Wouldn't consider a 4.00 ERA to be bad at all, considering he's a rookie.

Even with the Yankees' offense, I'd still say he's having a pretty great first season.

Of course I'd rather have Lee right now, but it's a little ridiculous to compare them. Down the road who knows how good Nova will be. We still have to let him progress.

just pointing out that it's ridiculous to compare him to cliff lee.

guy looks pretty good for a rookie though....of course the phils have rookie who is 10-1 but with a 2.85 era. ;)

    Isn't league avg at 3.92? He's at 3.96
    here is where he ranks:

    52nd in era...
    113th in strikeouts...
    65th in whip...
    51st in baa...
    75th in k/9

lees is top 10 in all those except one.

sorry to hammer home a point. but you just cannot compare this guy to cliff lee. it is not even close.

Those are all good regular season numbers for a team that scores a million runs. I'd like one of you Yanks fans to tell me that you prefer Nova to Lee as a playoff starter.

Don't know why you both won't let this drop, it's pretty obvious that Lee's the better pitcher. Can we move on?

It was only about 3 posts really. This season is too long - need the playoffs to start.

I don't think people are comparing. not saying he's light out. But we'll take it for a rookie.

I remember that game, he was 5-for-5 in a 14-2 win. It was a week when the Yankees went from 80 to 90 wins by blowing everybody out.

That was a magical team. It seemed like every time they won, they blew someone out, even if it was close. Just the way they played made it seem like that.

i love reading stories about that season. they dropped their first 4 or 6 games of that season in embarrassing fashion?

cone stepped up in the locker room after the losing streak and tore everyone a new asshole. from that point forward they put together the best record baseball as ever seen (at the time of course).

Yeah, they played like the worst team you can possibly see play those first games.

It still is the best record in baseball that'll probably never be broken, 125-50.

if you include post season. but i think seattle beat them out for the best regular season record sometime in the early 2000's?

Yeah, 2001, but Seattle tied the Cubs' record for most regular season wins.

  • 1906 Cubs were 116-36. But lost WS to the hitless wonders - the White Sox. Imagine that.

As great as that 1998 team was, you have to admit the 2000 team probably ranks in the bottom 5 of all-time World Champions. I was at the game when they "clinched" the division (i.e. by having the crappy Red Sox lose while they were getting blown out in Camden Yards). As strong as the AL East is these days, it was shitty that year. But, they still won it, so I gotta give 'em credit.
