i'm in NYC a lot ... in terms of safety - i definitely feel more safe in the woods than in NYC ... between the pollution, crazy drivers and such - i think the odds of me dying are far greater in NYC ... having said that - it is a relatively safe city although there are pockets where one should not go at certain times of the day ...

I just want to know where the forest of 8 million bears is located. I suspect Canada somewhere. Have you seen it, Polaris? I can't imagine any human actually stumbling upon it would even live to tell the tale.

the biggest issue i have with the american girl is why they set a schedule that would put her in the southern indian ocean in winter?? ... makes no sense ...

yes and no...their then 17 year old son sailed around the world last year and little sis departed a few months after so it may not have been their idea for a tv/book deal but i'm sure they didn't say no when it was offered :roll:

On topic. I have a 16 year old girl. She will be going around the world in a small boat. I'm all for encouraging independence, but that's nuts. My baby is the most important thing in my life. I won't stifle her, but I"m not letting her go into unnecessary danger either.
