I didn't know that all the U.S shows were seated. If this is the case, I can't see why management decided to do General Admission for the current Australian tour.

If anyone at PJ HQ reads this - For the next Australian tour, please revert back to seated floor plans.

The only shows that have GA here are the one's that have festival settings like LOLLA ,ACL,so forth, but any arena shows have reserved seating but still even for festivals here the crowds just wan't to enjoy the music and just rock on not to aggressive at all ...

I volunteer to be doompony's body guard. All you need to do is pay my airfare from Seattle and provide me with ticket to the show. BTW, I'm 6'4" and weigh about 240 and know kung foo. I'm a big mo'fo'. :D I will protect you and MR. SNUGGLTON from all the arseholes no problem.

I'm speaking for some of the 10C members and non-members who had to endure violence and aggression at the Perth show. The 0.0001% of idiots fucked it up for others - that isn't right.

Ah, the beauty of paying for reserved seats. No headaches. You can go for a drink, check out the merchandise table, hang out with friends anytime & anywhere. When finished, you can head back to your seat. The seat you payed for. A seat nobody can bother you in. Nobody can push & shove. A seat of zen. You can place your poster, your jacket etc.. seat back & relax.

GA sucks. I would pay double even triple the price on ticket's to have reserved seats then to be in today's GA standing show's. People today are not like the people of yesterday. Trust me. There are alot of crazy nuts out there that will try to ruin it for you. The 'woman & childen first' rule, doesn't apply during a rock show these day's. Last few show's I went to, I've seen & heard how fans would crash their way from the very back of the show & get their way to the very front. The 'excuse me' or 'i'm sorry' words when pushing & shoving, don't apply to many. Say over 75% of people today. It's pretty sad. Somebody mentioned earlier that people today are calmer then before. Are you out of your mind! With all the newest drugs, more smoking & drinking @ show's then ever before, the economy, the internet, the popularity .. things have been wilder then ever before.

    Show them force in numbers.
I didn't have many numbers around me, and yea I got pushed passed and shoved, but what I did have was being surrounded by people who were there for PJ.
TIP...Rock out Hard, Dickheads see this as an inpassable route because they might accidently get head butted to EVENFLOW or have Eyes poked out by hand signals. F@*king Pussies.

The problem nowadays(do I sound old) is there is no repect..I have been going to GA concerts since the late 80's 9everything from Death metal to punk and surfer tunes) and I think it is getting worse, as you get these hyped up on something teenagers(and older ones too) who couldn't give a shit about the band on the stage, they just want to cause havoc. I remember seeing the Oils in the early 90's at a Pub in Brissy and a fight broke out and the then Hon Peter Garrett stopped the concert and pointed out the offenders and waited for them to be escorted out, along with a speech about being thugs...took about 10 minutes, but it calmed everyone down and was well handled. That's why I don't go into the pits at the BDO or other festivals now..too many young men out to prove how tough they are and as a reasonbly big bloke, they like to try and test you. I am there to see musicians play music not to be fxcked with by some moron. If they try it in Brisbane , I will take the pricks out myself

So no "moshing" or "crowd surfing". My MRS is worried about being smashed up and constantly having that swaying feeling..? was it like that? Or should i take one for the team and stand to the sides?
  • I was on that side - it really wasn't too bad and security DID sort it out fairly quickly....I think once Ed spoke up as well, things on our side quietened down a fair bit in terms of pushing, - honestly, it was a tiny portion of an otherwise awesome crowd...... DOn't stress too much....

Regardless, people shouldn't be pushing past anyone to get to the front - 10C or not. Taking your spot in the crowd is the same as lining up in a queue. People can't just decide they deserve to be up the front if they get there later. Only excuse is if you are heading back to your original spot. You'll be able to tell if someone's legit or not. It's normally blokes just charging through and not caring that cause trouble. As long as we all stick together we'll be cool. From what I can see the Security is switched on to kicking dickheads out so we all just need to help them do that if someone is being an arsehole. Let's try and keep things as peaceful as possible, it's easy for something small to ruin a night.

I hear what you are saying but really you think seated floors at rock shows are the way forward?

Look at what seating at football did to the atmosphere of the English football stadium. It decimated it to a mere whisper. Of course making the game of football a corporate day out didnt help, any one wanting some evidence of this take a trip to Old Trafford - once upon a time a racous afternoon - and now almost libraryesque.

Rock shows are no different, the energy from GA shows feeds to the band, and the band thrive off it, have you heard the reports of how lame the crowds were in the states recently as compared to the Euro shows? There is no other reason than the GA status (and of course we are PJ starved mostly, and the Americans are given too mucyh PJ ;) ), this is emphasised by the two DVds touring band and Imagine in Cornice

So in a nutshell the actions of a few morons should not stop the overwhelming enjoyment of the majority.

Seating kills rock shows, for eg try sitting at a U2 show....you'll be tempted to read a book at the same time

Everyone listen up. I'm 5 ft 2" girl and was 10 deep in the pit, with ONE person looking out for me, which was NOT NEEDED all night.
There was NOTHING scary about it.
Sure people pushed through, but they could have been the diehard fans that needed to move through the ones happy to hang back, and thats cool.
Those few arseholes that barged, I figure KARMA will get them, so take DELIGHT in that.
If I could handle it easily, your all going to be fine.
Go with PJ in your heart and may The Rock be with you. :D:D:D

Ummm... the crowds were not lame in the States recently! Yes, okay, Seattle wasn't great (I was there), but I was also at Molson (reserved), SF Outside Lands (GA) and all 4 Philly shows (reserved) and the atmosphere was out of this world at those shows! In fact, the atmosphere was better at the reserved shows over the GA Outside Lands (granted, Outside Lands is a festival).

Personally I prefer reserved seating (and I don't have a good number) because I like my own space and to not be jostled... GA can tend to really stress me out, but Outside Lands was a good experience this year and there was no aggression, but I still would rather reserved.

Besides, you football hooligans over there needed calming down!!! ;) Different strokes.
Glaciers melting in the dead of night and the superstars sucked into the supermassive.

Thats cool, I just a heard a few boots where Eddie is havign a dig at the crowds....and i did read a shit load of comments on here about the crowds.

like I said before - for the perfect example check out the dvds i mention and the crowd interaction. It says it all really.

If you wanna go one step further check out the RATM dvd from their mexican shows. WOW. Thats crowd was moving alright, I tend to think the seating idea would have killed that show.

Seating is right for certain performances, theatre, solo shows, acoustic performances etc, but a rock and roll show or a punk show? not for me, but like you say different strokes. Even with GA, you can hang back and find plenty of space if you want it, its only really jostly and rammed right down the front.

I hate GA unless its a small venue-then I can dig it
    call me old whatever
but if the crowd is larger than say 3000, GA is a nightmare
I dont want to have to stand in one spot for hours on end-not that I will be sitting down
but I enjoy my reserved "space"

and I dont buy the band feeds off the energy BS-perhaps they do, but it doesnt necessarily equal a better concert-there have been plenty of kick ass energetic shows that were reserved-it depends on the crowd and the security

at a GA show...how do you go the the bathroom? get a beer? where's your tailgate experience all day long? that's part of the show routine which you can't get with GA shows, you need to line up and stand around all day long, waiting, while with seated shows you can do as you please all day long, then walk to your seat minutes before the show....much better option IMO.
