You don't care much for the new one?? I've noticed some Crowes fans aren't up on it. Is it the real folk infusion?
I still need to get Three Snakes, By Your Side, and Lions!
might be. i like when wilco does the country rock thing, but for some reason the crowes don't seem to pull it off as well. i like them at their best doing the hard rock thing. i love a good jam band, but they're headed into phish territory.
warpaint was fucking awesome though.
I hear ya, I often miss the Crowes laying down just hard rock n' roll...but I've been able to adjust to the new vibes. Agreed that Warpaint was a home run.
phish territory?? don't see that one. i think there evolving splendidly
Wow, dcfaithful, surprising to hear that you don't have Three Snakes or By Your Side... You're right in saying you need to get them.
Lions is my least favorite too, but there are some good tunes on there. I've always liked Greasy Grass River's vibe and I dig Midnight From the Inside Out too.
And I freaking love Before The Frost... notice that I left off Until The Freeze... I don't dislike 'side 2' but I think the first half of the album is classic Crowes, with some disco boogie thrown in. Good Morning Captain, Appaloosa, Been A Long Time, Make Glad, What Is Home, I Ain't Hiding, I love 'em all...
Next to Southern Harmony, Before The Frost is my favorite Crowes record...

I know man, I really need to get on it...I've listened to them all front to back, but just don't own them...been kind of hard to come by out here believe it or not. The selection of music stores in the north suburbs of SLC sucks...the only thing is Graywhale...or Wal-Mart (which I refuse to shop at).

downloading not an option? that must suck not having a good music store. there are a couple decent ones here in orlando, but phoenix had a bunch of GREAT record stores, lots and lots of vinyl and used stuff to choose from. i miss those shops... so i feel your pain.

Downloading is an option, but because the Crowes are my favorite band aside from PJ I like to get hard copies...vinyl stores are here, but in the city which isn't a problem. The music stores here aren't bad, but I usually find myself having to look around more than I should in order to find what I'm looking for.

probably a dumb question, but is warpaint live a good dvd? is it as good as or better than freak n roll?
i've listened to the album coutnless times on imeem.com, sounds fantastic. I've yet to see the dvd, if you see it before I do, please let me know what it's like! I'll probably buy it within the end of the year, but I'm really looking forward to the Cabin Fever DVD to be released on the 24th.

There was another thread about this somewhere in here, but I recently got it.
It is great, but different than Freak 'n' Roll. You can see the light show. They play Warpaint straight through with a couple of older songs and some covers. It has one of the best versions of Bad Luck Blues Eyes I have heard. If you like the Crowes and were a fan of Warpaint, you'll love it.

For added effect, here's a video of the European leg of the same tour. When you're listening to NSNS on the High In Houston boot, you can hear the crowd roar right as the main riff kicks in (after the 'intro)... This video will show you what they were seeing... I remember this as the beginning of the show in Austin too and it was a great effect... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl6Hi4Utuyo

Word.

That footage is incredible. I remember that cargo-netting with the light bulbs stage set up they had back then.
I need to track down some more good pro-shot footage and more older boots. Are there any others as good of a quality as that Houston one? From the 92-94 era? There are older shows on liveblackcrowes.com I know but I haven't seen any prior to 1996.
I had one on a tape from 1993 from the Greek in LA, that was soundboard quality. Haven't been able to find a copy online though.
An ideal setlist for me....November 17th, 2009 Seattle, WA:
Good Morning Captain
Nebakenezer
Gone
Make Glad
Seeing Things
What Is home
Appaloosa
Wiser Time
I Ain't Hiding
Houston Don't Dream About Me
Sting Me
Sometimes Salvation
Jealous Again
Been A Long Time (Waiting On Love)
- encore -
Feathers
Don't Do It
GMC, Wiser Time, Appaloosa, Sting Me, Sometimes Salvation, Seeing Things, GONE!!!

yeah, that is a pretty phenomenal setlist... damn...
by the way, slight annoyance with the liveblackcrowes.com site. i've been checking my mailbox all week waiting for my cd, but it took them 5 business days just to send me an email saying that my order was being processed. i suppose 10c has spoiled me, but i was kinda annoyed just because i'm so eager to hear the show i was at...
anyway... moving on

there's plenty of stuff on youtube, but i don't know where to get a copy of a full show... as far as soundboard older shows, i'm still searching. i don't think liveblackcrowes.com has any older than 96, as you mentioned. if you go to crowesbase and search by source and choose fm live, that brings up a list of shows that were broadcast live, presumably soundboard quality. but i haven't found digital copies yet. if any of us find what we seek, i vote that we post links here and share. deal?

Sounds good. Crowesbase forum also has a trading thread with links to torrents.
I've given up on torrents. I honestly don't think I'd notice the difference in quality and I use an iPod, so I want mp3s... I tried a hundred times to figure the torrent thing, but I simply don't get it. Just fyi, as the bootleg sites I will be visiting will be geared more towards mp3 collectors like myself...

Have you gotten any of these yet? I've had that 1994 Taller bootleg before. It sounds like it is part soundboard, part audience.
Oh, and torrent is just a method of downloading, a tool for file sharing. You can get torrents of MP3s as well as FLAC etc. I usually download the FLAC then convert to MP3 and on the iPod it goes.
OK, thanks for that site. Those two 1991 boots are fucking excellent sound quality. The Hard to Handle boot is the one I had on tape long ago and lost. Wow! Thanks for posting that site!!

i am convinced torrents are some big practical joke and that anyone who claims to use them to actuall download music is in on it and just laughing at those of us trying to make this absurd, impossible system work.

Here is the thread:

Haven't been able to find a copy online though.

by the way, slight annoyance with the liveblackcrowes.com site. i've been checking my mailbox all week waiting for my cd, but it took them 5 business days just to send me an email saying that my order was being processed. i suppose 10c has spoiled me, but i was kinda annoyed just because i'm so eager to hear the show i was at...
anyway... moving on
there's plenty of stuff on youtube, but i don't know where to get a copy of a full show... as far as soundboard older shows, i'm still searching. i don't think liveblackcrowes.com has any older than 96, as you mentioned. if you go to crowesbase and search by source and choose fm live, that brings up a list of shows that were broadcast live, presumably soundboard quality. but i haven't found digital copies yet. if any of us find what we seek, i vote that we post links here and share. deal?
i am starting here... there are links at the bottom of each setlist, so hoping the links are live and the recordings are soundboard...
Sounds good. Crowesbase forum also has a trading thread with links to torrents.

Have you gotten any of these yet? I've had that 1994 Taller bootleg before. It sounds like it is part soundboard, part audience.
Oh, and torrent is just a method of downloading, a tool for file sharing. You can get torrents of MP3s as well as FLAC etc. I usually download the FLAC then convert to MP3 and on the iPod it goes.

i am convinced torrents are some big practical joke and that anyone who claims to use them to actuall download music is in on it and just laughing at those of us trying to make this absurd, impossible system work.
Amen, I've never been able to figure out torrents. Are they idiot-proof or is this just some giant gag?
