I gave my Portishead debut a proper clean up last month. Sounded pretty damn good - but I'm starting to regret my student days where I used to leave my records on the floor :?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo!
I used to steal records from people who did that because I felt that I could give them a better home.
Yeah, I feel bad now. It was mainly because I passed out in the middle of switching between sides two and three of Physical Graffiti - stuff like that. I regret it - especially as quite a lot of the vinyl shopping I do currently is for replacements!
My friend's dad is the uber hi fi buff / geek - he has an astromically priced turntable which I sometimes go and sample. One time I went round there with some records, and he was so disgusted that he threw me out - he looked at me like I had mugged an old lady. I'm better these days - I always keep them in their sleeves at least

before you buy more vinyl i would buy a new needle ...dont scratch that wax to death
I am starting to feel I should save up a bit of my vinyl money and get Live on Two Legs - I would love to hear that on vinyl. Actually I really should look at completing my Pearl Jam lp collection - my least favourite albums are Binaural and Pearl Jam, which are funnily enough the only two albums I've never played on vinyl (coincidence??)- Binaural was the first PJ LP which I didn't buy on vinyl when it came out - I had moved onto CDs for that dark phase of my life
Lost Dogs would be very nice too...... *sigh*

Ha! That's hilarious. I'm sure you weren't laughing at the time, though.
sorry, meant to reply to this - it was pretty funny actually! the guy's a complete eccentric, who I could tell all sorts of stories about - which I probably won't for his own protection! Around the time I was getting into vinyl we did a test of Joni Mitchell's Blue on his multi-thousand-dollar CD player, vs his multi-thousand-dollar turntable - needless to say, the record won. After it had finished we all had to sit in silence for about 5 minutes to catch our breath - it was like being on drugs. He's got so many records from the 60s and 70s - when I go round there I always ask him if he's noticed any spares recently, and inevitably come away with something good. He's the guy that gave me my mono doors original pressing, which he had two copies of! This has turned out to be my favourite copy of this album.
