I hated the Zito contract from Day One. This one, I believe, will work out much better (not like it could be any worse ). Good news

Matt Cain went 12-11 last year. He is sub .500 for a career so far. (Though no fault of his own) He made 33 starts last year. That works out to about $618,181 per start. Based on a 100 pitch per average start, Cain will make about $6818 per pitch. By the end of the 1st inning, Cain will have made equal to what two teachers make in a whole year and 2.5 times the average salary of the average American.
Anyone who thinks Cain or anyone else is 'worth' that kind of money and then decry's a teacher's salary and retirment package has no perspective. I will be playing more catch with my kids this year then spending any money at the old ball game. I cannot in good conscience support this.
I gotta say, I kinda agree. I know it's a business; I know these guys are "special"; etc, etc...... but the money being paid to athletes these days is insane.....and it all eventually gets paid by the FANS :x
that said...go matt; go giants

This is usually how the season starts, but to see teams like the Giants, Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies struggling is surprising. Only 3 or 4 games have been played so we have a long way to go. Maybe we can sweep in Colorado. It's kind of hilarious to see the Mets, Orioles, Mariners doing well out of the gate. We will see, as usual.
On a side note, my fantasy team went 13-0 the first week. Auto draft for the win!
I love your optimism....don't share it, but love it.

First time since 2003 Zito pitched any sort of a shutout. He pitched great the first half if 2010 and failed to make the playoff roster. I just added him to my fantasy roster hoping to get a few good games out of him.
At this point, still early, the offense seems to be clicking.
Um, hey there Giants fans. Did that just happen? Am I dreaming?
at the rockies home opener; in front of 50,000 hostile fans. I'm stunned
still not quite ready to proclaim him "back"

If he keeps that up, they might extend his deal a few more years.
in 2010, he started out 5-0, split his next 4 (7-2) and finished 9-14.
in other words....we've seen this movie before.
I'm not sure two 20-win seasons would be enough for the Giants to consider an extension

Lot of money, but not a bad deal for the Giants.

About the only way it could be worse would be if Cain murdered Lincecum.
still a good move. I'd rather have cain locked up long term than cum
Agreed. Just set the bar for Hamels.
good point. I'd go 6, 130-135 for hamels
Yeah, I'd imagine that's what he is looking for.

I like them both.
hamels avg WAR per season = 3.75
cain avg WAR per season = 3.57
Advantage Hamels in a close one
