I am in love with them right now. Thanks PJ for bringing in another group that I just love.

Let's show some love for these guys!! Too bad they are only opening for PJ once! (No offense Band of Horses)

  • Absolutely fantastic band. I've been obsessed with them ever since being at a bar one night years and years ago (before Magic Potion was released) and hearing Thickfreakness get played on the Jukebox. I heard that opening slide up the neck intro looked at my buddy and went "Who the heck is this". He shrugged that he didn't know, so I went up to the jukebox and checked it out. Send a text of the band name to myself so I wouldn't forget. Been hooked since.

Love this band. DIscovered them by randomly buying their EP 'Chulahoma' because the cover is just bad-fuckin'-ass.

Seein' them on June 2nd in SLC. Got my name on the guest list. 8-)

Pretty friggin' awesome! Rubber Factory is my favorite album of theirs. I thought Attack & Release was really good, loved the production of it, but Rubber Factory is the true essence of the Black Keys, in my opinion.

Such a cool band. Great live show too, I was standing there shocked that so much sound could come from two guys on stage.

Great, great band. Second to Pearl Jam for me right now. Got into them by purchasing the first live DVD they released on a recommendation in early 2006 and haven't looked back.

My favorite of theirs is The Big Come Up, which really captures them at the rawest. However, much like Pearl Jam, I think every single album they've released is a must own. Seen them live I think 5 times already, which is fast considering I only learned of them in 2006. Also, Dan Auerbach's solo album from last year was my favorite album from last year. Drummer is also really cool. Blak Roc is also great. Everything they touch pretty much turns out awesome. Can't wait for Brothers.

I never heard any of thier stuff before today -- but, Thanks to this thread, I got the push over the edge that i needed. Went out and got Attack&Release and Thickfreakness(?) the other day. Attack& Release is awesome... I needed some inspiration and i found it. :D

Pretty cool band indeed. I have Rubber Factory, Attack & Release and Magic Potion. I don't know an awful lot about them, how many other albums they have or how fanatical people are about them but I'm starting to appreciate how good they are and they'll be a great opener for PJ. 8-)

Holy shit! I've heard of these guys but apparently I've never actually heard them... :o Just YouTubed some of their stuff and GODDAMN! It's bluesy and dirty and simple, just the way I like it.

Thanks, OP! Think I've just found my new obsession.
  • Check the usual torrent sites for the leak. Btjunkie and PirateBay both have it. It's f'n good.

You'll hear a lot of great influences on the new album. Including a great rip off, I mean salute, to CSNY with "Black Mud". :)

I love me some Black Keys.....And I think the new album is fantastic.

However, I am a bit concerned. This album, be it very good, reminds me of two other bands I loved until a certain album came out. My Morning Jacket with Evil Urges and Kings of Leon with Only by the Night. Both bands lost something with these albums. I think both albums are great and I love to listen, but it seems that both bands tried a little too hard at making an album "fan friendly"

Older Black Keys music is just raw and dirty, unlike anything else out there. This album is great, but its seems a little bit off for the Black Keys for me.

Please Dan and Patrick, dont go too far from what made you, you!
  • im listening to Dan's solo album now. its awesome. love Heartbroken in disrepair and Trouble Weighs a TOn.

I agree. Wish they would lay off the effects on Dan's voice. Seems like more and more production is creeping in as the albums progress. This album, albeit great, is lacking the raw and mind blowing guitars of album's past. Guitar is still great, just less punch-to-the-gut riffs that I've come to love.

im the opposite right now. their first three or four albums are basically the same, i can barely tell them apart. i like them but i can only take so much. they needed to change it up. Attack and Release was a much needed change. but i was dissappointed when i saw them live and none of the other sound from the album was there. just drum and guitar.

Are you guys kidding? Brothers might be their best album. They laid off the studio effects that Danger Mouse provided on Attack & Release (if anything, that was their stab at commercialism), and every song on it just kicks ass. "Everlasting Light" is a fantastic opener and is one of my favorite songs from them. In fact, I can't even pick favorites, because the quality never dips! It's easily better than Magic Potion and the aforementioned Attack & Release. For me it's tied with Rubber Factory as their best.

Edit: I just don't see how it's their Only by the Night. Where is their "Sex on Fire"? If anything, this is the sound that the band has been trying to achieve for years now. They hit it in spots on their previous two albums, but this is their first (at least since Rubber Factory) where they just completely nail it throughout the entirety of the record. Might be my favorite album of the year (tied with Tallest Man on Earth's The Wild Hunt).

Like I said the album is great....."Everlasting Light" might be the best opening song for any album from any band. But Dan Auerbach is so over produced that he almost sounds like Jim James. I love it, but its not the raw sound that was him. Even his solo album from just last year sounds different than these vocals by a long shot.

Where is their Sex on Fire? Its track number 4, Howlin For You. Fantastic song and I cant wait to hear it live....but remember this song. Sound familiar? I think so.

I love this album from start to finish, but I hope they bring it back a little.
