I was just a few seats in front of this douche against the wall. The first time it might be funny, but after the 14th time of yelling stupid outbursts of nothing, it gets old. I definitely got sick of his rants real fast.

Rallying people around you and simultaneously telling the shithead to shut up I think will work the best. Be prepared for the onslaught of the toughguy to want to fight you next!

Or you could have another beer.
  • have another beer......i wouldn't let the hecklers rob you of your joy ya know. i imagine santa cruz was tame compared to vancouver, it least that's what it sounds like. i'm curious as to how berkeley is going to be.

  • hecklers and people that like the sound of their own voices, suck.

i happened to be sitting 4 seats away from the dumb ass yelling “fuck vancouver” (among other things) at the santa cruz show last night – so i guess this is a bit of a rant. i was so upset... and i felt like i paid a lot of money (as everyone else did) to see the show, and i missed most of ed's stories because this guy wouldn't stop talking and yelling. there were the murmurs of “shh” and “geez, shut up” - but no one directly told him to be quiet. i guess it was worse, too, since the venue was so small and intimate.

how should hecklers be dealt with? besides being punched in the face (okay, i'm not really that hostile, just still vexed by it). i felt that telling him to shut it might only make him yell louder and more often...

i hope this doesn't become the case for the upcoming shows.
I hate fucking idiots like that. I almost got in a fight in Phoenix 2000 because these assholes in front of me were drunk and yelling to each other. They weren't even fans....they just got tickets from work or something and they were just yelling back and forth between the six of them, probably because they were so drunk. And it was only a handful of songs into the show before I just said flat out, "Hey, why don't you guys shutup so I can hear?" They were offended and talked about me as if I weren't there....then I just said, "Seriously, SHUT THE FUCK UP." And they did. But I heard them throwing around the idea of kicking my ass before they did eventually shut up.

Either way, I guarantee I'd do it again. And I will in LA if anyone is being a fucking prick while Ed is singing or talking.

just got back to michigan from the show...before i go to bed, my brother and his wife were near that guy too...he irritated them as well...if it's any consolation...i was 12th row and couldn't hear him...so ed probably didn't hear it either.

Could someone tell me what the hell that damn sign said that was being held up around the second or third row in the center. I chuckled everytime I heard someone yell "Put down the god damn sign!" It did seem a bit much since it was blocking folks view.

I just got back from CT. I only heard the one guy yell "let's party" in which Eddie responded. Other than that I heard no one but eddie. :)

I sat right in front of a girl who felt the need to sing every song at the top of her lungs, shout at Ed like he was her buddy, and call out song names after he stated what the next song was to be about (Just in case he forgot what he was going to play) BIG ASS MOUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tell them to shut up with authority. dont be afraid. when it comes down to it, everyone else will back you up and they will get tossed. it sucks that this is overshadowing the greatness of these shows.

this is what i would do.

especially if the person was right near me.

go up to them. look them in the face and tell.....don't ask....them to shut up.

funny thing is...i did this once and the guy was drunk so he wanted to fight and i went up to security and told them i felt threatened...surprised they payed any attention...and escorted the guy out of our area.

I was in row M...left orchestra. And I was at the venue around 4pm, listening to the preset and hoping to see Ed. Were you there? See you at Berkeley!

I was in row M too... there was an annoying girl behind me that was signing off key and a little too loud. She was trying to sign with Eddie during Arc, which was really annoying. At one point I looked back and she was standing on her chair. If I was behind her I would have killed her. I looked at the guy she was with and he looked pretty embarrassed.

The whole issue is respect for others. We're all there for the same reason and one person having a good time shouldn't impede on everyone else enjoying themselves. I think a ass-kicking is a good way to do sometimes, but only if you can get someone to hold them while you punch them.

I thought I saw someone holding one up that said "thank you" but it wasn't a huge sign.

I think people standing up and dancing (even during the slow songs!) was annoying. Even though it wasn't directly in front of me, it was within my line of sight and kind of distracting.

Seriously. Just have another beer at the show.

You OBVIOUSLY didn't see the venue wrap-around beer line! The true source of the rage me suspects!

No I saw the thank you sign which was in the left orchestra. The sign I'm referring to was dead center two or three rows back and was pissing off quite a few people (well I guess the person holding it was, not the sign). :D

Oh, I think I saw her, but I guess I'm lucky I couldn't hear her. She was about 3 seats to the left of me....

Where you the guy that told some people to get in the wrong line and then you mentioned it to us at the venue (you'll know what I'm talking about if it is you) ??? If so, I was the guy who got in the wrong line.

  • I went to both vancouver shows and those same annoying loud mouths were up there too. It was as if part of the crowd were newbies, and were expecting something else. I heard everything from multiple "I love you Eddie's" to "it's OK Eddie" after he flubbed some lyrics. Really rude and obnoxious. Then you also had the newbies screaming out requests. Ed shut them up the second show though, which was fucking amazing. I don't get people, or I guess I don't understand people who don't understand Eddie and PJ. Viva La Vinyl!!

So your saying you bascially started a fight with a drunk guy and then was a bigger weasel by telling security that you "felt threatened". You created the situation and lied to security (sorry, you weren't threatend enough to go up to perfect stranger and tell them to "shut up", which is probably bullshit too since your obviously leaving something out). Your probably a bigger douche then the drunk.

Sorry pal, your annoying loudmouths didn't really do anything wrong (if people didn't yell and scream at a concert, it wouldn't really be considered a concert). You actually come off as quite obnoxious when you refer to someone as a "newbie". You don't "get people" because your an elitest in this sense who thinks they have some delusional holier then though connection to a band.

I would just tell him to shut the f up. I had to do that to some people when I went to see Old Crow Medicine Show.

There are different types of concerts. Yelling, screaming and going wild is perfectly acceptable at some, but not at others. If this is an intimate, mostly-acoustic show during which Ed lays his soul out there, then shouting and screaming is inappropriate. If you disagree, perhaps you are lacking what they call maturity, manners and class.

A few people are merely hoping they'll be immortalized on a potential bootleg, without realizing those of us who end up buying/downloading the bootleg will despise them for ever more.
