Posted this in the other Arcade Fire thread, but this seems to be the main thread..

Listened to the new album a couple times and not liking it at all.  Peter Pan and Chemistry are just flat out awful songs....easily the worst songs they've ever made.  Hopefully some of these songs will translate better in concert.  Still one of my favorite bands, but this feels like a big miss.

Agree 100%. I really hope others like it when they hear it, but it's not for me. Oh well. I'll still see them live.

I've been listening to the new album this morning and I don't see that it's much of a departure from where Reflektor was heading. I quite like it on intitial listening. I do prefer their first 3 album, but haven't minded the other stuff either.

The new album is absolutely AWFUL IMO.

It seems to be pretty devisive. You at either in the "absolute trash" side or the "it's not that bad " camp. Either way no ringing endorsements.

I enjoy about 75% of it immensely. I can do w/o Chemistry through both Infinite contents.

I finally had a chance to give it a few listens. The first five tracks I love, until Chemistry which might b the worst track in their catalogue (Creature Comfort I can't get enough of). Album kind of loses it from there as the only track after 5 that I enjoyed is Put Your Money on Me. For AF it's weak but it is an obvious extension of Reflecktor which I love. I agree, not as awful as some saying but not great either. Would have been a sick EP if it was just tracks 1-5, 11.

Won a trip off the radio today to see these guys in their hometown, Montreal! Then I got home from work and the new cd is in the mail because I got one for free when I bought tickets to their show in October.

At first I thought Everything Now as a single was trash, but now I love it. Hope that happens with the album for me too

yeah there are a couple "filler" tracks on it.  Kinda with you the first half of the album is real good.  Chemistry I kinda like.  It's after Chemistry that it kinda gets uninteresting for me with the exception of like 1-2 songs.

Thank you, hoping the let us add two days onto the trip so I can check out Quebec City too. Free flights, hotel, dinners and vinyl of the new album. A pretty awesome prize

Back from the Montreal trip and have listened to the album thoroughly. IT has 12 songs I believe, I'd say there are 5-6 really good ones and the rest are mediocre at best. The last song, We don't deserve love, is slowly becoming my favourite. They basically play the best songs from this album in concert on this tour so no real let down with a few bad songs in the setlist.
Their set up is pretty cool too with what is literally a boxing ring in the middle of the floor. Probably better views for the upper bowl then normal. If you have floor seats it really doesn't matter if you are "on the rail" as they play to four sides. Well worth spending some $ to see this tour

  • I'll be seeing them Tuesday!
  • OK!  So them last night and they killed!

My favorite part of the night was their exit.

The opening band Preservation Hall Jazz band came on stage to do the finale Wake Up with the band.  After the song was over the band kept playing and they walked right into the crowd while playing.

Will Butler sang Stand By Me at the end of the jam.

This is one of the reasons I love seeing live music, for moments like this.

If I can learn how to post videos here I'll share it.

The new album hasn't grown on me as i hoped it would (though it has a few highlights - love Creature Comfort, EN and We Don't Deserve Love).  Still, they are so good in concert.  I went to MSG the other night and it was great. Very solid setlist and, of course, everything sounds better live!  I wish they would play more from Neon Bible (earlier in the tour, they played Black Mirror and Windowsill).  Anyway, Ive seen every tour since Black Mirror and they never disappoint in concert - go see them!
