Count me in for sure - my tattoo design even includes this lyric! Even Flow got me hooked on PJ way back then. Alive was great but it was Even Flow that really did it for me (and still does).

Here is what I don't like about Even Flow. When you tell the casual person you're a PJ fan, the first thing they associate the band with is Even Flow or Alive because both are played on classic rock stations and what not. Or it's what they associate with the crazy popularity years of 91 - 93. At the end of the day, those two songs only scratch the surface of PJs amazing catalog.

I'd much rather have the band associated with Present Tense or Tremor Christ when the casual person hears the words Pearl Jam. But I'm a deeper tracks kind of guy and do whatever I can to remove myself from anything mainstream.

I could really go for never hearing any PJ song played on the radio ever again. That goes for Even Flow, Alive, Daughter, Elderly Woman and Better Man. They're all piss break songs for me although I try my hardest not to miss any songs. Only had to once and it was at Alpine last year during Elderly Woman. Call me a hypocrit, but for some reason I never get sick of Jeremy.

For every casual fan who wastes a ticket to go see PJ perform their "hits" rather than deeper tracks just makes me sick.

    I am SUPER cool though.

Who gives a fuck what anyone else thinks or associates PJ with? These are the songs that put them where they are and have helped to keep them there. When you go to see PJ you get what you get and if you don't like hearing the hits then you've maybe gone too many times? Plenty folk will be seeing the band for their first time at every show and they will be guaranteed some of the hits but it's not like the setlists are identical every show. The band obviously still enjoy playing Even Flow and it's a showpiece for Mike and Matt. Long may it continue...........

Hahaha, I couldn't wait to read what veddertown had to say in reply to my post. I knew he'd lose it...I love it.

I give you respect for the thread you started in June of 2010 still going strong. I'm sure you're a great dude, but please don't be that guy who bashes others just because they have differing opinions. In America that's what we call a Republican.

Let's all just get along man, I just shared my opinion. Bottom line is I love EVERY PJ song, I just pointed out what I didn't like about Even Flow.

In the spirit of your thread, here is what I like about it. Obviously Mikes solo and also the energy they still give off when they play it live 20 years since its release.

 Am I that predictable!
I wouldn't even dream of doing anything other than respecting honest opinions. I do fucking hate comments about the band from people who only know a couple of songs from 20 years ago though. Like, Are they still going? Are they back together? Altogether now.....

I know! That's the worst. I was wearing my PJ20 Buck shirt from Alpine Valley at CVS the other night and the clerk was like "Pearl Jam? They're still around?". All I could do is say yep, 20 years strong.

The thing I like most about time is that it's not real. It's all in the head. Sure, it's a useful trick to use if you want to meet someone at a specific place in the universe and have tea or coffee- but that's all it is- a trick. There is no such thing as the past. It exists only in the memory. There is no such thing as the future. It exists only in our imagination. If our watches were truly accurate, the only thing they would ever say is "Now". That's what time it is. It's "Now". - Damien Echols

I hadn't thought that far ahead? Maybe there should be a t-shirt for the Even Flow faithful. I'd love to get my hands on an Even Flow Psychos shirt! I have a design in mind.... ;)

  • +1 here too. it's always been one of my favorite songs, especially live although the studio versions absolutely rock wicked hard. it's also the song that got me into the band from the first time i ever heard it on my old cassette of ten. i say play it as loud as you can because the louder you play it the better it sounds. i suppose the more people that take piss breaks, the more room i have to rock out when it's played, but really nobody should be leaving to piss during this song. if i can recall from an article i read, maybe the rolling stone with avocado? mike saying something to the effect that its like his favorite song to play live. wonder if it still is. people should stop talking trash about even flow and appreciate it because it holds some of mike's sickest solos ever. one of my personal top favorites of this song is albany, ny from the 2003 tour. maybe i'm partial because i was there, but it is soooo f-ing tight. mike just ripe it up. this song totally makes me want to pound a beer! cheers to even flow!

One my favorite lines of Eddie, describing Mike McCready after Even Flow, Chicago 2000-08-24...

"He has to play that song or else he'll fucking kill somebody! And I have a nominee for, uh...Mike, next time you don't play that song, this guy right here. This guy...he's wearing a shirt that says, 'No Even Flow'. I suggest you kill him first. I know you'd take him by yourself, but if you need help, I'm, I'm...You know, the thing is, sir, we take requests, not orders. You should know better than that."
