I love me some Black Keys.....And I think the new album is fantastic.

However, I am a bit concerned. This album, be it very good, reminds me of two other bands I loved until a certain album came out. My Morning Jacket with Evil Urges and Kings of Leon with Only by the Night. Both bands lost something with these albums. I think both albums are great and I love to listen, but it seems that both bands tried a little too hard at making an album "fan friendly"

Older Black Keys music is just raw and dirty, unlike anything else out there. This album is great, but its seems a little bit off for the Black Keys for me.

Please Dan and Patrick, dont go too far from what made you, you!
  • im listening to Dan's solo album now. its awesome. love Heartbroken in disrepair and Trouble Weighs a TOn.

I agree. Wish they would lay off the effects on Dan's voice. Seems like more and more production is creeping in as the albums progress. This album, albeit great, is lacking the raw and mind blowing guitars of album's past. Guitar is still great, just less punch-to-the-gut riffs that I've come to love.

im the opposite right now. their first three or four albums are basically the same, i can barely tell them apart. i like them but i can only take so much. they needed to change it up. Attack and Release was a much needed change. but i was dissappointed when i saw them live and none of the other sound from the album was there. just drum and guitar.

Are you guys kidding? Brothers might be their best album. They laid off the studio effects that Danger Mouse provided on Attack & Release (if anything, that was their stab at commercialism), and every song on it just kicks ass. "Everlasting Light" is a fantastic opener and is one of my favorite songs from them. In fact, I can't even pick favorites, because the quality never dips! It's easily better than Magic Potion and the aforementioned Attack & Release. For me it's tied with Rubber Factory as their best.

Edit: I just don't see how it's their Only by the Night. Where is their "Sex on Fire"? If anything, this is the sound that the band has been trying to achieve for years now. They hit it in spots on their previous two albums, but this is their first (at least since Rubber Factory) where they just completely nail it throughout the entirety of the record. Might be my favorite album of the year (tied with Tallest Man on Earth's The Wild Hunt).

Like I said the album is great....."Everlasting Light" might be the best opening song for any album from any band. But Dan Auerbach is so over produced that he almost sounds like Jim James. I love it, but its not the raw sound that was him. Even his solo album from just last year sounds different than these vocals by a long shot.

Where is their Sex on Fire? Its track number 4, Howlin For You. Fantastic song and I cant wait to hear it live....but remember this song. Sound familiar? I think so.

I love this album from start to finish, but I hope they bring it back a little.

For me Next Girl, Tighten Up, and Howlin' For You are the best. I still have a long way to go until I fully realize the scope of the album!

I'll be buying my tickets for the DC show today once the presale begins!! 8-)

Can't fucking wait, never seen the Keys live before. Over the past couple years they've grown on me considerably as a top notch band...never seem to get tired of listening to them.

Got tickets for the Philly show and the Nashville show at the Ryman. Hopefully the Ryman is dried out by then!!

Looking forward to the new album, can't beat a great blues/rock album.

New to the band but I assume checking them out in the intimate surrounding of the John Peel tent on Saturday evening at Glastonbury is a must! ;)

Which album (or two) would people recommend to get some pre-gig listening done?

I'd start with Rubber Factory and Brothers.

Rubber Factory because it's their best record, and Brothers because it's the one they're touring behind (and is actually my second favorite record of theirs, awesome stuff).
