soo ... now Christmas is about saving the economy?? ...

we soooo live in a false existence ... sad really ... oh well - whatever it is, at least this is a time that some people take time to ponder what truly is important ...
I never said Christmas is saving anything...

I asked if anyone knew what percentage of retailers profits are made during ther Christmas season....
How many of those retailers put college kids, high school kids, people looking for part time work, to work for a couple months???

    actually you kinda did.....
If people didnt go out and buy the Clappers and gifts made in China...
If little Johnny didnt get his power ranger doll....
If little Mary didnt get her little Barbie doll....

If Christmas in the USA didnt exist...

What would happen to the economy??
How many retailers would be out of business???
How many college kids who come home to work the holiday month.....Would be shit out of luck????
How many full time employees would be let go.....If the Christmas shopping season didnt exist????

People should be fucking thrilled that a large majority of us have NO FUCKING PROBLEM going out and spending a weeks pay on Christmas gifts for our loved ones.....

usually when people use multiple ? it means they have their minds made up towards the question. especially when you concluded it by saying 'people should be fucking thrilled that a large majority go shopping. so, why should we be thrilled? because you are implying by doing this they are keeping the economy afloat. if not that then why else should we be thrilled for it?

I don't know if anybody has already said this but...while shopping and gift exchanging is all fine and dandy
the real reason we celebrate this time of year is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and to remember
why he gave his life here on earth for us. ;)

It's strange the few times this movie comes I get stuck watching it. Maybe there's some truth to it. It has former wrestler Roddy Piper trying his best to act.

I was trying for the longest time to remember the name of this movie. Somebody on here had an avatar for that movie, I think it was Vinny G.

    peace

    It sure was me.

The movie is not without some cheese, but it makes a great point.

So does the Grinch and other meaningful Christmas programs. But there's also the sponsors and advertisers...it's pretty quickly people forget what the message these shows put out.
    What exactly would Jesus buy?

    Pepe answered your question.

It's 'They Live'. It's a classic. You should check it out. It has the maddest fist-fight scene I've ever seen in a movie.

i know....i was simply pointing out this is nothing new. sponsors and advertisers, well that's what they do, isn't it? it's up to consumers to make choices for themselves if they will buy into it and consume more. i like to give people a little bit more credit that they are making choices they want to, not simply b/c they are a target demographic for advertisers. all sorts of people choose to celebrate, or not, in all sorts of ways.

you really could not get parents who were anymore religious and observant as my parents, and yet they did the whole santa thing, and we got buried in gifts on christmas. we also were taught to give to others, which we did at christmas and thruout the year, and were taught responsibility. it's possible to do both. nowadays, as mostly all adults our holidays are very much scaled down on the consumerist side - tho gifts are still given - but the spirit of the holidays remain intact, as do the celebrations.

Fucking love this movie. It has some of my all-time favorite lines (might be off a bit...):

"I'm here to kick ass and chew bubble gum... And I'm all out of bubble gum!"
"Life's a bitch, and she's back in heat."

And the final scene as he's dying when when he flips them off... AWESOME.

I hate the holidays for this reason! The commercialism. It IS what it IS and there is nothing I can do about it, except not participate, which I don't to the most I can get away with.
