    1. President Obama DID NOT cancel Prayer Day it is held every year. He signed the standing proclaimation recognizing National Prayer Day, but decided to skip the East Room event that became a standing practice with Bush, Jr.

    2. Over the years people like James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, with his wife, Shirley Dobson, chair of the National Day of Prayer Task Force have tried to turn this day into a conservative-Christain only observance. With GW Bush help, over the past 8 years, they have successfully sustained that mentality.

    3. President Obama opted not to follow in GW Bush's footsteps, and decided not to have the East Room gathering at the White House on this Day and also, opted out of the breakfast sponsored by the Catholic church the following day.

    3, President Obama's goal was simple - to allow people on National Prayer Day to pray where and as their faith dedicated. That's not acceptable or Godly enough for people like the Dobson.


    With May 6 approaching, I guess we'll hear this same old Dobson song for another four weeks.

    1) Hosted Christmas at the White House even had a Christmas dinner event.

    --- The biggest celebration at the White House, including all the many, many events that lead up to Christmas.

    Gimme posted this....and what is this shit with the governor of virginia declaring april as confederate history month and making no mention of the scourge of slavery? i give people the benefit of the doubt in most cases, but this guy would have to be a fucking moron to leave out mentioning the struggle over slavery that was a large portion of what they were fighting about. that would be like me declaring april iraq war rememberance month and conveniently leaving out we went to war under false pretenses based on a lie that iraq had wmds...

    I never said he canceled it....I said he dissed the whole thing and if it was not required by law for him to issue a proclamation that day who knows if would have even followed thru with that?..

    aerial, if you would read news other than what is filtered to you by fox news you would know that hate groups are on the rise in the last 2 years in this country. why not google it and learn something? or at least do a "thread search" on this forum because we have discussed it and i know that you probably were in that thread. for starters, here are some links for you to read about the increase in hate groups..

    also, you need to remember that "national day of prayer" is not exactly the most important thing for him to participate in. this is not an exclusively christian nation by the way, so the man can do what he wants. but if your church group wants to feel all disrespected because he did not participate yet hosted a ramadon dinner that is up to you...last i heard ramadon is a holy time for muslims that i dunno, probably involves some sort of prayer right??

    My point for bringing up the National Day of Prayer was to say....The Governor of Virginia is not mandated to bring up the subject of slavery just because he declared April as confederate history month ....in the same way Obama was not mandated to be involved in the National Day of Prayer except what he did that was required by law.....just trying to make a piont....I did read the one source and will get to the rest ASAP
