neil jam played Israel in 95. so yes pj should play Israel.
Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight
    Sammi: Wanna just break up?

  • i dont get why u people dont think the fans.....u judge people from nationality..dont get it..pearl jam dont play israel couse of what israel goverment does...so what that means???that the fans of israel are bad people, they are evil?theyshould stop being a fan?
so why they play in japan???they fuckin bomb pearl harborn!!!!and fuckin germany???they start 2nd world war!!!!!come on...
    not even close dimitris..

to the best of my knowledge, pearl jam did not play in japan while they were bombing the fuck out of pearl harbor, and pearl jam didn't exist in the 2nd world war.

the UN consistantly condemns the Israeli settlements in the occupied territories as illegal, and their treatment of the Palestinians as brutal and inhumane. the Palestinians have, and continue to sufffer years of physical and psychological violence and oppression at the hands of Israel.

the US is funding this. WE are funding this.

    and it's happening NOW.

not fucking 50 years ago. NOW. i couldn't do or say anything about what happened years ago. i wasn't born then, but i sure as fuck can now, and i will, and i'll çontinue to do so. until it stops.

    free Gaza. boycott Israel.
its a fuckin rock concert man, with songs about peace ,love...
if someone need to boycott israel is companys, markets, weapon industrys..and not music...and be sure Eddier can make something amazing with microphone on stage..
and dont have to add that usa is allies with israel, and not with palestines,,israel has for exable,f-16,american aircraft, and palaistine has russian missles..its a fuckin circle...
i see this a chance for 2 things,,and israelian fans can see their favorite band and the boys make the best peace party ever..
80% of Israelis supported the massacare in Gaza in January when 1400 people were murdered, and considered it a job well done. until people from Israel begin to oppose their own government's oppressive policies, this will never end.

you might think that Eddie can do what human rights groups, the UN and so many other people around the world can't do, but i don't. you really think Eddie can do that? they don't listen to anyone else, so they sure as shit won't listen to Eddie Vedder.

It's only a few weeks ago that thousands of peace activists from all over the world, were at the last minute, not permitted to enter Gaza. for over a year, they had been planning the Gaza Freedom March. the activists had come from far and wide, hoping to join the residents of Gaza in non violent demonstration, and march the Long Mile across Erez checkpoint. it was hopeful the march would be viewed as the first step in a protracted nonviolent campaign.

in the end, only 85 of those participants who had travelled from all over the world, were allowed entry to Gaza. how fair is that? why should Israel get Eddie Vedder (to promote peace as you say, and we all know that won't change a thing), and yet the people of Gaza get fuck all?

the Gaza Freedom march would have been a perfect opportunity for peace to be promoted and they made sure that never happened. so fuck them. unless the fans in the occupied territories get to see them too, then they don't deserve pearl jam. and we know how much chance there is of that happening.

this thread is about how we think and feel about the situation Dimitri. you have your views, i have mine. some things are closer to my heart than others. just how it is.

you know what the best peace party ever would be dimitri????

if palestinians were treated as equals by the oppressive israeli government.

eddie vedder would do NOTHING, let alone anythign amazing, for the peace process if pj played israel. not a god damn thing.

A peace party also would be Tibetans treated as equals by the oppressive Chinese gov't. PJ may be on the bill to play in China though, and I hardly see how this so-called Peace concert for Earth Day is about Peace while Chinese torments the country next door. I know, people think it would spread awareness...

If PJ were to play Israel? Not only would Eddie do nothing promoting peace in the region, it would probably get the band in hot water. Just sayin'. And the band has become further and further away from being involved politically anything since Obama won. Playing in Israel would land them back in political soup.

they cant choose a place couse ther ar alot of serial kilers,or was a civil war,
u think they dont play in russia couse they bomb chechenia???
panish fans only couse their goverment is bad i dont get it...
the funny would be is that pj boycott israel by not playing there and they buy ipod from BH stores

dimitri, I think you're overlooking the fact that Israel is a dangerous country to travel to right now, let alone organize and play a concert in.

would you be ok if Pearl Jam played South Africa during its apartheid and the venue wouldn't allow any black Pearl Jam fans, only white ones? do you think the crowd would react favorably if the band spoke against that? you're still taking their money and profiting from it!

they could play a country close to Israel where Palestinians could also attend the concert because if they played in Israel they wouldn't be allowed in.

it's nothing against Israeli's, Dimitri, although a shocking number were happy with the massacre over a thousand Palestinians and there was a school a few years ago in Israel that had its kids write letters to the IDF telling them to kill as many arabs as they could and the only good arab is a dead arab....

we're just saying wouldn't it seem odd if say in the 60's if the Beatles had a concert to promote civil rights and only white people were allowed in?

No one is saying it is the only problem in the world. Also, just because other parties are guilty does not absolve the former of guilt so there is no point in listing all what is wrong with the world.
80% of Israelis supported the massacare in Gaza in January when 1400 people were murdered, and considered it a job well done.

Taking this into consideration, then the fact that their is a higher percentage of left-leaning Pearl Jam fans, we can assume that around 60-70% of the people attending the concert supported the massacre of 1400 people that had no way of defending themselves. Yes, great crowd to rock out with!

To each his own but if Pearl Jam played Israel for commercial purposes and not under the banner of peace I wouldn't let my membership expire by the end of the year, I would ask for it to be revoked immediately. There is a reason I am a member of this band's fan club and that reason is EV and his commitment to humane causes.

The purpose of this 'so-called Peace concert for Earth Day' isn't confined strictly to China. If you read the article above it states that the plan is to broadcast the concert all over the world. Then again, maybe this 'so-called Peace concert for Earth Day' can hardly be about peace while the U.S is busy plundering two countries in the Middle East and supporting ethnic cleansing in another.

I've said before and I'll say it now, pearl jam NOT playing Israel is there way of protesting this issue...I believe it'll remain silent in Israel because we all know if Ed had the mic he would say something and that something would be career suicide....just read the book- they dare to speak out. See what happened to all who ever critisized Israel.....

also, i seriously doubt you have 100 current examples that are comparable to what Israel is doing

Your country may allow them to enter but you are assuming they get the chance to leave the West Bank considering the restrictions the Israelis put on them. Here I only talk about the Palestinians of the West Bank because there is no way in hell the Palestinians of Gaza will be allowed so there is no point discussing them. The other issue is that Israelis make it their interest to make a Palestinian's return to the west bank as humiliating as possible so they seek other options, other than returning to their country that is. My own friends have waited in Jordan for a day or two to pass the crossing to the West bank to see their families and then at times stripped searched, their luggage unpacked and several harmless items confiscated just for the sake of it. My friend bought me a kuffiyah from the West bank as a souvenir and as he was leaving, they pulled him aside, searched his bag, confiscated several things from him (including the kuffiyah) and told him to "watch his actions abroad" because we are "keeping an eye on you". Meaning that if he continued to join protests and these kind of things he may be refused entry to the West Bank to see his family. Have you also heard of the families in the West Bank that have been shipped to Gaza and refused entry to the West Bank to see their extended family? Or the families in the West Bank that live in one Palestinian town and are refused entry to another Palestinian town in the West Bank? Yah, those Israelis, great crowd to rock out with!

The hospitality of the greeks is not in question. Those that make it to your country have 'escaped' and, as long as the situation is as it is, will probably never be able to return to their home.

youre missing the point dimitris. if pj were to play in israel, the palestinians would not be allowed to attend... IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY. a country that is slowly but steadily being stolen from underneath their feet. other countries hospitality is irrelevant.
