"newer" is relevant. if you have never listened to them, then they are new to you.
couldn't get into KoL, as much as everyone else o the planet is.
BoH? I only heard of them through PJ, and am totally digging them right now.
Other than classic rock/PJ era music, my taste is eclectic. Mason Jennings is totally not new, but newER than PJ, always one of my faves. Though not really "on the scene". Dead Weather, of course. I like She+Him, although a COMPLETELY different vibe. I dig some local bands on the Denver scene as well.

I like the sing song jingle all-a-day sound of She+Him too. Give Lissie a listen.
I agree but I think their first single is going to keep away a lot of new comers. They are the most energetic live bands I've ever watched live.
interesting.. I've seen cage the elephant live and I feel safe to say they are by far the WORST band I've ever seen live. Sure they had energy, but everything about them was poor.
BoH? I only heard of them through PJ, and am totally digging them right now.
I discovered Band of Horses a few years back on one of my jaunts to Seattle - I really like their first two albums (and the new one!)
There is a kind of 'spinoff' / associated band of theirs called 'Grand Archives' I think, (from memory), who are also really good - great vocal harmonies etc.
as well as Laura Marling, who I have an infinite amount of time for (english folky - connected with mumfords and others but in my mind the true genius songwriter amongst them) - I have been enjoying some of the current electro-based bands like Empire of the Sun, Ladyhawke, and La Roux in the last couple of years, who seem to be introducing some decent words and injecting some more emotion to this style of music imho.

Im pretty sure the thread is asking for bands new to the scene, just because a band has been around for 8 years doesnt mean they arent new to the music scene. Im not gonna quote anyone, but I think we all know the people are who are trying to be smart asses here, and its rude and unnecessary, especially when everyone has a different opinion about this topic.
Id say my favorite band right now that is considered new to the scene are Silversun Pickups, I dont know why someone would claim they are eight years old, I thought we usually go by when their CDs come out to judge how old a band is. I dont think anyone claimed Pearl Jam wasnt a new band when Ten came out because they were already a band for a year. Silversun Pickups just did their first ever headlining tour for their album that came out last year, Swoon, and I caught them in Chicago in July, and my god, what a show! If you havent seen this band live, its worth it. The lead singer has a very different voice, but grows on you quickly.

If you're referring to me, then you missed the point of my post. If not then carry on, as I agree with you.
I can't believe more people aren't into Them Crooked Vultures. I guess I just assume that if someone listened to it, they would go crazy for it.
John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin on bass, Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age and many other things on guitar and Dave Grohl from Nirvana and Foo Fighters on drums! Alain Johannes from Eleven is involved, too. You might know him from Eleven with Jack Irons. That is one of the best CD's I have heard in a long time. But I digress...

Them Crooked Vultures are amazing but they are a sideproject. 3 old school talented artists.
There really hasn't been any amazing/mind blowing new bands/artists the past say 5 year's.
Keep an ear out for the Duke Spirit's next album. I have a feeling it will be stellar. I've been following them for a while since I heard John Peel play their debut ep on BBC6 music a few years ago now, and I think they are just getting better and better. Their last album 'Neptune' is easily one of my top albums of the last ten years. They've got sizzling guitars, a drop dead gorgeous lead singer Liela Moss who fronts the band in a way I've not seen since the Riot Grrrlls; amazing deep lyrics, and I love the way she 'phrases' her singing which keeps on developing....
Out of all the 'less known' British bands that I like, I think the Duke Spirit are most likely to strike a chord with the hardcore Pearl Jam fan, on a number of levels. The only possible criticism of Neptune is that some of the songs can sound a bit similar - but actually over time and many listens I find this less and less - these days there is hardly an original riff left out there, and you find many good bands going for a certain 'aesthetic' style, often wearing their influences on their sleeve.' In Rainbows' I think is a good example of how going for a certain 'sound' throughout the album really works. I could listen to Neptune all day - it's got 500volt crackle to it!!
Duke Spirit, 2011 - you heard it hear first!!
[lol, i see from the archive eeriepadave & mfc2006 already know of the duke spirit!!]

Phoenix came out 1999. The first time I heard of them was on the Lost in Translation Soundtrack. One of my favorite soundtracks of all time.
