Ok, take a few pictures....get a quick video if you must, but keeping your cell phones or cameras up and going for 90 % of the show is just rude and annoying to those behind you. Especially if there are two or more of you together. I'M 5'4 and watching my concert in your viewfinder just sucks.
Inconsiderate people reallllly piss me off.

It's not as bad if the seats are in an arena and it's on a tier. At least there it's not directly in front of you.

you have a point, but doesnt the same thing apply to people that speak during concerts ? Can't exactly tell them to shut up...

Guy i was next to at KC was using his camera the ENTIRE FREAKIN TIME. We were two seats from the aisle and I almost asked him if he wanted to switch seats A) because he was taking taking pictures the whole time and B) he and his buddy are standing like stones...but that's a whole other subject in itself. I just try to utilize the space I'm given and sometimes I need the aisle to get my dancing and jumping in. Anyway, guy took way too many pics

A guy in St. Louis - two rows in front had his camera up about 1/3 - 1/2 of the concert - blocking my view. I wanted to throw something at him. These people might as well bring an umbrella and open it. Or wear a top hat.

You can't hear people talking in the orchestra seats...haha.
These guys had the cameras up, taking videos and pictures non stop.
I brought my camera, I took a few pictures, but really? hundreds of pictures and who knows how much video.

I've got to say, if I ever win the lottery, it will be nearly impossible for me to put my camera down. My absolute favourite thing to do at concerts is shoot. Being at Radiohead at the barrier was a dream come true, and I got some spectacular shots (obviously just my opinion, PM me if you want a link).

Before you knock people who constantly take pictures, know that to be able to photograph my favourite band from that close would be a dream come true for me, and I'm sure many other concert photography enthusiasts. Every single tour, for every show I go to, I contact the Ten Club regarding obtaining a photography pass, and am redirected to their management company, who tell me they will not issue me a pass - but I still try.

All of this said, if someone behind me tapped me on the shoulder, and asked respectfully if I would refrain from shooting, I'd gladly put my camera down, and only pick it up at a few opportune moments thereafter!

cant you just turn off the LCD/display and the flash, or cover them with painters tape or something. then use the viewfinder so you're not bugging anyone else out.

if its too dark, turn flash off, bump up your exposure time, right, photo people? i think on most digi cameras, if you turn the flash off, it will auto expose accordingly after it meters the light.

I agree on both points (and I take a lot of photos)
I never lift my camera above eye level (and im only 5' 7', so i appreciate the OP's perspective -- i usually try to get seats on the wings for that reason (i cant see much if im in the middle of the floor!)). I usually ask the people behind me to please let me know if I'm bothering them. I try not to use a flash, but sometimes its necessary, in which case i try to ask the people in front of me to let me know if the flash bothers them. I wish that I didnt get lumped into the group of people who constantly lift their cameras, phones, etc above their heads. I would group those people with the same people who constantly talk, get drunk and spill beer (or worse) on you, sneak people into your row and generally invade your space. Dont get me wrong, i would have different expectations with respect to "invading my space" if it were a GA show and i was on the floor, but I think when we are talking about bad behavior at concerts, it is the people with no boundries who disrupt your experience that cross the line.

In the end, I would hope that if I get carried away and I'm disturbing someone with my camera, they would politely point it out to me and I'll gladly apologize and stop.

And sometimes, the photos turn out ok!

Most of todays pocket size digital cameras don't have viewfinder anymore. LCD display is the only option. Rather than complaining about this, I'd get used to it. There's no going back.

And besides, everyone here would love to get a video/videos of the shows they have attended, so I don't really see a point complaining about ppl shooting video.

There shouldn't be any problems taking pictures or video when you're sitting @ the lower bowl or upper bowl seats, cause the people behind you should be much taller then you. (if you both are standing @ the show, but what i've heard lately, few have been sitting @ their seats like they were watching a film or something). But I understand where you come from when you are in the GA reserved seats below where everybody is standing @ the same eye level. If you are gonna take a picture or film, don't have it up in the arm, cause next time somebody might bite your damn arm off. Keep the camera @ your eye level. Can't see? Then move left or right, up & down. Take a water break & walk the isle & take a few killer shot's.

NYCPJ, those are some great shots. Sure those came out of a small, handheld camera?

yea youre right I shouldn't of said that my bad. What I meant to say was. If SWIM (someone who isnt me) is recording the whole show that means they are probably gonna edit it up and make it into a DVD so if you want a copy and your sitting around them at the show just give them your contact info and I am sure you will get yourself a copy of the show ASAP. SWIM won't accept cash from anyone. But a good blank 2:1 would be great. Espcially if SWIM decides to make cases and Lightscribe the DVDs BTW. I can change the lighting on my cameras LCD It will still be bright but it does get darker. If anybody has any idea on how I could sheild the LCD screen withouth effecting the Micro phone which is fixed atop the camera I would apreciated it as well as I am sure everyone who will wanna bitch sitting around me.

Thats their problem not mine. As for you laughing about cameras not being allowed into the venues. Well sorry they do. I have already checked and my camera fits within the guidelines approved by both venues security. The thread doesn't seem lokcked down :?: to me

cheapest option: use some painters tape, comes off easily, wont leave sticky residue - u can stick it on your jeans when not on the screen, then slap it on when needed. other options:
    - put on some tint (window film) - i know they also sell temporary static tint sheets for car and home windows, cut a tiny piece and use it, then the LCD wont be so damn bright, and allow you to still see the screen.
    - slap on a PJ sticker
    - make a "book cover" type of flap, so you can open it when needed , then shut it.

I agree with the op 120%. I really noticed this at Cleveland... I blame it on our obsession with technology. My first pj shows were in 98', and there were basically no cameras at those shows. Even the shows over all these years didn't seem to have all the cell phones and cameras out the whole show. The Cleveland show felt like a photo shoot or an Iphone commercial. Everywhere I looked, the whole show, people were filming and taking pics. I mean how many close ups of eddie do you need? If I brought a camera in, which I won't because im there to HEAR music, I would take one or two good shots of each member, maybe the crowd and then Id be done. It bothered me all show and im 6' ft so it dont block my view, just annoying. Lets be more organic pj fans.

It's the downfall of the phone technology as far as concertgoers are concerned. Although I don't like it, it is only going to get worse. So I think we have to get used to it, because it's here to stay.

Don't mind so much the picture takers... usually, the arm goes up, snaps a couple and goes back down. It's the steady eddie (pardon the pun) statues that are shooting video 90% of the show. It's like having a a pole in front of you the whole concert. I don't even mind the people dancing with their hands in the air, waving like they just don't care because at least they're moving so you can see around them most of the time. I'm usually on the floor and am only 5'2" so that has a lot to do with it. It's just a matter of having some respect for the folks around you. The other thing that gets me is that most (now I'm saying "most" not "all") of these people are shooting on cameras or cell phones that are such low quality that it's gonna look and sound like crap anyway ;)

I went through a phase when I started sitting closer and closer to the stage where I would be taking tons of pictures and by the end of the show, I would realize that I missed out on so much because I was focussing so much on getting the best possible picts. I do still bring my camera, but just snap a few here and there. Also, I would just like to note to the people who are more than 10-15 ft. from the stage, your flash is not going to do you any good except to light up the heads of the people in front of you. So turn off your flash and just look for the best possible on stage lighting situations, you will get some nice ones :D

Spread the love and love your concert neighbors!

but anyway, Im not gonna get all self-righteous about it.
all I care about is being able to enjoy the show without obstruction or an LCD screen distracting me from the show-often times the cameras are a distraction-Id love if the venues enforced a no camera policy like wilco did this past tour
