Well at least someone else playing first base is getting paid 25 per year and is at least worth it. Though the years aren't.
  • Wow! I did not see that coming. I know there were reports that they were in the running for him, but I honestly didn't think it would pan out. I guess this makes Kendry Morales a candidate to be non-tendered now unless they think he can come back healthy and be their DH since he has no trade value at this point. Trumbo has some trade value but I think it's a big risk to move him and hope for Morales to come back, stay healthy, and be productive after missing most of 2 seasons from a stupid injury.

At least the Angels have the option to DH Pujols at the end of this deal, which the Cardinals couldn't do. That takes away a small amount of the risk but it's still a long contract and a lot of money. I just read that it's in the $250-$260 million range.

AND, as a bitter Phils fan, at least those douches in St. Louis lost their hero. Good.

  • Francisco Rodriguez accepted the Brewers' offer of arbitration. Think they're regretting that decision now? He'll probably make at least what he made last year ($11.5 million) and he'll be their 8th inning guy if they can't trade him.
  • Can't believe Pujols is leaving STL. Crazy. That contract is fucking insane for a 32 year old.

it was more bout getting the arm and getting rid of a locker room cancer. pagan wasn't well liked in the clubhouse and was in terry collins doghouse all season. hes a great player when he wants to show up.

    oh, great :x

andres is just the opposite....very well liked

altho 2010 was probably a total anomaly

Holy poop. What a day for the Angels. Now Wilson.

R6 contract is clearly the lesser of these 2 evils; still an evil nonetheless of course.

And yeah - glad those ungrateful Cardinals fans (I have not received one thank you from them for the Phillies getting them into the playoffs) lost their franchise guy. mwah-haha

Years aside, the fact that Howard is getting the same AAV as Pujols is just unbelieveble.

The Angels were an 86-win team with a sub-par offense, now when you add Albert Pujols and another good arm in C.J. Wilson into the mix, they have to be considered one of the favorites to get to the World Series.

However, I still don't think they have enough hitting around Pujols (perhaps except for Trumbo) to get that far.

So we're all agreeing it's Marlins/Angels for the 2012 World Series?

hell no ... the FA's this year are not worth what they signed for ... not even close ...

the added wild card spot makes a diff tho ... i don't see the marlins beating the phils for the NL East ... the Angels are in the same division as the Rangers ... so, they are gonna be looking wild card too ...
  • Now the big question is: Where does Fielder sign? The most recent report I saw said the marlins aren't going to try to sign him. That leaves Milwaukee, the Cubs, and Seattle as the biggest possibilities unless I'm forgetting someone. I have doubts about him signing with Seattle. I don't see them contending with Texas and the Angels anytime soon and that could sway him to pass on their offer. That leaves the Cubs and Brewers unless someone else jumps in the mix. The Cubs are supposed to be rebuilding but I wonder if they'll change their plans and try to capitalize on Pujols leaving St. Louis and try to get themselves into playoff contention by adding Fielder's big bat. It'll take more than just Fielder to pass the Cardinals, though, so I'd say it's 50/50 on them making a serious effort to sign him as opposed to just driving the price up in an effort to either drive the cost up for Milwaukee or open the door for another team to enter the mix and sign him.

the AL West is the epitome of the "haves and have nots"

nice for the angels and rangers to have two teams to beat up on (soon to be three)
