I bought  a newer version of Vs and it sounded terrible.  I think it was the boxed set version.  It was unlistenable.  Hopefully that version is better.

Reissue of Without a Net sounds very good. It’s not my favorite late Dead recordings but it’s well done.

It was $20 on clearance at Barnes & Noble. A no brainer pick up for a 3 LP set!

I already owned American II and IV, then V was on sale on Amazon for $13.90. Picked it up and promptly ordered I and III. Day after I posted these picks I decided to complete the American collection and ordered VI. Listening to all of them in order right now. While I get some might see V and VI being a bit of a posthumous cash grab, Im never going to complain about more material being released from this, his final era. Love what Rick Rubin was able to do with him.

Looping back to this as I’m just now finding time to spin this. Sounds really freakin’ fantastic. See why people were raving compared to the last pressing. It’s quiet, bold, punchy, and I’m noticing a few flourishes here and there that I’ve never heard before in 30 years of listening to VS. IMO it’s well worth the pickup.

apparently Under The Bridge is a song he basically forced the band to write/record/release. Incredible.

The new Rhino Hi Fi pressing of Paranoid sounds pretty damn beautiful. I wish I had the Vertigo pressing to compare. The numbered versions are sold out, but they will probably release the unnumbered soon.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was more still.  Rubin had said after June died all he(Cash) wanted to do was record.  I would imagine there is a bunch more to be released?

As far as I can tell, the numbered ones would just be earlier pressings. I haven't found anyone who has done a A/B comparison between the two. I'm glad I snapped up Paranoid. I missed out the the S/T numbered, but unnumbered is on the way. I'm really looking forward to hearing some of these other Rhino Hi Fi pressings. Actually feeling excited about records, again.

The guitar work on the whole record is phenomenal.  I think that's what Rubin really did to advance them as a band.  Before they were pretty hard core but he pushed them to bring more nuance into their playing, focus on the funk, and it was really spectacular.  Plus the ordering of the songs is top notch, feeling like a flow/concept album.  It just feel like a groove that keeps moving.

He is amazing. He also produced BloodSugarSexMagik   He completely changed the career trajectory of the Peppers.

Oooh, speaking of RHCP, I recently picked up a copy of Flea's memoir to add to my stack of "I can't wait to get to these books!":

Oh man, yes!  Cash, Cash, and more Cash!  Great records- wish I had them on vinyl, but the CDs do sound pretty good.

Yeah, Rubin is the man!  Love Cash's work with Petty, Campbell and Tench as well!

I can't imagine the hedonism of those fuckers during the 80s and 90s.

True. Strange how some live recklessly, live through it and become successful. Others try to do the right thing and die or get completely f..ked.

Remember the old saying that cigarettes take seven minutes of your life?

Someone once said that every time you smoke, Keith Richards gets those seven minutes.  I don't know how that guy is alive, but boy has he lived a good one.

I remember as a kid finding people that smoked attractive. Something about not giving a darn about yourself. What a dummy!
Light em if you got em.

Over the top, for sure.  But from a quick browse, my sense about this book is that it is kind of a "redemption" story by a man who went to some very unhealthy places physically, psychically, and spiritually, and lived and went on to become a much more quality human being.  And I believe there will be a follow up to this book.
