!

They are sure to be really good :!:

Too many people naming just other bands and not NEW bands. Kings of Leon signed with RCA years and years and years ago.

Yes I would agree with Glasvegas and Kasabian - the Glasvegas first (only?) album is absolutely brilliant, and Kasabian's latest is great too - one of the albums of recent years, and their best yet by a long way in my book.

Chooglin is a great rock band out of Minneapolis. They have a horn section, great riffs and a speedy drummer. I've seen them a couple times. They're on itunes.

+1 love kasabian. Saw Glasvegas last year, hope they come out with a new album shortly. Big Pink is decent also.

Gonna Add Sleigh Bells and Soft Pack to my original list.

Been checking out The Duke Spirit since reading this...definitely like their sound. I cant help but hear a cross between Heartless Bastards and Band of Skulls. If you like Duke Spirit, I think you'd like both these bands too.

Yes will check them out definitely.

The thing I most love about the Duke Spirit is the deep lyrics and 'hair raising' singing from Liela Moss, as well as the guitars which wash across the vocals like liquid machine gun fire. I know she has echoes of several memorable female vocalists - but for me at the end of the day it is the link between the sound, the lyrics, the words and the voice which really hit me on a deeper level than any other current band. Liela Moss is quite a hero of mine, in the way she covers themes of love, sex, live, death, pain, memory and survival - in a way I find both inspiring and disturbing in equal measure. The 'spine tingling' comes from the dark side along with the 'fight' - grasping hope out of the shadows. If Liela Moss were an hour of the day it would be 1.00am !

Not new but new to me - Biffy Clyro. Just can't stop listening to these guys and saw them supporting Muse last week. Awesome!

Also a thumbs up to Kasabian. Knew nothing about them until they supported Oasis last year.

I can't wait for Fistful of Mercy's album to come out. Dhani Harrison literally looks like a clone of his father. It's scary. Saw a few videos on YouTube and they are great. Any band that has George Harrison's son is bound for greatness.

I love it. I can't wait to hear the album. Who's pumped for this album?!

What's even crazier than Dhani looking like George, he kind of sounds like him when he talks.

  • I know they've already been mentioned in this thread but The Gaslight Anthem is great!

I started listening to them this summer and just got to see them live a couple of weeks ago and was blown away!!! The way the crowd reacts to them and the overall energy of the show made it one of the best I've been to.

Funny thing is they referenced Pearl Jam as one of their favorite bands and even cover State of Love and Trust once in a while.

I recommend their new album American Slang as well as The '59 Sound

    The Grand Archives.

Started by Mat Brooke (formerly of BOH)....a good listen for anyone that likes Band of Horses.
