I feel really bad for Tommy. He’s a classy guy and deserves to win.
    I was pulling for him.

Oh my god that was an amazing 5 minutes

That was just incredible.  Sucks for Tommy but the dude just can't get it done for some reason.  Pretty sick for Keegan to win this one again.  And yeah he's definitely gotta be on the Ryder Cup team at this point.

He has shown that he plays well in the clutch. And he’s still driving the ball well for his age. If he is the top qualifier then I guess he has to do it. But is he still captain? Can he be both?

Yeah there have been playing captains before.  Tiger did it in the Presidents Cup in 2019.  It would be detrimental to the team if he didn't pick himself.  After the top 6 for the USA, the depth is not great.

I had my own Fleetwood moment this weekend.  My personal low is 75.  I was really hitting the ball well this weekend, everything seemed to be working.  Head to 18 at 3 over, -1 on on the back.  On 18, drive it in the sand in a really tough bunker in the middle of the fairway.  Hit a 110 yard wedge to a peninsula green, leaving it only 15 feet.  I think I have it made and now thinking about a birdie.  But there's a slope to the water behind the hold, so need to be careful.

So what do I do?  Of course I three putt.  Left the first putt six feet away, horrible.  I hadn't left a putt short all day, putting with confidence.  So instead of shooting at worst a 75, maybe a 74, I end up at 76.  Now it's too fucking hot out to go redeem myself for a while.

    “The Open” is my favorite.

did anyone else read the Athletic article on how different golf “culture” is in Ireland/Scotland as compared to the US? very interesting…over there, any Joe (or Liam) can actually play any of the courses that have been used for the Open. It’s not a country club game; it’s a working man’s game. there ARE clubs but they’re affordable and they let you in, not based on your wallet but on your love for the game.

It is awesome how the memberships are affordable over there, and they are excited to share the courses with visitors.  Now, the rates in Ireland for the top courses are getting huge.  If you want to play the top 10 in Ireland you are looking at $300 - $475 a round, but compared to what US courses would charge it is still relatively affordable.

What would be a £80 round here on England and a normal ish course is €30 . I still think Ireland is the most affordable for the quality.
Golf is way too expensive here and in the USA with no reason for it to be.

Definitely if getting away from the big name courses you can get great deals.  Got back from an Ireland golf trip a couple weeks ago. 4th year in a row.  Love it over there.  If go back gonna stick to the Northwest where there is still value and great quality.  Plus easier tee times.

FFWDing through. Nice UK commentators replaced with the usual NBC dreck at the six hour mark

Oh god not Harman again.  He is the absolute worst golfer to watch with his twitching before every shot.  And it would put him on the Ryder Cup team if he won....not great!

He is solid on these courses though.
He is very annoying to watch.

Tomorrow the wind is down so scoring will be low. Sunday will have 20 people in contention. Should be a great open

This is an absolutely amazing weekend. Two career grand slams in one year is pretty wild

As someone who has not liked Scottie’s bible thumping…this is amazing.

we are clearly seeing the best since tiger…and this dude is out here with work life balance quotes. Imagine being smoked by a guy who’s like “I don’t even really care about this”?

Those two par putts were unbelievable on the front nine.  Could have provided some with hope and a little doubt in Scottie's head if he missed them.   Without weather conditions though, links golf is easy for the pros, and with Scottie's ability there was no doubt of the outcome.

I loved Padraig Harrington's response to Scottie's quote about not knowing why it means anything to win.  Padraig clearly took offense and said that he is still celebrating his US Open win a few weeks later, and can still be a good husband and dad while enjoying golf.   I saw Padraig playing a few holes at Portmarnock when I was playing it a few weeks ago as he was playing the third nine that runs along a few holes of the main 18.  He chipped in and was yelling and had his arms up with a big smile on his face.  And this was just in a nine hole practice nine.  Scottie didn't smile after the win I don't think until he saw his kid.  He's more stone cold than Tiger was.
