  • AMAZING show

I cried so much for Light Years, Come Back and The End as I lost my Dad last year, but damn, it was just what I needed.

Thank you to the band for putting on such a great tribute to those lost at Roskilde and for putting on what was generally, an incredible show. It'll never be forgotten :)
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

Hey guys... I totally agree with everything mentioned above. This was my 3rd show (after Prague 2006 and Chorzow 2007) and it was far the best show I have ever been to - together with Bruce Springsteen in Rome last year... ;)

Its a small world we´re living in... I checked out your photos and I´m right there in the sea of people :D

Thank to everyone who shared that magnificent night yesterday - it truly was magical and inspiring, a venue full of joy, togetherness, raw emotions and shared love for music. I feel privileged just for having been there...

The Berlin concert last year was my first PJ live concert, which was just plain fantastic, and thus I had high expectations going yesterday, not quite believing I was seeing my all time favorite band for the second time.

I didn't expect though to be so blown away, drawn into the music, getting lost in the emotionality of Eddies voice (its simply hypnotizing...) and the tightness of the bands performance. The whole second encore was my favorite of the night- the whole venue chanting after/during Alive and lights turned on all over the crowd as we all paid tribute to lost friends who left this world doing what they and we all love ...

After last years concert I was so happy and thrilled having finally seen PJ live after all these years, now on the other hand I felt an additional emptiness- not believing it was over so soon, and lusting for another chance to see them again! I guess I'm hooked for life... ;)

back in Prague. currently very tired. all those emotions from last 48 hours are just too much one body and mind can handle. Reading all of your reviews just bringing tears back. so fragile. the energy. been there with bunch of 14 friends where for more than half of them it was their first pj live experience... ... they all got the disease now. they all caught the message... (despite it wasnt really an easy setlist for virgins!) you can see it in their eyes, the strange smile on their faces all the way back home on the train. the atmosphere among us. just a big party. continuation of what we witnessed that night.

    aaawww...

Just remembered Ed introducing Mike with "you all know him, but I know him better..." Made me laugh. Watching Mike sky pointing and running in circles with Jeff was fantastic. Was the closest I'd been to the band after having nose bleeds the last 2 indoor gigs (96 and last year at o2) and then Hyde Park last month, was stood a couple of seats up on Mike's side surrounded by wonderful Ten Club people from all over who had the perfect energy flowing amongst them. Watching all the interplay, seeing all the little details on stage, Mike throwing out a shower of plectrums (just how quickly they switch gear between songs was exciting) felt like it was the first real PJ gig I'd been too. Man, I'm still tripping off it. Sound check waiting at the gate was perfect too. My girlfriend totally gets it now too!

This was a special show. It got very emotional at the end as others have mentioned. It's also the first show I can remember where there didn't seem to be any sound problems at all. Wuhlheide is a fantastic place for a concert.

Highlights for me were the crowd participation at the end of Black, EV so emotional that he totally messed up nearly all of the lyrics to Come Back, In Hiding, and the best version of Unthought Known I've ever heard (might end up as a video, similar to the latest Amongst The Waves video). EV's vocals on Kick Out The Jams were great too. Here's a video I took of it from the front row:

There is a massive amount of love on this thread for comeback

I dont know if its just becuase of the occasion, people genuinely love the song, or its become quite rare.

I fucking love it to bits and would dearly love to see it become more of a regular.....im god knows how many shows in now and have still managed to miss it every time

My first ever Pearl Jam concert was at Roskilde in the mosh pit infront of the main stage. 10 years and 11 PJ concerts later and wiser I had found my way to Berlin and Wuhlheide. And what a night! - First of all, a Berlin that bathed in sun and 30 degrees and happy people everywhere. Very glad it was not in-door, but rather the most beautiful venue I have been to (ties with Arena in Verona) in the green outskirts of Berlin.

After numerous ice-cold beers in the heat and just happily seeing the venue fill up from the side (fabolous view) I almost missed the start of the gig standing 30 minutes in a line for some more "water"... But luckily I just reached my seat before they slowly started with Long Road. Guess many waited for LBC.

Long Road gave a great start to the concert. Just as for the Copenhagen show in 2007 they decided to open with this song. A great choice imo. The next songs blew everybody away - Got Some, Why Go and Given To Fly. Sing-alongs where literally everyone inside Wuhlheide screamed their lungs of. So did I. GTF - It must have been the most beautiful version I have ever heard and instead of "smoke" Eddie sang "have a joint in a tree" pointing up to the woods which surrounds this beautiful venue. Guess it's been sung before :)

A standard Small Town which I have heard at probably all the 12 shows I've been to was decent enough and then a fanfuckingtastic triology: Push me, Pull me into Immortality into In Hiding. Ever since I was 17 and joined the old PJ-forum as FuckOffMTV I have wished for Push Me, Pull Me in concert and always when people would ask “your favourite setlist”-threads I had always PMPM in there. So a GREAT highlight for me. It has a slightly different mood live which I love, cause it's first of all really hard to copy the studio-version live where Eddie is kind of talk-singing, if you know what I mean. Great songs, the Immortality-solo was so good I almost cried and In Hiding being the favourite song of my brother didn't make these early songs any bad for us...

Even Flow sat the whole crowd even more on fire. If not everyone were singing, now also the security guards were moving their feet. Together with Why Go and Given To Fly it was a singalong which probably woke up all the West-Berliners as well (Wuhlheide is East). Johnny Guitar coming next is Top3 for me from the Backspacer album, so PJ thanks, GREAT choice. Other than that, I got to hear Gonna See My Friend which for some reason I never really dug, but LIVE it was AMAZING. Hate to use the word AMAZING, but it was. A true song for the mosh-pitters, and when they played it live it sounded so Who-ish. Can't really put words to it. It was Backspacer-night where the band pulled up 7 Backspacers from the hat. Being a huge No Code and Binaural fan I was slightly disappointed to not hear any from these two, but what the fuck, they can’t play 50 songs. If I do a spreadsheet I am sure Binaural and No Code has been well-represented the past ten years I have seen them.

Being together with my two brothers ten years after the same bros saw PJ at Roskilde was very special and emotional – we all had a small tear during some of the songs. Even the harder ones. The energy was just so special in Wuhlheide. All the people there from the whole world, the venue, the weather, the date. Everything. My best Pearl Jam show so far.

Ever since I was crushed and injured at Roskilde I have never liked hearing Corduroy since it was their opening song at Roskilde and what has been glued to my mind was the combination of the cold Danish weather that evening combined with being squeezed and just hearing the sounds of Corduroy without enjoying it… or actually seeing the stage, it has stick, however when they played it in Berlin last nite, being safe on the side of the venue it was sort of relieving and very OK. I think I needed to hear it 10 years later. After Corduroy came Light Years which can only be described as a song of the universe. Beautiful, big and just light years from what other bands can write and perform. After WWS and the solid Gonna See My Friend they played a very fitting song as the sun was setting: Low Light – one of my favourite Ament tunes, and man can they play it live. Beautiful!

It was time for Eddie to scream a little and Comatose was a great choice for that. His vocals were on FIRE in Berlin, and DTE proved it further. Top energy, god-given voice, extremely positive crowd throughout, and a long-haired and rocking Gossard playing those soloes with passion and numerous crowd-cheers. What an end to their main set.

Eddie Vedder walked out alone with Boom to perform The End, which vocally was the best performance during the whole concert. What a song, and yes as Eddie said it is the most depressing song ever written. Just Breathe followed up with the whole band playing, and unlike the US gigs there were no strings, but Boom managed to layer the organs nicely to that song.

An then Eddie said: “This next song is our love and admire for…. Uhm”. I screamed out to Wuhlheide as I felt confident they would play it: “SPIN THE BLACK CIRCLE”, and people looked strangely at me, who the fuck is that guy, and Eddie continued: “Uhm our love for the XX’inches making a circle with his hands (Can’t remember the exact words). This is Spin The Black Circle”. Now people smiled at me. Public Image was GREAT. I actually mistook it for being a new PJ song. It sounded very PJ’ish. Cool cover and cool to be among the first one to hear it. The Fixer and Kick Out the Jams were great closers to the little short second set. The sky was still light blue, and it felt wrong to start their last set so early as the atmosphere would’ve been a little more special if it was dead-black and the only lights in East-Berlin were the ones that came from the stage and the crowd.

The last set was heart-wrecking, sad and beautiful at the same time. The Eddie speech and the whole last set is something you gotta hear/see yourself, and I guess his speech kind of continues in Come Back, a very emotional version that is where he has a hard time singing it.

Thanks Pearl Jam for being the best live band ever to exist in the Universe, and I hope I will see you in the next couple of Light Years.

Arrived back home yesterday and been in bed since then... wrecked after Dublin, Belfast and Berlin.

I read all the previous posts before writing this. Great posts, great people, great day.

Someone said it was very hard to top Berlin '09 but only Pearl Jam could and they did. Totally different setlist yes, and totally different emotions.

It was one of the most beautiful gig days of my life. 24 hours in a german forest with some crazy people all together to see Pearl Jam and to celebrate the special day.

My highlight: Love Boat Captain at soundcheck and all of us outside screaming "LOVE".

It was such a great show...I got a few from my Wishlist: Gonna see my friend, Johnny Guitar, Spin the black circle, Push me pull me...wow...yeah :)

In 2006/2007 I've been in a "Black"-mood almost all the time so the versions from that very days touched me so deeply...nower days I recovered from that pain and it's also hard to find a another Black version that would "kill" me again like the first really extended ones with Eddie's heart-breaking tags (one of my fav's - if not THE fav - is the one from Berlin 2006)...that has also something to do with the amount of boots I've listened too I guess

The version from Wednesday worked itself into my TOP 5 of all "Black"-versions ... sooo touching...Ed's tag...when they started I thought "Wow, THAT SLOW...it will evolve to something not imagineable"...and it did! :)

The lighter pic is really touching for me because I was a little disappointed because of the daylight and from where I stood I could not really see how many people put out their lighters, so THANK YOU to everyone :)

So much more to say...but so much to say just in my heart speaking for itself...I am very grateful and I am really looking forward seeing you all next summer ;)

Ten years ago I attended the Roskilde Festival in Denmark. It was the first really big thing I did in my life and I was both exited and a little scared. The main reason my friend and I went to the festival was Pearl Jam.

I'm not gonna go deep into details but there was a lot of people and when PJ started to play the preassure in the audience started to rise. It felt like it didn't matter cause the ecstasy from finally seeing the band but after awhile I got a slight feeling of panic cause I couldn't move anywhere. Finally there were a wave of people pushing their way out, my friend grabbed me, followed the wave, and got us out from the worst preassure.

We continued watching the show further back and it was so great. It felt like the best moment of my life at that single moment. About 20 minutes later it was over. PJ had played for 45 minutes when the security stopped the show. I think it took about another 45 minutes before the crowd got the announcement that the band couldn't be allowed to continue. At that moment no one knew what had happened except that a couple of people got hurted.

So we went back to our tent, obviously disappointed, and went to sleep. It wasn't until the morning after we learned of what had happened. Alot of people went home, we stayed, and watched more artists that we wanted to see. But there was this numb feeling inside and all over the festival.

The terrible accident at that concert has really made an impact on me and my view on what behaviour you should have when attending a concert. I'm always concerned when attending concerts and try to be as helping as possible. Of course you should be able to let go and lose yourself in the music but not at the cost of others.

According to my veiw I think the Wuhlheide crowd behaved really really good. There are always a bunch of people that are too drunk or high, but so many that they were disturbing.

    With that said...

I waited ten years to see Pearl Jam again and I thought that the show was great. As musician you always here missed notes but that didn't bother as much as it can do cause there wern't many of them. I didn't feel the same ecstasy as the first time but I'm ten years older and calmer.

The venue was perfect, the stage had the perfect size and you could see band. Even my girlfriend at 162 cm had no problems seeing the band and we were only 3-4 meters from the front. The sound was great. The setlist was good although I missed a couple of songs. The weather was great. The 10C-area was nice and cool.

But the best thing was the last encore. The emotions, both the happy ones and the sad ones, the crowds singing at the end of "Black". "Come Back", "Alive", and a very emotionfilled "Yellow Ledbetter".

But the most important thing for me is that I feel like I've gotten some kind of closure. It didn't realize that it was exactly ten years on the day until we were at the venue. It kinda feels like some weight has been lifted. Not that the Roskilde-incident has destroyed my life or anything but I sure think about it fairly often.

So thank you everyone who where there and made it into what it was, pure magic.

    /Niklas Andersson

P.S. I'm not looking for sympathy or anything I just thought that someone could get something out of this. And one last thing, the person who threw that bottle in the head of Ed deserves a bitch-slap. But I must say that Eddie's reaction and that they played "Do The Evolution" right after suited the situation perfectly...

    Hello there,

I arrived with my buddies from London (Hard Rock Calling, of course... 8-) ) on monday morning and that's the moment I get sick. Like shit. Or worse.

I never had more fever than that day in my life. Oh sorry, I'm wrong, I was more sick on tuesday...

It was like a nightmare. Taking pills and pills to recover and being ready for the show. Saw nothing from Berlin but with a little luck i could move myself to The Wuhlheide on wednesday night.

First I'd like to thank the 10-club for the organisation. It was very good. Cheers!

Then, about the show, well, it was a PJ show, wasn't it? ;) It's crazy because I always know that I'm gonna have a good a time (or better) at a PJ show. Guaranteed.

Big set list, sounded very nice to me, original. I was like a kid when they played "In Hidin'" (first time live...).

People were great, the crowd was awesome. Lot of pure emotions (Ed crying on stage for example).

Some regrets? well, just little things:

    - Ben didn't come back on stage with PJ (I was ready for another Red Mosquito after London..)
    - I couldn't catch the stupid jerk who threw something to Eddie during the show and touched him
    - I couldn't catch the bastards who screamed during the 1 minute of silence (come on, 1 stupid minute, is that too much?)

I was disappointed with the two last things because i thought that pj fans had common ideas but i realised that no. Being silent for just a fuckin minute was just being respectul of something important for the band and that guys didn't respect it. It made me sad. Same for the throw. Can't understand those attitudes.

Otherwise, believe me, even sick you can follow a pj show and enjoy 100%... :D

I didn't want to post my thoughts last night when I get home. I was tired and couldn't process it all properly.

Berlin was special, to say the least. I was pretty sure that they'd open with Release but Long Road was still gorgeous. Fourth time hearing it but it was still stellar. Ed showed us straight away that he was in fine voice.

I absolutely LOVE Given To Fly early on in the sets. It was 4th this time and it just whipped everybody into a frenzy. I swear this song gets better every year.

Stand-outs during the main set for me were Push Me Pull Me, a breathtaking Immortality, In Hiding, Johnny Guitar, Light Years, Evolution. Push Me Pull Me is just wild in a live setting. It's all over the place but in a really good way and just makes me dance and shimmy.

What is there to say about the 2nd encore that hasn't already been said? Seeing Ed break down was really sad, but Stone coming over to console him was very sweet. A tragedy like Roskilde, although an extremely terrible thing to have to deal with, clearly made the band closer. It really showed in Berlin. Seeing all the lighters come out while Ed was talking was just magical, and the moment of silence was almost perfect save for a couple of idiots who wouldn't shut up.

The venue - tied with Verona as the most beautiful concert venue I've ever been to. The walk from the train station through the forest was lovely, and then after buying t-shirts and drinks just looking down from the top of the venue took my breath away. We found a great spot on the right hand side, kinda near the top but could say the stage perfectly. We scared a few people away who were behind us because we were singing and dancing so much to every song. Having such a great view of the crowd really made some moments extra special, such as the ending of Black, the Roskilde speech, Alive, Given TO Fly, DTE.

I don't know where this ranks compared to the other shows I've seen, but its right up there near tehe top.

Amazing Amazing Amazing. Loved every moment.
Went to wuhlheide around midnight, slept in the ground with only a towel as a mattress... Then waited all day the next day to get to the front row. And I did. Mikes side - which is AWESOME as always ;)

There's just no words to describe that evening.. it was so great. A great day/night with some really great friends and the band I love. Loved it.. loved it so much. <3:)

Then, yesterday a bunch of us met Jeff and Mike.. HELL YEAH!! I'm so happy now. They were so nice and cool to us crazy fans. Got lots of photos, and autographs.. gonna post pics later, when I get home. Thank You Jeff and Mike, I love you guys! :D

Love love love... I guess those are the best words to describe my feelings about the show.

And now.. well - I was supposed to go home today, I even have a non-refundable plane ticket.. but I'm crazy.. and I bought a train ticket to Paris today and a ticket to the festival in Arras. SO CRAZY!. :D Can't wait to meet some of my friends again.
Won't let the light escape from me.
Won't let the darkness swallow me.

The Berlin boots from 2000, 2006 & 2009 are among my favourites so my expectations were pretty high for this gig anyway. The UK/Irish shows were going to be my only ones a few months back then the opportunity to go to this show got harder to ignore given the significance of the date. I really wanted to be a part of this historic PJ moment and I'm so glad I was there screaming my lungs out to every word with so many fine people. After a bad start when I couldn't find the 10c member who had the spare I needed (hello SuperStickman :) ) I trudged away from the venue with (Paul) Pke who had already picked up his tickets dejected in search of a ticket with all hope fading fast. When we found a guy with a couple of tickets I handed over the $100 I intended to pay for my original with but it was a printed e-ticket he handed over and relunctantly I accepted it and went to the gate. I'd said goodbye to Paul when he left for the 10c queue and didn't expect to see him again that night. How fortunes change! I went in after meeting Paul's kids in the queue and we found him sitting in his seat on Mike's side and he wasn't expecting to see me either. Great to see Ed and Ben doing Under Pressure again and Ben was great again but tonight was always only going to be about the date and PJ. Long Road was my first ever PJ song only 8 days before but the emotions were much higher this time. The opening period was great but the band were just settling in at this point. Once we got to Push Me Pull Me it all started to feel really special and Immortality and In Hiding just cemented that. I loved Light Years and the only down side from my 4 shows is the lack of more Binaural/Riot Act songs but that's not a real complaint. ;) The main set was really great all the way through and I can't not give a mention to Low Light and Mike dominating all the way through Even Flow and Corduroy. Went down near the front for an hour maybe but the view from the side was better to me. The encores were individually very different and the first was very joyous with Spin The Black Circle and the bonus of the REM guys coming out. The night was always going to get emotional and it truly did during The End, Just Breathe, Black, Ed's speech, Comeback and the climax of Alive and Yellow Ledbetter. Emotionally this is the greatest show I've ever seen and it was so good that I can't decide on this or Belfast for the best setlist but as a show I might never see better than this. Went over for a chat with Dimitris since it would be the last time I'd see him until the 2011 Euro tour 8-) and a little while later the Freebird shirt left my possession to almost reach the stage (nice attempt by young Gary who crowd surfed his way forward with it) but tonight wasn't about Freebird, it was about remembering the 9 and what a way to celebrate their sadly very short lives. RIP guys..

Finally congratulations again to Sian & Dave and shame on the a**hole who tarnished the setlist thread with a very sick and distasteful comment, no you didn't have to press submit and you should just switch your computer off if that's your idea of humour.. :(

ROLL ON THE NEXT WUHLHEIDE GIG, PJ YOU BELONG THERE AND SO DO WE..........

I wanted to open a thread about that topic but now that I see this...well, don't get me wrong, I don't wanna put too much bad energy into this thread...but seriously, crowd surfing is dangerous for the folks standing...I am not participating in it...I don't carry anyone...I take a step back...it's their own risk...they make my very angry...people who can not step back are enforced to carry folks or get a shoe or a hand in the face...it's ridiculous IMO...crowd surfing should be prohibited...once someone surfed security should put them out. my view, my opinion. sorry, but this had to be said...and I tried not to insult anybody...I could've written it differently...very angry, as I said....END OF SPEECH.
