    Remember when everyone thought Arraez might hit .400 this year in June? Well he's at like .350 now and Freeman is like 10 points behind him now :lol:

    Kinda weird that only like 10 players are batting over .300 this year so far.

    You're laughing at 350 though?  That's pretty damn good.

    Freeman has been on FIRE.  Betts too.  I still give the MVP to Acuna though.  Dude has 54 SB's?

    As far as the lack of 300 hitters, the players dont care anymore.  They drive in more runs than get on base it's a better payday for them.  Stupid analytics.  Bregman discussed this where he would rather be at 260 and drive in 100 runs than bat 300.  I tried looking for the interview but can't find it.

    I wasn't laughing at his BA per se. Was more laughing at everyone ("baseball experts") who thought he had a shot at .400.

    No one is gonna hit .400. The pitchers are too good and they throw too many fiery relievers at you these days. Back in 1941 (and it was really hard to hit .400 then) you got to hit off the starter 3, 4 or 5 times and get familiar with him. And you only played 7 different teams. They made a huge deal of Bob Feller supposedly throwing 100 MPH and now like a quarter of the pitchers do that.

    Last person to come close I think was Tony Gwynn when he hit like .395 about 30 years ago. I do remember George Brett hitting .390 during the '80 season. Did Ichiro ever come close?

    Tony Gwynn was amazing. He hit .324 in his final season...at age 41

    Yeah the '94 strike ruined Gwynn's chances. Although if he was over .400 at the time I guess that would've counted.

    But yeah, forget 1941, pitching has changed drastically since 1994.

    If you go way, way back when guys were routinely hitting .350, gloves were the size of your hand. Can’t really compare eras.

    Lots of people did 370.  Only Gwynn and Brett hit 390 and that is highest since Ted Williams' 406.

    I was at a game where he caught the ball in right and gave it to a fan, thinking it was the 3rd out.
    Have seen that replay so many times....crazy.

    I wasn't counting anything further back than what Brett did.

    What's interesting is that even lowering the mound never made the players batting averages shoot up high.  I do know more 300 hitters happened after that.

    1968 Yaz led w an abysmal 301.  That one always stands out to me.

    So what is crazy about Gwynns 372 is that year Walker was on a triple crown threat and batted, get this, 362 and was second to Gwynn that year.  Walkers teammate Galarraga had 140.  What a damn year with those stats.

    Clemens had a WAR of 12 and he's a damn pitcher!

    I would have kept Giolito unless they are bringing up everyone from the minors.

    I want him to get 40/40, but don't think he will. He's definitely got the power to get to 40, as he hit 41 a few years ago and was on pace to get 40 before his knee injury in 2021. I just don't think he's going to get enough pitches to drive to get there. It seems that teams would rather let him get on base and take their chances with the other guys that are more feast or famine type hitters.

    Albies Riley and Olson following isn't exactly a pitchers dream, lol!
    It's not ideal for a pitcher, but those guys are also hitting 60-70 points less than Acuna. Personally, I would probably rather give Acuna something better to hit and bet on myself to get groundouts/strikeouts against the other 3, but it doesn't seem to be the case right now.

    I think Soto is the only one of those three with any "heart"....and I'm not even sure of that.
