I didn't have a problem with Syrian refugees coming here so why would I have a problem with American refugees?Ditto. I support doing everything possible to help refugees fleeing from the kinds of horrible conditions this caravan is fleeing from. I think they are worth some time, effort, and tax dollars. Stats show that refugees on the whole tend to contribute well to their new countries too, in the long run.All I would ask of our government is to be more strategic about where refugees go once they arrive. There needs to be a system where a ton of refugees aren't coming into a city already suffering from an unaffordable housing crisis. That is bad for everyone, especially the refugees. If the government set up supports for them in strategic locations across the country, that is where they'd go.09/15/1998 & 09/16/1998, Mansfield, MA; 08/29/00 08/30/00, Mansfield, MA; 07/02/03, 07/03/03, Mansfield, MA; 09/28/04, 09/29/04, Boston, MA; 09/22/05, Halifax, NS; 05/24/06, 05/25/06, Boston, MA; 07/22/06, 07/23/06, Gorge, WA; 06/27/2008, Hartford; 06/28/08, 06/30/08, Mansfield; 08/18/2009, O2, London, UK; 10/30/09, 10/31/09, Philadelphia, PA; 05/15/10, Hartford, CT; 05/17/10, Boston, MA; 05/20/10, 05/21/10, NY, NY; 06/22/10, Dublin, IRE; 06/23/10, Northern Ireland; 09/03/11, 09/04/11, Alpine Valley, WI; 09/11/11, 09/12/11, Toronto, Ont; 09/14/11, Ottawa, Ont; 09/15/11, Hamilton, Ont; 07/02/2012, Prague, Czech Republic; 07/04/2012 & 07/05/2012, Berlin, Germany; 07/07/2012, Stockholm, Sweden; 09/30/2012, Missoula, MT; 07/16/2013, London, Ont; 07/19/2013, Chicago, IL; 10/15/2013 & 10/16/2013, Worcester, MA; 10/21/2013 & 10/22/2013, Philadelphia, PA; 10/25/2013, Hartford, CT; 11/29/2013, Portland, OR; 11/30/2013, Spokane, WA; 12/04/2013, Vancouver, BC; 12/06/2013, Seattle, WA; 10/03/2014, St. Louis. Gruff has a point with the sheer size.
One, there is no way these numbers cross the boarder every day as some have suggested. If so, that would be about 10% of our population every year.
These groups are larger than many cities in the US. And even though there may have been times where immigration had numbers of these size crossing, I have not heard of them being a single group at one time. Usually spread out over days and across several states.
So that is a concern, upwards of 10,000 people showing up at once in a single city, how are they supposed to be sheltered, fed, etc?
So no one sees a potential problem and health risk with somewhere between 7 - 10,000 people just showing up at the border?
How long will it take to process that? Where will they be held in the mean time? Whos going to cloth, shelter and feed that many during the process?
I'm not saying turn them all away, but its definitely worth discussing the potential risks. And as Gruff point out, setting this president. If its 7,000 this time, maybe its 20,000 next time.
I see news reports and articles trying to minimize the number by saying this like "50,000 migrants were taking into custody along the boarder last month, so this number is just a fraction of that." But that is a complete false comparison, They're comparing what happened over a month and a few thousand miles of border to what is going to happen in one single day in a single location.
No one else sees potential problems?0 -
Its not that we don't see associated "problems" from it. Its that we don't fear "them" or the "problems." Are we, as a nation, not capable of solving "problems?" Or do we just fear "them?"

How would you solve upwards of 10,000 people showing up on the same day and place without proper clothing, food or shelter? Where do you put them? How do you feed them? How do you process them?0

Serious question
Why is this Americas problem? Is America the only country in the Western Hemisphere? Seems like a good time for Canada to step up while America refuses to do so. Other southern and Latin American countries can't step up?

I'm aware they took some Syrian refugees... which is awesome... I disagreed with the American approach to that crisis
But this is a crisis in the Western Hemisphere... why is this being looked at strictly as an American issue? Where is Canada and the other leaders in this half of the world? Why wait for America to fail to act or a calamity, why not be proactive in a crisis?0 -
Migrant caravan numbers have now swelled to 7,000. yikes. How do you process that many people? Where do you put them? How do you take care of that many at one time?I'll ride the wave where it takes me......0

Caravan's have been coming for years. Main difference now is the president wants to scare up his racist base to the voting booths in 9 days. I suspect we'll hear a lot less about this after 11/ 6...
Gonna take them 4-5 weeks to walk across the entire country of Mexico. Relax. This is no crisis. Immigration in general has been on the decline for quite some time now.www.myspace.com0 -

Negotiate safe passage through America to Canada just like the billions of dollars of goods that easily make it from border to border daily.
