What about going to an employment staffing office? I went to one and temped for a few weeks, they liked me so much they trained me on their software and I got hired on as soon as my temp contract was done. Lots of bigger companies hire this way instead of posting on job sites. Didn't have to go back to school.

not speaking for NAIS but my own issue with job seeking is actually finding the employment staffing agency. If you ever just google employment agency or staffing agency it's just a bunch of spam.

i've never thought of that, actually. i just don't know what i would be good at. i'm 25 and have no idea what i want to do with my life. i'm grateful to have 2 jobs right now, both in retail, but i'm not happy. it's absolutely frustrating.

I understand your frustrations! I hate retail! I got out as fast as I could. The staffing agency I went to asked me, if I was interested in labor or office work, then they had me take a few competency tests to see what I was good at...not so much dictation/typing, but I was fast at 10-key and sorting, so they found a job working in the mail room at a corporate office, I got hired to do data entry. Try to look into it, even the unemployment office, I realize you are not unemployed, but they have free resources and job postings there as well. You are young, so some companies may be willing to train you on the job.

This is the company I used: http://www.adeccousa.com/
They may or may not have local chapters/offices in your area...but it doesn't hurt to submit your info and see what happens.

    Good Luck!

just had to reread your message to get the gist of it
thats pretty lucky for you to get that job but wouldnt you
rather pick what you wanted first to get in line with what you wanted
or do you just put your hopes in any basket

You cannot just pick wherever you want to work. It is the employment agency's job to match your skills to the job openings the companies are offering.

I wasn't putting all of my hopes in any basket, I wanted to work to be a contributing member of society, and to make money. Most employers like to hire people that have job experience, when you have enough experience, then you can try to apply for the job that you really want.

I agree with RK. In the past I have worked at a couple of different temp agencies, and they give you a skills assessment when you go for an interview. I found work through both Normann Temps and Manpower. At each of the jobs that I was placed, they wanted to hire me full time. The upside is: if you don't like the job, you can ask the agency to find you something else, or you can just ride it out, knowing it is temporary.

Picking what you want to do and then searching for that work is often how people end up unemployed and looking for work for years on end.

I'm going to start a collection of scratch off tickets that are one away from winning big. And in a few years I'm going to frame them and have my very first gallery show.
