    Thank you for clarifying.

Edit: So they don't check your ID though like I said.  I'm trying to see how, if possible, voter fraud can be achieved.  It baffles me.
It exists, but on a minimal scale. Hailfax posted a link above.... it's few and far between.

The boogey man of voter fraud however has been a conservative talking point for decades now.... and it's complete bullshit.

"Sensationalist claims have circulated this election season about the extent of voter fraud, with some politicians going so far as to tell voters to fear that this November’s election will be “rigged.” Because electoral integrity is one of the elements necessary to making America the greatest democracy in the world, claims like this garner media attention, and frighten and concern voters. But putting rhetoric aside to look at the facts makes clear that fraud by voters at the polls is vanishingly rare, and does not happen on a scale even close to that necessary to “rig” an election."
I try to figure out how it's possible.  If voter cards are manufactured, sure.  I see that.  If u are checked when coming in then I don't see that.

Even in 2000 when Bush/Gore went on it was the Dems that thought voter fraud was a thing.

I hate to break it to you, but the GOP doesn't want to solve the border crisis. They want it to fester so as to keep the base scared and angry.
True. But it’s also true that this is truly a “both sides” issue. Almost no one on either side want to fix it. It gets people to the polls on both sides.
How does it get people to the polls for democrats?
The Latino population makes up about 14% of the electorate. They align with the democrats on illegal immigration more than the gop … something like 55-60% I believe. So keeping it on the ballot by just arguing and only ever making baby steps at best certainly gets people to the ballot box.

This is starting to change a bit so it would behoove the dems to find a different path on illegal immigration. Overall it does appear it is less and less a driving issue for Latino voters over other issues like the economy…so it will be interesting to see how that affects the governing.

55 to 60% is a majority, but certainly not overwhelming...  What are the democratic policies that Latinos align with? I'm not nit-picking, I'm genuinely curious. From what I read, the majority of the Latino population is against the idea of an open border (as are most people, not to mention it's another conservative myth - our borders aren't open). So based on that, they might be inclined to vote republican if they believe the rhetoric.

Immigration is a lynchpin of the GOP platform and has a long history in our country; conservative fear mongering about immigrants coming to take our jobs goes back to the reconstruction era... to suggest it's a 'both sides' issue just doesn't track from what I can see, but I'm open to being corrected.
So.  If you don't think that thousands of people coming in every day is not a problem then we don't have anything else to discuss really.

Nice revisionist history unless you mean “voter fraud” to be the counting of ballots and hanging chads and whether they should count, or not? Or how the “butterfly” ballot was laid out or how the candidate names appeared on ballots from voting district to district in certain battleground and key states?

What were the dems’s “thoughts on voter fraud as a thing” during Shrub/Gore?

Nowhere did I say that. I'm all for getting people on the books and documented and making immigration safer and easier. We need immigration reform.

Speaking of... Do you think the house will accept Biden's offer to negotiate border measures to get Ukraine funding pushed through when they return?

Sorry, that's what I got from that.  I spoke for you and my apologies for that.

No, they won't.  I believe the two sides are too far apart.  A secondary measure will be passed just to get things moving.  Just my guess.

     - No worries.

Re: the two sides being too far apart... you could be right, but if that were the case why tie it in w/ Ukraine funding? Comes off as more bad faith GOP fuckery there.

& let's face it, if the GOP actually DOES want to solve the border crisis (I contend they do not), they sure as shit aren't going to work w/ a democrat admin on it. The "Biden Border Crisis" is too big a selling point for this election year.

Just by whats going on here in NYC i would expect these numbers to balloon quite a bit next month since they haven't already.
    or
Somebody is working the books.  I believe that happens all the time.

I see it below 4%.  That is really amazing considering the soft landing through inflation so far and interest rates as high as they are.

They (R) should want to fix it and get people in through the system.  Great selling point for voting.

We need those interest rates lowered so we can have big projects booming again.

Agreed… it would be a pretty tough pivot from “they’re poisoning the blood of the country” though.

“Somebody is working the books?” Which books? And who is “working” them? BLS? If so, to what end?

Which numbers do you expect to balloon? The BLS vacancy numbers or the unemployment rate? And in which direction? Up or down?

  • From WaPo:

Advocates for immigrants have said past policies that forced migrants into dangerous cities in Mexico were inhumane and have urged Congress to update immigration laws to help address the issue. Business leaders and nonprofits have pointed out that the United States is in desperate need of workers, with an estimated 10 million unfilled jobs.

Who controls Congress? Who refuses to negotiate? Yup, both sides. Because you know, there is no better reason to leave your country of birth with kids in tow, travel thousands of miles and risk your life to make it to another country so you cast a fraudulent ballot in an election you probably don’t really care about unless it’s for dem candidates who will open the border wide and let just anyone in so you can be reunited with your extended family and collect all those free benefits.
