Yeah it's a total classic but I like Monster and New Adventures in Hi-Fi best.
I would shell out some serious cash for those 2 R.E.M. albums on new vinyl
Well, yes new wouldn't be cheap, but managed to get these two bad-boy's a while back second hand for a fairly good price, great condition too...
you making me jealous again
lol
I have never seen them in a record store, but if I ever did I would snap both up

Haha, Smarchee pal you've posted some awesome records that have made me a bit jealous too! Just out of interest about how many records do you have now? You seem to get a hell of alot! You should post a pic of your record shelving too maybe...

I have been meaning to do a count and will get to it soon, currently alphabetizing my records as I go through them, was previously just putting the last one listened to at the end. I basically have 2 shelves a book shelf filled, so I am thinking around 200.
I will post a pic soon

Bought a new storage unit, Ikea Expedit. Then added some legs to it.
I've got those. It's like they were specifically made for vinyl. I really like them.
yup. they're awesome. we're going to get the medium sized one in red after we move. been wanting them for a long time. did they sell the legs at ikea or did you get them somewhere else? (great idea, btw)

Got the legs at Ikea, they come in 4 packs and are called Capita, they come in 8" and 6". The legs pictured are 6".
ok, had a series crisis here, I had my vinyl on the top 2 shelves of a book shelf and the 2nd one crashed and they all came tumbling down, bending lots of corners, fuck me. I took all the vinyl off the top shelf, so it looks like the vinyl on a book shelf is being axed. I will have to make a trip to ikea soon and get this, cause now I have my vinyl on in piles on the floor, while I try to bend back the ones most bent, what a piss off, grrrrrrrr

That's the one. this will make more sense when you actually see it but, the shelves of the unit are made up of a series a long boards and short boards. When you set it up, make sure the long boards are sitting horizontal and the short board are vertical...or else...
notice in the photos the short boards are set-up horizontally? Don't do that.
wow, thanks for the quick tip with the photographic evidence
I'll post in the thread when I get set-up, hopefully some time this week or Friday night

Screws should be visible on the top and bottom of the finished product. And please use those wall anchors that the instructions highly suggest!

Just out of curiosity what's people's thoughts on the whole 180gram vinyl thing??
I mean, I know these records are meant to have more detail in them, a fuller sound etc, but I've got quite a few of the older thinner vinyl, (100gram or whatever it is) and to be honest they sound just as good, if not better than the 180gram's that seem to be the norm on new releases.
Why is it supposedly so great to hear things on this thicker vinyl?? I just don't see what the big deal is... :problem:

I agree that the sound difference is negligible, if there is any at all (I don't hear it). What I hate about 180 is that albums are usually spread between 2 discs, and that is a pain in the ass.

I never knew that 180g was supposed to have better sound quality, unless you're factoring in the tracking issue that generally happens the closer you get to the middle of the record and the fact that like you say alot of 180g/newer records are doubles.
I always took the audiophile part in stuff like "audiophile 180g vinyl" to mean the actual vinyl and not necessarily the weight.

I'm hearing you on that, some newer albums are double discs with like 2 or 3 songs per side and they are just standard 4-5 minute long tracks...so what the hell?? I've got this old Supremes record with 10 songs per side, and on an old thin piece of wax...
