Question for mfc: I don’t dislike your astros, but bregman strikes me as a dick. am I wrong?
He's not. He does a ton of charity work and is very approachable with fans. He chatted with my wife and I for 10-15 minutes at Spring Training and he certainly didn't have to do that.

See my reply above. Sure, some athletes are straight-up assholes. He is definitely not one of them.

Not for Braves and Astros fans.
I love Bregs and he is definitely a nozzle.  Cocky too which is exactly why I like him.  he has swag.

  • Bregman's probably a nice guy....but talk about a punchable face.

It's a bummer that the Astros' championship is tainted (BEYOND tainted) because I enjoyed watching them that postseason and Bregman was probably my favorite of the bunch. Loved his walk-off single in that one high-scoring game....when it happened. Now, there's no legitimacy to it.

    LOL about the face.

Regarding the 2017 WS....I agree. It's beyond disappointing because they were definitely talented enough to win it without doing any of that BS. It's a tough one to swallow when you've been a lifelong fan. It's taken me awhile to really get back into the game since the news broke and I really enjoyed their postseason run this year. I definitely understand the anger towards them, but it has gotten a bit out of control and gone too far, in my opinion.

Fans shouldn't be threatened and yelled at just because they're fans. We didn't hit the damn trash cans. It sucks and really has shown an uglier side to sports. I hope that it starts to die down a bit.

That being said, it was impressive how they were all constantly booed and harrassed....yet still played great baseball this year. I don't know if I could've taken that night after night.

I saw them 2x in Buffalo.  They got it fairly bad in the first game, but seemed to play off it.  Maldonado hit a grand slam and Correa hit 2 Homeruns.  They were cupping their hands next to their ears for the crowd and seemed to be having a good time with it.

I do not follow baseball very much in the off season. Is Nov 7th the busiest day for signings usually or do they get spread out throughout the winter?

lot of “former cubs” out there, doing good things.
    That’s our modus operandi.

Sad to see Buster retire, but I’m happy he went out on a high note. He was my favorite non-Cub. Greatest college catcher of all time. Greatest catcher of his generation in MLB. His accomplishments almost sound fictional, but he really did all the things his storied career has written. May he enjoy life and his family!

Expect K's from batters to go up even more and batting averages to fall.

HR's and xtra base hits will go up but small ball will be gone.

one more thought for the posey/munson debate...

in his last year, munson batted .23 above the MLB averaage. posey was .60 above last year. also, BA keeps going down, due to more reliance on hard throwing relievers, shifts  and the new feast or famine mentality.. posey's .302 lifetime vs. munson's .292 is probably more significant than it looks.

    put 'em both in.

Really?  IMO he was off the mark, especially with this example of Atlanta somehow taking advantage.  I thought most of it was strange.

I agree that the whole "Astros" model of tearing everything down to the studs, losing 110 games like 5 years in a row, compiling all the top picks and futures you can is not good for the league or sport...  But the trading deadline being some horrible biproduct of 'tanking'?  It is not tanking.  The Clevelands and Kansas Cities of the world know their season is done.  Know they have player(s) who they will lose for nothing, and decide they want value for them.  I dont think the Indians traded Rosario because they were 'tanking' for last place.  The Braves also had their team decimated by injuries.  At the beginning of the season I predicted them to win the NL Pennant.

He also says it is unfair to the 'good' teams who pay all the money... but didnt the Dodgers add Scherzer, or was that my imagination?

The MLBPA wont accept any arbitration replacement with 'fangraphs' in a million years.

his point that rang true for me was that the braves were able to “find an outfield” because other teams were willing to let good players go for draft picks. more an indictment of the other teams, than of the braves. it might make sense for the other teams but it’s kind of shitty for the fans and probably prevents guys from getting paid their value in the first place. I’ve never liked the trade deadline.
