I made the mistake of giving this album a first listen while driving to work with a distracted mind. I called it boring and forgettable. I might still feel that way over time, but it definitely seemed way more interesting to me when i played it in a dark room laying in bed last night. Will give it some more time, it might be clicking.
On first listen I thought this is not the summer jam I will be blasting from my car haha. Definitely a headphone experience. Curious to see how they come off live.

this is the Kid A for the millennials. best taken with a tab of acid. I think this record is Johnny vs Thom. they are almost to the point that the Beatles were when they tried to make Let It Be. 2 songwriters pulling in 2 different directions. still about 1/2 of the album is excellent. and I am sure it will grow on me.

I'd say Johnny and Thom are the most aligned in terms of vision.
I am not so sure.... sounds like Thom is singing over a trip hop beat and then johnny comes in with some beautiful orchestral scores. it works on some songs but on others it just doesn't sound right to me.
I do think they are probably the only members with input nowadays.

It's definitely Thom and Johnny orchestrating their visions on the rest of the band but, I have no doubt at all that Nigel played a huge part in the final product that is AMSP.

This album is so awesome. I loved TKOL too, in fact that is the album that got me into Radiohead believe it or not. But this one really does strike me as eventually being up there with their classics like OK Computer, Kid A , and In Rainbows in the future. I'm seeing them at ACL fest too, my first time at ACL, so I'm really excited. I saw them in Dallas in 2012 and was lucky to get one of the best set lists of the tour.
Been listening each day, find Identikit my favorite so far (I like the rockin Radiohead best) - I think it's interesting how they restrain themselves in the studio - from what I hear, they take the songs and really expand on them live, but I do wish they'd do more of that on record - that's one thing PJ does better on record in my opinion - there's more blood on the record. Eddie's vocals on Save You, Mike's solo on Alive - those are studio takes and yet they feel so immediate and visceral...Radiohead are great at the cerebral- and I give them credit for the restraint, but there are definitely moments on this record (and others) where I want them to take it up a notch and instead they retreat, often ending the song exactly where it feels like it's about to take off (and probably does in concert). the whole record's easy to listen to, oftentimes beautiful, reminds me of Sufjan's latest, except more electro/produced. Would've liked a few more 'there, there' moments, but it's still a fine statement. Maybe with the right headphones and 'trip,' I'd be calling it a masterpiece like others, but right now, it's just slowly growing on me (blooming, as my superfan gf says).
Can't wait to see them at MSG - just need to get one tix for night 2 for my girl (or she'll kill me and take mine)

Crap! I want one of these!! Id be on the List after Scurtis of course. Too bad I have lots to trade or if you can somehow grab another I'll pay for yours plus the ship of course.
It's really irritating that they won't post this album on Spotify. Most of their other music is already on Spotify, so it seems beyond a little late for them to be taking some stand against it. Seems like a stupid stand to take anyway, if they are fine with other streaming services.

If you order the special edition, you can download 16-bit WAVs or 320kbps MP3s of the album right now anyways. In case you need reasons to justify the purchase

It really is incredible that Radiohead are able to make an album, this far into their career, that is so challenging on 1st couple of listens. I find that the best albums are the ones that make you say "wtf" on first listen but then you realize that there is amazing depth to it. Thanks Radiohead!!
Great first set of the tour last night. Some people will be surprised that a LOT of the show is comprised of the last 3 albums. Happy I saw a lot of the bends through HTTT years ago.
