We're not going to hell in a hand basket, according to Natural Hunka Kaboom, we're going "kerflooey." From Ohio.com:

    Kaboom looks above
Kaboom, 68, made headlines in 2012 when he left his metal walking stick that bears his name in City Hall, causing an evacuation after city officials thought it might be a pipe bomb. He said he wants to be known as the “unconventional candidate,” and won’t be posting signs or assembling a campaign committee. His campaign consists of one other being: “The Lord.”
His chances of winning with such a minimalist strategy? “By what I’ve been told by the Lord, 100 percent.”

Kaboom said his future was made known to him through visions. “I had no intentions, none, zero intention, of running for mayor,” he said. “I’m living on Social Security … but I feel like a rich man. When you have the Lord on your side, it doesn’t matter how much money anybody has against you. When the Lord wants something done, he wants it done, and he’s told me in so many words he wants me to be mayor of Akron. And I’ve learned over the years, every time I don’t listen to what the Lord says, it goes kerflooey.”
He ended up being Mayor though right?

He's running for mayor. We had one mayor resign/retire. He's been in office for a very long 28 years. The council president was mayor for a whole week and a half. Now Kaboom wants a crack at it. If he wins, I think Susan will come down for his swearing in.

Yup. Because he was so attentive to his job, my water bill is going to more than double. Why? Back in the 80's, yes-- 80's, he was told that the infrastructure for the water needed to be updated. He was told this by the government who said that they give money to help defray costs. He decided to hold off, hold off and hold off longer. Well, now EPA mandates no longer allow the delay so that entire cost is now being laid on the tax payers. Nice. There's other crap, too. That's the most recent. Rrrr.

His real name is Michael Bloomberg. He earned the nicknames Miguelito And/or Bloombito cuz he insisted on reading the Spanish translation of his statements in terrible, terrible Spanish. Like seriously awful.

Ahh ok. Our Mayor really is named Hickenlooper. He was totally against thE retail sales of pot in Colorado til he saw DENVER and Pueblo make like 17 & 24 million dollars in just one year.. Suddenly he's all for it! I wish Colorado Springs would pass it, maybe we could get some road maintenance done!! The pot holes are quickly becoming sink holes!

A good thing? Physical therapy! It sucks when you are in it, but the payoff is delightful in the end.

I'm not sure about this. When I tried to go to the store I could not walk. It was so bad I called the urgent care place to ask if it's something I could go there for or if i'd have to go to the ER. I decided to leave it until morning to see if it went away. I went to meet my friend and I had to walk the whole way grabbing on to buildings and fences. I say whole way, but it's only three blocks. I am going to have a word with them about this tomorrow.

Wow. That is a weird story. I'm sure that claiming a heritage/culture/race as your own happens, but this one is a bit more odd than I'm used to seeing. I didn't read the extending article about her parents, but do wonder what made them finally blow the whistle on her?

My daughter has the annual teachers vs 5th graders kick ball game. She's small for her age and young for her class. She was a late developer in the motor milestones arena. (Didn't walk until 17 months but was stringing multiple signs together to communicate at 6 months and talking full sentences at a year). She's just naturally laid back and a slow, peaceful mover. She rocks at yoga and was thrilled to finish our 5k under 45 minutes. unfortunately, she believes what the other kids have so perfectly taught her and that is... She's not athletic, she sucks at team sports and no one wants her on their team. :anguished: She is dreading the game despite liking to play. I had the same experience growing up and it took me until well into adulthood stop the negative self talk and to find my inner athlete. I don't want her to experience the same. SHE gets to decide who she is. They don't get to define her. FUCK them!!! I told her so before she got out of the car. She was like...OMG, Ok Mom got it... and off she went. I don't know if she got it. Please God let Selma kick that damn ball right over the heads of all those little shits!!

I was the same way! It took getting hit in the for head with a softball four separate times for my dad to quit signing me up for sports! I'm just not sporty.. But when I got into track and field? I rocked! Just let her know, her strong suit is out there! She just has to be curious enough to find out what it is, on her own terms! GO SELMA!

I agree - I was small and slight (still am) and a bit intimidated in team sports when I was young so I also internalized the "not an athlete" talk, even though I was good at running and at some other individual sports. It wasn't until my late teens that I started hiking and realized that individual sports in the outdoors are where my talents lie - hiking, cycling, rock climbing, paddle-boarding, kayaking, all of which require more strength and endurance than batting a volleyball about for 45 minutes in a gym. shetellsherself, I hope you can help her realize her talents early on without her having to go through some of these less pleasant stages of childhood.
