Absolutely! Bon Scott's era as singer yielded some of the best music of the 70's. The early part of Brian Johnson's reign wasn't the same standard but Back In Black is a classic album and For Those About To Rock and Flick Of The Switch were pretty good too. You could only put two good albums together with what they've released since then since they haven't released anything that great since FOTS. They're still capable of writing a good riff or a catchy single but since Fly On The Wall it's been downhill filler for 90% of the time. I saw them live for the first time in 1986 and they were still really good then and the last time in 2009 and to be honest although they're not what they were it's hard to find a fault with their show. They just do what they always have, can sell out anywhere and if you don't like it I'm sure they don't really give a fuck! This is a band so succesful they can afford to snub itunes because they don't need to....

    1) Razor's Edge
    2) Who Made Who
    3) Back in Black
    4) Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

Some damn good Rock 'n' Roll albums right there.... Not to mention some great jams from High Voltage, Highway to Hell and Let There be Rock... I have to say, I think this is a very important band for music.

I used to dislike because of the fact they believed the song remains the same them for years when I was a teenager ... but Back In Black did make me change my mind. The Bon Scott era albums were fuckin great IMHO and their live shows are still one of the best around, the last concert here in Budapest was the loudest one I've ever been part of but to my biggest surprise still sounded just perfect! And there was no tinnitus the other day :-)

So I disagree, they are still around because the world still needs the top-notch shows they do.

posted in here before, but I will say I have 4 ACDC albums:
    Razors Edge
    Highway to hell
    Back in Black
    Black Ice

Each album is great. Yeah, the chord progression and sound is simple, and might sound the same but EVERY band has a distinct sound.

AC/DC live was awesome, and I only got to see them on the Black Ice tour. Although I can't speak from an earlier stand point tour wise, the show was amazing. Only real noticeable difference was Brian pulling back vocally on the "you shook me all night long" chorus, and not hitting it as high vocally. But hey, voice wears with age in musicians and you work with what you got. That being said, "you shook me", still sounded good.

OP you would have a better ground to stand on if you were saying this band is annoyuing because they {PLAY WAY TOO LOUD......which they MOST certainly do. Louder than The Who which IS an amazing feat one of the first concerts during the Black Ice Tour I wore ear plugs and it was STILL too LOUD. Great show just the same.

I don't "hate" AC/DC, but I've never really understood the hype. I have a couple of CD's, and more than that in my iTunes on account of ripping CDs that friends have, but I rarely listen to any of them. They do kind of sound all the same to me also.

One thing I've noticed is they always sing about "Rocking". Looking at my iTunes (which is not even a complete AC/DC discography) there are 15 songs about Rock/Rocking/Rocker, and 2 albums in which one of those songs is the title track. And that's not counting songs like "Whiskey On The Rocks" and "Hard As A Rock", which aren't about "Rock & Roll" but have the word Rock in the title. I know other bands have done that, but I'm not sure any band does it quite as much, and it just seems like lazy song-writing. It's like "we get it, you like to rock".

And when they're not singing about rocking, it seems like their other go-to subject matter is dick/balls.
"See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"
  • These guys deserve much more respect than what has been uttered throughout this thread by some, ACDC is a great band. Granted, I haven't listened to anything after Back in Black... but that album as well as Highway to Hell did quite a bit for me in my 'formative years'.

Lyrics aren't the most profound ones, but if you wanted a party to perk up back in my big partying days... all you had to do was throw on Touch Too Much, Shook Me All Night Long, or, really, any song from either of those two albums. TNT or Jailbreak had a similar effect.

Much of their great music had high commercial appeal and has been overplayed. I rarely listen to any ACDC and might even switch the station from Boneyard to Lithium if something from them comes on; but to say they are the shits is a little bit of a stretch.

    No thinking required- just volume!

Couldn't agree more, OK, they haven't made a good album since For Those About To Rock...., but all the Bon stuff and Back in Black are classics, no nonsense, head down, rock 'n'roll. I too saw them in '86 (probably the same gig, Playhouse?) and haven't seen them live since the mid 90's (and only then because Kings X supported them) and I could still probably guess their set list, but I feel I have to defend them, they (along with Di'anno era Maiden) were my first loves. Respect where it's due.

    Yes, I cannot stand them.
Their music all sounds the same, their lyrics are just cheap, the singers voice shits me, sounds like he is constipated and is trying to push one out. All repetitive, no moving forward with their music.
Their music is totally uninspiring and does not provoke any thought other than the thought of them sucking.
And their fans are all a bunch of feral tough guy, ute driving, tradesman, bullying type bogans here in Australia who hang around pubs hanging for a fist fight.
One of the biggest bogans (who is a bully to me and others) at my work is a big ACDC fan and went to their show, why does it not surprise me that he is a ACDC fan?
And one final thing, the Aussie media should stop labeling them an 'Aussie Band'.
They are born and bred Scots/Englishmen who do not even live in Australia and haven't for years.
Rant over, fuck you ACDC and your fans.
I hope your next two Melbourne shows are canceled so your brainless feral bogan legion of fans can go the pubs around Melbourne to blow of some steam and have a biff.

Don't know what kind of overseas fan ACDC attracts, are they bogans, are they as you would say in the US....jocks?

Your Australian countrymen deserve an apology from you.

I was at Maiden as well, I think, no year on the ticket. 27th Oct? Some of the prices are laughable when you look at them now £7 for Kiss and Bon Jovi (1984), £5 for Slayer in '87, £8 for Metallica in '88 (think that was Danzig supporting!!) Even more recently, £10 for Sepultura at the Barrowlands in '96, same price Slayer at Barrowlands '94, £7.50 for Chillis with Rollins in '92. Even my first Donington '87, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Black Crowes, W.A.S.P(?) and Cinderella (?) was only £15.

Fecking frightening the price of tickets nowadays

Maiden 86 was 26th & 27th October, I went to both shows and they were identical. Paul Samson's Empire supported and they were really awful. Metallica 88 was with Danzig indeed, Metallica had that collapsing justice statue and my ears were ringing for two days afterwards! £8....

The only Maiden support I can remember (the rest must have been terrible) is Wolfsbane in 1990, really enjoyed them.
I lied about seeing AC/DC in the mid 90's, Kings X supported them at the SECC in 1991 (doesn't time fly, really doesn't seem that long ago) so the last time I saw DC was at Donington 1991

Yeah, Fastway toured with them quite a lot from 85 - 87. I don't remember being that impressed although being a typical teenager I bought the album on the way out from their merch stall (cassette of course :D ) just because I'd seen them. I think it was called Waiting For The Roar? Did you see Ozzy in 92 with D.A.D. and then go up to The Venue straight after for Baby Animals? What a night that was! I saw Maiden at the Playhouse a lot of times and besides Metallica I also saw Anthrax, Skid Row, Cinderella, Dave Lee Roth, Extreme, Megadeth and plenty more. I went there in 07 for my father's 60th birthday to see Kris Kristoffersen and I walked past the ticket office in 87 when Tom Waits tickets were on sale and I had only just heard him a few times then. If only I knew how much I'd be regretting that today.... :|
