band: emotional, but sloppy show by Ed. he really bounced from deeply emotional to energetic from song to song. screwed up a bunch of lyrics, but that's kind of expected considering how much variety these setlists have and how little they have been touring since 2006. I was expecting a very somber show for a reason which I wont discuss. Long Road, Come Back and Man of the Hour, you could see they were difficult.

10C seats: everyone was further back than they usually are, which is not surprising since this was the only US show for a long time, it was a Sunday, and there were a lot of family & friends there probably. a friend with a 90K number was about 14th row. the people who posted that they got seats behind the stage were FOS. there were no seats behind the stage. we were 20th row with 128xxx, and I think the cutoff was right about there. numbers after that started at the wing sections. the cool part was that I think the floor was elevated a bit, because I could see the tops of the heads of people in the first 10 rows.

overall, great show! the setlist really did it for me. how these guys do it 4 or 5 days a week is beyond me, especially Ed. nice to see Santos as well. I think he'll have a much better Monday.

    see you all tomorrow.

    nice show

nice find on the Richter Story, that makes much more sense than the Hockey Goalie I thought it was.

there were shit loads of out of towners at this show, they may have run out of floor ten club seats and had to go upper level to accommodate them. I am normally 4-6th row in Chicago and was 11 tonight (not complaining just saying there were lots of people here tonight). I think a lot of mid-westerners were there from MI, IN, OH, IA, WI as well. I met several people from New York tonight.

As for the show, band was in gerat form tonight save some lyric flubs and a few moments of feedback. Ed sounded great, and the solos Mike was ripping off were great. Jeff was playing his ass off tonight. Some nice surprises in the set, Long Road was great to hear as Release is the usual Chitown 1 openener. Ed'd botox reference to MJ was funny.

Only celebrity I saw was Matt Pinfield, the old Mtv VJ from Headbangers ball

Mike enjoyed watching bad religion from the side of the stage for most of their set.

Biggest error of the night was BR and PJ saying it had been 13 years since they last player here together, last time I checked 7-11-95 was 14 years, but hey they have played so many shows since then I can understand getting mixed up.

Supersonic was pretty wicked, and fixer was wayyy better live.

overall a nice performance PJ has come to make us expect over the years

Just got home. Combined with my 10Club seats being top row nose bleeds, my back was actually against the wall and the fact that PJ's catalogue is HUGE and these were the songs played I was actually disappointed. I was expecting more for Chicago.

    Oh well.

You had ten club seats and they were nose bleed? Even if you have only been in the club since 2007 you should have still been on the floor. I think you did something wrong.

You think joining in 2007 will get you on the floor in Chicago??? You are nuts.
My number is 177xxx, I been in since 98 and I was in 122 row 13 on the side. GREAT seats and not on the floor.
Do you realize how many 10c people came in from out of town for tonight? A TON.

Yeah my seats were pretty far back in section 305...

...but the show was absoutly amazing!

Am I the only one who got tears in my eyes when Long Road opened?

I was in section 301 with my 10c tickets. I was a little surprised when I picked them up, but I didn't mind actually. I'm super pregnant (due in 4 weeks) and being up high where when I had to sit to prevent from dying, I could still see. Nice to be able to do that in my situation, but the people around us spent the whole time bitching about the seats. Can't win the lotto every time people...

I liked the set. It was smooth and seemed to flow well in my mind. I thought Eddie sounded really good. Wish I could go tomorrow, but the show tonight nearly did me in. Enjoy it for those who go!

Got some if you need it.

I did that song. Fixer was cool. Supersonic suprised me. Hopefully they will play it again tommorrow.

The bottle passsing was pretty cool.

Saw lots of EV solo shirts. I didn't see anybody with my shirt. 2000 Binaural shirt.

Tommorrow should be even better as i move down from 302 row 4 to 122 row 19. both non 10c tickets

Bad Religion was pretty cool. I really dug the earth song.

I like the new stickman shirt with Chicago 2009 on the back. Very simple. I like it. Thought about getting a backspacer shirt tho.

Beer sales stopped way to early.

That pretty much sums up the night. A good time was had by all, except the complainers.

See you fuckers tommorrow at the preparty. :

First off, there were a TON OF 10CLUB FANS!!

I am 15X,XXX and I had 100 level seating, while my sister was 2XX,XXX and she had 300 level.

Everyone around both of us were from out of town. Minnesota, Indy, and just all over. Thats why everyone was pushed back, this was the midwest's only show. But, it did suck to see people in front of my sister with ticketmaster print out tickets that werent 10club. We all know that the 10club tries their hardest, so lets not try to blame them.

But, the show was awesome, it really looked like the band enjoyed to be out of tour. Lots of energy, looked like the 90s again. Lots of kids and babies on the sidestage, band getting older, wives and kids backstage. Ed even gave his kid a kiss during the evenflow solo. Very cool to see the band mature.

RATS WAS AWESOME!!!! Also, I dont think ive ever seen PJ with the entire crowd into all of the songs. Must be the high 10club crowd. Love Reign O'er Me was very good, they must of practiced it a lot, its sounded great.

The Fixer and Got Some were also very good, Supersonic was new and sounded good too. But, Fixer and Got Some ROCKED!! It was weird to not have a tour fully promoting the new album though. I wish this was after the release.

Good show, I rate it a A- the minus is because it is before the album release and too many 10clubers pushing everyone back to the 300 level.

  • Great show and set. Needle and the Damage Done was sweet, as were the Who covers and Smile.

Sucks that a bunch of us fan clubbers were in the 300s (305, 2nd row, seats 1 and 2 for me). Sound was a bit muddy up there. Hopefully tomorrow night we'll be closer.

    Falling asleep...

Great show. Diverse setlist. Left the venue pumped for tomorrow. Fixer was great live. Got Some is amazing live. Supersonic has some serious potential to be a PJ favorite. Real Me was awesome, Sad was played perfectly... Eddie did mess up a bunch of the songs. Life Wasted was butchered, but he acknowledged it. Can't wait for tomorrow.

I've a 278xxx member, and was 103 level. As much as it matters that you have a membership and renew every year, I think it also may matter if you use your membership for means of than just tickets.... bootlegs, clothing, albums, LPs, goodies, etc. Just a thought...

I expected a lot of 10 clubbers because of the way the show was announced. First clue I underestimated the number anyway was the long lines to pick up tickets. My seats were section 103 far end from the stage in the corner with 10c number 276xxx. Definitely a LOT farther away than usual and for most bands frequently could be had for less than face value. Course this ain't most bands. Checking with a few of the people around me they all had similar numbers and had come from all corners of the country. So not surprised there were some 300 level 10c tix. Hopefully not all of you are coming back Monday.

I imagine Chicago will be included again next year when a fuller size tour comes around and we will see less out of towners and more typical seats. Better to look at it as a bonus to get these shows with lesser seats on top of probable future shows than to look at it as just a lost opportunity to be closer for this one. Hats off to 10c for being able to accomodate so many 10 clubbers it definitely showed in the crowd during the show.

Of the new songs I really liked THe Real Me better than The Fixer and Got SOme. MOre pumped for the new CD now

awesome setlist..i've got a hight 10C number so i wasn't suprised when i saw i was in the 300 level. Mike was ripping thought stuff, crowd was pretty loud. Eddie mentioned how they really wanted to be playing at alpine but for some reason they couldn't. can't wait for tomorrow.

I think jeff definitely will be signing them. That's what it sounded like in the subset sale. It said guest artist, and they usually sign.

I had 13xxxx and was directly side stage in 120 row 10. Not the greatest but seeing where others were I can't complain. Hopefully less 10c tomorrow.

Don't know why 10c wouldn't pull those seats in the 100's and give them to club members and leave tm with the 300's to sell. Very strange.

Stone was also out in the back of boom's set up watching bad religion, where no one could see him.

BR Were the best opener PJ has had in a while...

Also, there seemed to be an endless supply of posters tonight... After BR they were still available. How many do they print for each show? Tomorrow will prob be a Klausen as tonights poster was dated for the 23rd only...

what a show! can't believe I met pjsteelerfan and luvistower! great people and a kickass setlist!
  • Great show!

Ed's opening words told the story of this show. Definitely some deep emotions being felt by the band and then the crowd. Long Road is always a stunning opening. Makes me feel temporary, brief, but ultimately part of something larger. The second Jeff took the mike with his request I could feel the sorrow emanating from him and it immediately had me thinking of a friend I had lost recently (If I'm understanding the situation correctly, the poster from the show holds deep meaning). Come Back had me in tears. I don't cry much but it came and couldn't control it, so glad to be there in that moment even with the sadness.

From there the show went to great heights for me. Performances of Sad, Love Reign, and Smile were greatly affecting. I'm stunned with pleasure to be able to experience these musical heights with the band and the fans. Tomorrow will be the icing on the cake! Thank you Pearl Jam and friends!

Been to over 20 shows and this was one of the best crowds i have seen (very vocal). See you tomorrow!!!

PS-Great job by Foxymop & Dirty Tom for putting together a great preparty. Talked to the bartenders and they said they had over 350 people at one time before the show. Also, a lot of high fan club numbers were in the 300 level. It felt like 80% fan club at the show. Ed sounded great!!!

There was a little girl milling about just off of Stone's side of the stage. During Even Flow (which was a ripping version that seemed to be like 7 or 8 minutes long), eV went to that side of the stage for a cigarette break. When he was done with his smoke he gave the little girl a kiss on the head before he went back out to finish the song (which was still going on). Really sweet to see.

Ament was pretty emotional when he took the mike to ask the crowd to sing "Happy Birthday." After looking at the links others provided it seems obvious why. Condolences.

RVM was extraordinary! I just don't know how to describe it. Passionate and intense. Same with Alive. Just plain fantastic.

The Who covers were killers. The band sounded so tight during these (and the rest of the set for that matter).

    Got Some destroyed! Matt ruled!

The dude next to me told me he came from New York. He was so drunk that he didn't realize that he was tapping me on the shoulder approx every 45 seconds to ask me for something or insult me because of where I'm from during Bad Religion's set. He was semi-conscious and seated by the time PJ was halfway done with their first set. Then he disappeared and was gone for the rest of the show. Good riddance. Hope he feels better tomorrow and doesn't regret missing a phenomenal show too much.

**Edit. When talking about Michael Jackson after coming out for the first encore, eV prefaced his cover of "Needle and the Damage Done" by saying that although he was lost recently "...it felt like we lost him a long time ago." A lot of people in the audience around me agreed with this sentiment.**

I never understood why people feel the need to get smashed at these shows. That said, there's only ever a handful of them at most shows (non-festival), but they always stand out. In the off chance I can make some of these shows, I am NOT wasting it..er..wasted! ;-)

So what are we going to get tonight. My normal Crazy Mary and all the pretty ballads???? Needle and damage done!!! Was that acoustic>>>?
Maybe they will cover Radiohead song or something unique or better yet play the entire new album.
I am bumming as Smile and Why go are two other favs... U lucky folks.
    @ and less members tonight....

Lucky boys and girls last night.
