  • Thanks for the responses!

Would have to say that KOL has admittedly been hit or miss. The three I've seen Lolla 07, Aragon Halloween night 2008, and ACL (best of the 3 with guest EdVed--) best lineup ever, were great shows.

MMJ playing Lolla 2007 played the stage before Pearl Jam. They played with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at dusk. Not sure everyone appreciated that as much as I did. It was quite the VISION if you like classical instruments.

Their Bonnaroo live disc and KOL's live at Hammersmith Apollo can be listened to over a bottle of wine or two many times over. The Suspicious Minds Cover is usually repeated.

Best new show ever. EdVed live at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago.

Seen approx 55 show and that is #1 all time. Great venue helps. Love to see PJ play a medium size venue, Aragon, next time through Chicago. So many rules at the United Center. And they enforce them.

Dead Weather rock live. Avett Brothers also better live than their studio albums.

Marcy's Playground is a good bang for the buck too.

Do you mean band that still put out new music??
    Is PJ a new(er) band?

    MMJ
    Dr Dog
    Kings of Leon
    The Mars Volta
Them Crooked Vultures...but it was prolly a one off
    White Stripes/Raconteurs
    Mastodon
  • Wolfmother!

I saw only one other post mentioning them. Loud and goood.

Another band that I think is great, but wasn't mentioned- maybe because they are no longer a band with all their substance problems- is the Darkness. Different style/genre than most of the bands mentioned in these posts and definitely not like PJ... but Loud and goood.

I have to disagree with repetitive theme of KOL being popular... heard them... seen them... lame.

    KoL
    MMJ
    Avett Bros
    Gaslight Anthem
    Arcade Fire
    Dr. Dog
    Midlake
    Monsters of Folk
    LCD Soundsystem
    Broken Bells
    Spoon

And Blitzen Trapper. Saw them last night in Eugene and they killed. Great, great live band. And yes, none of these bands are particularly new. But they're all pretty awesome. I think it's safe to say that MMJ is the best of the best, however. Jim/Yim is one helluva talent.

I love it when people try to be all dramatic. Unlistenable? Please. Just say you don't like it and move along. I would point out how for every person with your opinion there are 100 that think it's the album of the decade, but then you would probably point out something irrelevant like 42 million people bought the Eagles Greatest Hits album and that numbers mean nothing when it comes to good music and so on.

Not a band, but a great singer/songwriter out of Vancouver that everyone should hear is Dan Mangan.
