Why is it that Yankee fans use the argument that they have so many homegrown players on their team as proof that they don't BUY success? Wouldn't that suggest that you have the money to retain these players, and then support them with really good free agents? I mean if Montreal could have kept their players in the 90's wouldn't we still have two Canadian baseball teams? What about the Indians who have a ton of their players littering the rosters of various playoff teams? Yes you buy success, why don't you revel in it...that's the best part about rooting for a rich team
but those teams rarely make an effort to keep their developed players. teams like the pirates and other teams get revenue sharing and it rarely goes back into the team and when they do spend it's often poorly. just because you have the ability to retain guys and sign others doesn't guarantee anything. if it was so easy, then the yankees would have won in the years when they wasted money on the carl pavanos, jaret wrights, tony womacks and kyle farnsworths.

I didn't say that it was easy to win it all, but it's quite clear that if you can and do choose to keep your core intact and supplement them with good players success usually follows. Just because they haven't won the World Series doesn't mean they haven't achieved a level of success (not going to the playoffs once in 15 years isn't bad).
Look at the teams in the Playoffs this year...the Sox, Yanks, Dodgers, Rockies, Phillies, Twins, Angles, and Cards all have strong core players that have created a certain level of chemistry within the clubhouse and, with the exception of the Twins, have been supplemented with signing good free agents. All those teams besides the Twins and Rockies have big money too. I'm betting if the Mets are able to keep their guys healthy and together for another year (like their 4th full together) they'll put it together just as everyone thinks they are done (like the Cards this year). Of course betting on the Mets is a crazy thing to do so I'll stop there.
agree, and the yanks have a great core of home grown talent in all the right places.
middle infield is locked up with home grown, catcher, centerfielder, closer, set up man (2 if you count joba in the playoffs), top 3 starter.
it's easy for the haters to not see past the big contracts of arod, tex, cc. but hey, those are the guys that the yankee management was able to sprinkle on top of the home grown core. and all three of those guys had beefy offers from teams all over the league, so people shouldn't act like the yanks were the only ones willing to spend that amount of cash. hell, how close was arod from going to the sox with an unprecedented contract?
I still find it really funny that someone being so anti-Yankee has a screename named "Darth" since we allegedly are the "Evil Empire"...
you don't get why someone could possibly hate the yankees, irrespective of their screen name?
*sigh*
that is why you fail...
haha no, i get it. i'm well aware of the power of the dark side, and the connection between vader and the evil empire. i'm probably one of the biggest star wars nerds on here.
and uhm yeah. "that is why you fail" was yoda talk back the poster. hence the winky.
