I gotta say that Come Back has become a completely new song to me after this show.

I always thought the lyrics were really beautyful and it was always a favorite of mine from the avocado. Saw it live in Berlin 06 as well when it was dedicated to J. Ramone which was really cool, but not nearly as emotional as this years incredible version.

I don't think I'll ever listen to it again without thinking back to this night.

LOL yeah blame TREMORS for that boring and badly written review!!!

Don't put yourself down degi. Blame yourself for an atmospheric, fun moving and exciting review which is a lifeline for people like me who weren't there.

I listened to come back from the audience recording a couple of nights ago. Very very emotional, like a completely different song from that on record. Something like a new one-off black. I will never see black as overrated - for me it is one of the greatest songs ever written and sung, and i have been listening to it evolve for 18 years and it still brings tears to my eyes. A static subtly moving object on the horizon. If I get more green vinyl atw - (fingers crossed, you are first on the list degi!!). Don't sell yourself short again. I mean it!! thx lots
ohhhh duuude, i SWEAR, come back that night, i can still only write about it, tried to tell my mum about it a couple days ago... impossible! she doesnt know anything about PJ, so i had to start telling her about roskilde, then come back, showed her the video, eddies voice <3 and then alive... (also had to tell her the alive story from storytellers) she didnt get it...^^
and about black, like i said before, the atmosphere that night was A M A Z I N G (you said you listened to the boot so you know what i am talking about) but they play so many great songs and the audience reacts very well to small town etc. so WHY BLACK?
so you are interested in reading a review for dublin and nijmegen as well? i could write one!
keeping my fingers crossed for the atw vinyl too ;)

like i said in my review, i really wanted to hear come back and it was SO emotional, its still hard for me to talk about it! my favourite song, (shares #1 with daughter) and i couldnt sing along... eddies voice on that one... it fit so perfectly!!!!

Me too, when I first heard it on Avacodo I remember hearing where the words were aiming maybe, it just didn't take me there. The Berlin recording it definitely took me there - one of Ed's best ever vocal performances I think. So real, stripped and raw. Also better days is a fantastic vocal performance - almost gave me vertigo when I first listened - like being out at sea yet joyously. Hard to describe, like the hopeful flipside to the entire riot act record!!

Degi, I had a moment like that with my folks back in 1998 - I was trying to describe to my dad what PJ / Yield meant to me, and I started reciting the words to Faithful to him, more like a poem, and just burst into tears halfway thru! (he didn't); it's a big gulf. Like I said to you - just show them the lyrics to off he goes, and if they don't get it with that at some point in their lives, I'm not sure they ever will..... Sigh

hey, why are you even asking about tremors? DEGI might join, who cares about the others? ;)

heheheee there are just too many good songs and i'm only 19, so i know PJ since like 2 years (even less to be honest) and i still discover the greatness of that band, so i dont have that special relation to ten and the "early days", being born in 1990 ;)
  • danleridanleri Posts: 497
ah, the newbies! So many at PJ shows and they weren't even born or just about born in the early 90's...

And I also see a lot of people here passing on the knowledge to their young kids...

It's all good, spread the love and perpetuate it to the new generations! More PJ fans=more love!

By the way, in case you're wondering, I'm only 33 but I was "musically" aware from the mid-80's on... although I must confess I really got into PJ in the second half of the 90's.

:D This is brilliant! I wish it were as easy as this in real life.

'Would you like to join my hareem?'
'Sure, thanks for the invitation, who else is in it??'

So far my female hareem (in no particular order) is claireack, gecko, degi, heartshapedbox, catef (tho I don't think she knows she has signed up to this yet!) and maybe snowfunk now.

My male friends are increasing too, tho us guys, you know we just slap each other on the back in passing, and if things become too effete we shout 'arm-wrestle??'

more german? I feel a song coming on..... one I wrote as a youngster.....

'stille nacht, heilige nacht'..... 'dum dum dum, der dum dum' (I forget the rest)

Actually, Eddie Vedder does look quite like me these days (see 'Pics where eddie / tremors looks hot' thread).

I've had more than my fair share of gorgeous women throwing themselves at me in my life- but like buses, they never seem to come when you really need one!

It's easy to love someone when they are up, but can you do it when they are down??

    morning friends

    clashman, thanks, honey :-)
btw: where's wissel? didn't show up anymore since he knows who i am???!!?

degi, how did you get to know pj? through friends? curious, because when i started, they were still on MTV (don't know how often i saw the awards show where they got 3 for jeremy). so what was your door-opener?
It's easy to love someone when they are up, but can you do it when they are down??
doesn't that show the difference between real love and just being into someone?
and i think you just really get to know people, when there is trouble, stress or something? just philosophing (good english??)
and coming back to the coherence you wrote it: the difficult thing is that those things like love usually never happen, when you are waiting, or searching or needing. they rather happen when everything already is fine.

danleri, so what exactly were you aware of in mid 80s? just curious as i am kind of ashamed of what i heard those days...
    :D

Fine words, will read more fully later when I have time.

I think we might be in danger of being chucked out of this 'fanviews' thread. How about a 'Come here to flirt with the hot german girls' thread'?!!

    Just a suggestion!!

Cool, I think I was trying to refer to snowfunk - but you can join my hareem too if you like clashman! :) Today seems to be the day when I am misunderstood and cause anger (elsewhere), so I hope it doesn't happen here. It's so easy to be misunderstood online! Help

But yes, I think this fanviews is becoming a social thang - How bout 'Berlin Crew 2010' thread? (I wasn't there mind, so I may have to gatecrash.

    been there!
great concert, great setlist, very emotional!..
read the comments: agree with your emotions and enough was said.
but there are some concerns that I can not keep myself to add here.
    1) before taking the tenclub tickets, we sat on the grass with friends, felt the moment, got our drinks. and after two hours saw some friends and they said that there was a list of numbers and names! they were arranging the order for people to enter to the hall. but I did not get that from last confirmation mail! anyway. fair enough! we started to wait. at 10CAREA people said that, "ok. look at my number, we need to get fronts!" what was that? who arranged that shit? why we did not get any info on that in our 10C mails? so unfair!.. but need to add that, we saw some friend those related with that numbering sruff, and then saw them in the front row. so what if we get an alternative numbering?.. also we asked this to staff, and got that reply: " we do not give a shit to that numbering!"
2)also when waiting in the tenclub area, two women were taken in earlier than everyone! what the fuck was that? they got first row in front of ed! I saw them in earlier concerts. but who lets them to there? VIP?.. fuck 'em:) in the concert ed asked: "are you happy?" even it was so tight(!) in the front, we said "yes", there are always dicks but pearl jam fixes those stuffs. but those "ladies" said "eddieeee, we are not safe etc.?":p
so in conclusion, for example in contrast to holland (nice people, children in the front, ed's felt very well about them:) - you can not put them to berlin.) in berlin, long-better setlist, but hated those unfair numbering! in the next concerts, will not give them a shit!!!
BTW: one day before the show got pictures w/ed, mike:)) thanx ed for talking to me, giving me the guitar pick, holding my hand... thank to mike for being so polite, and speaking about the lyrics of "inside job."

What was your expectation? Get in to the arena before people who had been camping out all night? That's what the numbering system attempts to do, tries to give some order to people who waited to get in longer than others. It's not perfect, and it's a self-governing thing. But it happens at every general admission Pearl Jam show and usually works out pretty well.

    Returned last night from Germany.

Wuhlheide = great venue. Thanks 10 Club for getting the pre show set up correct.
So many, many fine fans. Stone's side (sub group of fans) on the rail.
    Much dancing.

Others have mentioned the many memorable moments in the show.
Have to admit that I still really like Evolution even after hearing it so many times.
Ed ducks a plastic bottle but it hits him on the shoulder. He looks angry then realizes what the heck and makes the hand signs that show he doesn't care about it. The he rips into Evolution like I never heard it before. Emotion into energy. The band always gives 100%. WOW!

The crowd owned Black. Our participation affected the band.

Berlin was my 60th show in 60 years. Keep on rockin' in the free world.
    Hold On
