The 2009 Let's Beat the Yankees Thread

This thread is devoted to all persons who wish to see the Yankees lose. No matter who you normally root for during the regular season can we not all agree that the Yankees must be destroyed? Twins fans, Tigers fans, Red Sox fans, Dodgers fans—whoever, we must unite. All differences must be put aside for the greater good!

Rest assured if my Twins fail to take down the Yanks in the ALDS I will root for whoever plays against them next.

I don't know, a lot of my friends that are Red Sox fans have actually become worse than Yankees fans over the last few years.

honestly, if you have a team you pull for still left in the playoffs, you worry about your team ... not other teams.

Remember last year Sox fans when we thought it was going to be a cake walk into the series because the Yankees weren't in the playoffs? How did that work out for us?

Also, wasn't 2004 that much more special because the Sox went through the Yankees in a little thing we like to call THE GREATEST COMEBACK IN BASEBALL HISTORY!!!

Agian, let's focus our energy on handling the Angels ... whomever lands in our way next, so be it.

I heard that Brian Duensing prepared for his start today by going over the Yankees lineup with Rick Anderson and Joe Mauer. CC Sabathia prepared for his start today by eating 14 Bacon Lovers Red Baron pizzas.

Brian Duensing should probably try to do more of whatever CC does to prepare for his starts.

    and....what an original joke.

While I agree he's been amazing, to think he's going to pitch 200 quality innings a year between now and 2015 is a bit much.

Still, if he gets the Yanks at least one championship, I'm sure they'll say the contract was justified.

In a whopping sample size of 5 games, with 1 of those after he was abused down the stretch. He will have plently of starts in the coming years to bring that number down.
  • Sabathia is a good pitcher. It just doesn't change the fact that he's an giant tub of lard. It's testament to his talent (and the game of baseball) that he's had as much success as he's had.

At the very least he should straighten his cap. That crooked look just makes him look like a tool but he's a Yankee so maybe it makes sense.

Don't know what Red Sox fans you were talking to, but speaking as a Sox fan myself, I envisioned no such cake walk last year, if the Yankmes were the ones in the ALCS and not the Rays, it probably would have been a cake walk. Rays had the Sox number all of last year, and they were a great team, all the right buttons were pushed. But if you told me the Sox would came back from down 3 to 1 against the Rays and lose game 7 I would have said bullshit, doesn't happen anymore, especially with Lester on the mound, but that was my one overconfidence in the playoffs last year.

Also for 200 million dollars, the least the fans should have is a World Series.

The Yankees are making the Twins look like a AAA team tonight. At least AJ Burnett gets the ball Friday, he's prone to having a bad game.

As long as the Red Sox WIN and move forward in the playoffs and couldn't careless what the Yanks do. However, they lose the series to the Twins I certainly won't be crying.

for the record, I picked Tampa to be in the world series last year ... before the season started (on this very message board).

but, there's no way you think the majority of sox fans were just as worried about the Rays heading into the 2008 ALCS as they were the Yankees in 2003 or 2004.

    do you watch baseball?

who gives a damn how big he is? no one cared how big david wells was when he pitched a perfect game and won a world series. likewise, no one cared how fat david ortiz was when he beat the yanks.

you my friend, should be much more concerned with the outcome of the game and less with the weight of the pitcher or the way he wears his hat. duensing only weighs 195 and wears his brim curved, but i think i would prefer the big guy with a straight brim on the mound.

how about that preparation as well? keep talking shit....

You are right, but it still feels weird to call this a sport and CC an 'athlete' when that fat ass motherfucker is out there wobbling around the mound and yet performing at the highest possible level, as defined by baseball/pitching terms and standards..

Rough loss but the Twins played a pretty good game in the early goings. After the craziness of last night and the rookie pitcher going I figured this would be a tough one to get. No matter. I read somewhere that the "Twins have their backs against the wall now." What horseshit. It's a best of 5 so let's even this sucker up on friday.

How can you not love the Twins? They are a real team, not a cobbled together collection of all-stars who blanket themselves with a pretentious aura of entitlement and "mystique". With the Yankees it's not so much winning a game as it is cashing in your chips. It's so fucking perfunctory and boring.

When it comes to conditioning Sabathia makes David Wells look like Cal Ripken. That perfect game wasn't that special: I could've thrown a perfect game against the 1998 Twins.
