It doesn't justify it, you're right. Obviously the Apache pilot is at fault here, but the same question did cross my mind. Even that first statement you typed out made me wonder: "Two young children involved in the rescue ...". Who brings their kids into a place where bullets and shells are flying around? "Hey, we need some folks to go out on a dangerous rescue mission. I volunteer ... My kids!" I don't get this kind of stuff. I also asked why old ladies engage in hand-to-hand combat with fully armed IDF troopers, and everyone thought I was a terrible person for wondering about that too.

No, people think you're 'a terrible person' because you always, unfailingly, take the side of those committing these crimes. You always take the side of the powerful and try and make excuses for their behaviour.

And here you are once again implying that it's the fault of these Iraqi's that they were shot to pieces.

Careful byrnzie, he mite get all hummus on you.....******** ********

Unfortunately, these children live amongst bombs an bullets. That's their life. If they want to go anywhere, quite often then need to run the gauntlet. No one deliberately sent those kids there, just passer-bys helping fellow human beings. I guess they didn't thing they would be shot at again.

It's a very twisted way to see things just to be able deflect from vile actions of those soldiers. They deliberately (and with glee) fired on unarmed and innocent people. No excuse whatsoever.

When it comes to your pondering of why old ladies engaged in hand to hand 'combat' with fully armed IDF soldiers... because that's all they can do. They defend themselves, their children, their grandchildren, their way of life. They have no guns or other armement. Just their fists (and maybe a few rocks). They do what they need to do.

More melodramatic BS. Its funny how people are a lot more civil and reasonable in private, but in public, they have no reading comprehesion skills.

"Take sides"? I do no such thing. As usual, you're just angry because you selectively read what people post, and then your ignorant little watchdog badbrains has to come in here to back you up. Hypocrite.

there's no need for this ... rfixer is not a bad guy ... at all ... i do believe often things are interpreted poorly on both sides on this forum especially when we factor in discussions from long ago ...

stay on topic and leave the petty insults for those who have nothing relevant to say ...

They showed it on Euronews as well. Makes my blood boil. Wonder if these soldiers will get a bit more than just a lil' slap on the hands. Guess with this 'publicity', something will need to be done. Or it could just be another whitewash.....

That thread was not objectionable at all and I have no idea why you are mentioning it here. I started it because of all the teabagger debates on here and based on a discussion I had with someone else that day in person. With one exception folks weren't interested in the question so the thread didn't go far, which is fair enough. This is exactly what I am talking about. Asking a question on here causes people to make piles of assumptions, which I am having trouble wrapping my head around, if the point of this place is discussion and debate. If the point is to turn these threads into echo chambers where no one can disagree with anyone else, then count me out.
P.S. - Let me spell it out for you. You calling me Joe is annoying and inaccurate, as I've stated before. If you don't want to be called goofy things like Abdul, do another person the same basic courtesy. We are not talking about an extremely high state of moral reasoning here, either.

P.S.S. - Sorry for derailing your thread, pepe.

and a deep breath and hold it.........................

can everyone calm down a little? i know this is a topic that hits a lot of people's emotions but let's not use that energy to belittle each other.

we need to accept we are only seeing a very small fragment of who each other is and often times the posts are hastily written.

When stated that way, it does sound like blame and a failure to take responsibility on the part of the pilot, so I agree. I do think that one can ask WHY kids are involved in a rescue mission, though. It is not clear to me from the clip exactly what role the children played. Were they bystanders and thus being rescued, or were they wounded because they were helping with the rescue? If the latter is true, were they there willingly? Do children in Iraq have to grow up too fast against a backdrop of war, with this being a particularly heinous example? I don't know. I guess what I apparently need to make clear is that the kids aren't to blame either way.

while i agree it doesn't make much sense to take kids into that situation i've read that the father was taking them to a music lesson and saw the guy shot and crawling on the ground so they stopped to help.

regardless, even if it was a rescue mission and they knew there was danger from the helicopters the point is these pilots violated the rules of engagement. they are not allowed to fire unless being fired upon. neither of the times they shot were they coming under attack. they can argue they thought the camera was an rpg launcher but obviously it was never shooting at them and after the van showed up the only moves made were to try and put the person still alive in the van. before the van arrived the pilot said "come on, pick up a weapon, i just need you to pick up a weapon..." and when the van arrived the pilot told whoever was on the other end of the radio it was there to 'probably pick up the weapons.' *which didn't exist*. the pilot WANTED to open fire and was looking for any reason to get the authority.

so, no matter what circumstances happened to bring those 2 kids there doesn't take away the guilt from the pilots. it wasn't a battle zone, it was the US opening fire on a journalist and a dozen or so civilians.

and that's why i don't understand how we can say there's no need to do anything about it. what good is it to have rules if no one is held accountable to them?
