Has anyone got anything on the London preshow meet up/drinks?

I know that Manchester is sorted but i'm not too familiar with Greenwich and quite a few peeps have asked whats going on... So, any ideas?

If somewhere is sorted or if you do know of a pub we could *ahem* take over, please post so we can arrange summat :D

Only 29 days to go people!!
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

The O2 isn't near anywhere. So the options are that there are bars IN the O2 ... people can take drinks and kind of picnic/sit outside the O2 ...there's an area/walkway that's covered if it rains .. or chose a tube stop on the Jubilee line and meet in a pub near there :?

I've never done pre-drinks for the O2 so am not a huge amount of help :P
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

I've never even been to the O2 so i'm probably even less help!!

I think the liquid picnic idea is good but we'd have to check see if the council will allow that cuz we have places similar in Coventry but if you get caught drinking on them, you're buggered (not literally).

I'll check out pubs on le Jubilee line... :geek:

Somewhere cheap would be good, but that is unlikely being in London!

Yeah I know, I am not much help but I really don't know that area at all.
    Astoria 20/04/06, Leeds 25/08/06, Prague 22/09/06, Wembley 18/06/07,
    Dusseldorf 21/06/07, Manchester 17/08/09, London 18/08/09, LA 06/10/09, LA 07/10/09.

Ain't gonna be any middle anymore.
  • I agree on the cheap front... I shall investigate the pubs on the Jubilee line later, I was just hoping that someone knew something...

You two are bloody useless!!

Hey, I helped with the Manchester drinks, it's up to the peeps down south to decide on this one 8-)

couple of people were drinking brandy in the queue for KOL last year, with the security people right there, so they obviously have no problems ;)
Even places that are supposedly 'drink free' in London, as long as you're relaxed about it and don't make a mess, they live you alone.

I don't want to leave it too late to pick up tickets though, because form the mess that was the queue for NIN, might not get in before well after doors open otherwise.

Standard Lite last month had a little section on "Eat tonight... at a pub with a barbecue" and mentioned The Gun pub:
    A Grelha

Overlooking the Thames and the O2 arena, A Grelha is an alfresco bar that forms part of The Gun pub. The Portuguese food is cooked on a huge outdoor grill and includes classic dishes such as cataplana (£15) and chicken piri-piri and chips (£12.50). If you are after good views, good food and jolly good fun, this is the spot for you.

    27 Coldharbour, E14 (020 7515 5222)

sounds noncey but could be good. no idea which side of the river it is though!
Oh yeah? Well, I've had about enough of morons and halfwits, dolts, dunces, dullards and dumbbells - and you chowderhead yokel, you blithering hayseed, you - you've had enough of me?

After doing my own research and talking to a couple of my friends in London, the cheap way to go is to find a Sam Smith's pub. They serve their own line of products (alcohol and non) and you pay a whole lot less. You won't find your average run of the mill beers like Carlsberg etc etc, but who cares...it's cheap! And some appear to have great atmospheres. I don't know how convenient it would be (most of them are concentrated in SoHo)...but something cheap does exist!

Here is a map of all their locations:

Good call, we always go to the The Glasshouse Stores when in London for the cheap booze, they have a really nice stout.

this thread will garner about as much interest as an Icelandic bank account.

London's shit.. i'm dismantling one of the many pubs in my tiny hometown, bringing the fucker down on the train and then i'll re-assemble it right next to the O2 place... i'll even charge normal Scotland pint prices.

    orrrrr

i might just hang out with a bottle of red wine.

    whatever is the least hassle.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

I beginning to agree with you... this seems more hassle than it's worth :?

This the bestest pub I've been to in London, really excellent, an unrivalled selection of guest ales, plus all the favourites.
Also on the upside, you get served by chirpy ladies who sound like they're out of Eastenders, rather than the rest of the pubs in London where you get served by Australians, Kiwis or Polski's . Not that there's owt wrong with any of them, just it's nice to have some good ol' fashioned London-ish types once in a while

It's near the tube, wouldn't be good to stay there too late, but fine for a few jars in the arvo :D

i like the look of that one

i dont like any kinda weird gastropub shite that serves Pimms and crap.

i want real ale served by women with proper accents and they also have a cleavage so large that i could park a yacht in it... is that such a difficult request?

Jamie's pub looks good, but do we want one near(er) the O2 if possible (i know it's only a couple of stops on the Jubilee line) ? suppose we need more details of how the 10c ticket collection will work as well...

The Market Porter is a gem, one of the best kept secrets in London town......so I'm told. I went there in March before Metallica, with a couple of pals for the afternoon Guinness session. One is an old Londoner, he took us there.
It's like 3 stops from the O2....unfortunately that day the Jubilee line was closed so we got a cab, which was a bad idea as it cost nigh on thirty quid !!!!
You can also get a boat from nearby that stops right outside the O2 :D

So, all in favour of the Market Porter, say ay !
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....
