I agree with most of that...EXCEPT, that the creative juices stopped after Yield!?!?!?
My friend, you don't believe this to be true with a masterpiece such as Binaural???
Breakerfall, Light Years, Nothing as it Seems, Of the Girl, Rival, Sleight of Hand...I mean, CAHM ON!!! haha....
Not only was the song writing/lyrics fantastic, but the recording was so...ah! I can't even explain it. There is a mood on that record that we will never hear/see/feel again. Just like Vitalogy, VS. , and No Code
I guess I am little shocked and shaken that everyone doesn't agree with me! haha
this happen in pit all the time,,u expect that your opinion is logical, but in the end people believes so different things away from u.and ys binaural is so great album
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
I guess I didn't explain my point of view clearly enough. I agree with you about Binaural. It's exceptional. I love it. It really has lasted the test of time and has improved with repeat listens over the years, but for me it just didnt match the sheer beautiful dynamics of Yield. And as for Riot Act, I love it too. Some amazing stand out tracks on that too, however, they do go thru the motions A LITTLE on a few tracks which weaken an otherwise superb album.
Response: That is funny because I think I did the same...
I think Yield grabbed me quiker than Binaural and now that I am thinking...a lot quicker. Yield is AMAZING. However, I think after time Binaural because the fine wine for me. Now, Binaural wins by a nose
For me Riot Act is what most feel about S/T. I think Riot Act is that return to VS. (don't throw food at me yet).
It is NOT Vs. by any stretch of the imagination. However, it is just more of a gritty record (despite my buddy's view of ed's voice on those sessions). It is simple and direct and love RA
But Avo/S/T !! As you succinctly put it "CAHM ON !!!! CAHM ON !!! It feels tired and flabby in places and lacks any progression musically and lyrically. For me it could've been "Lost Dogs" II. B-sides and demos from Bi,Riot sessions !! Not good enough !! Simple as that. Desert Island discs moment : I would NOT take this feeble studio effort with me. Damn sure.
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
I appreciate PJ's ability to challenge their listeners. This one song's style shouldn't be indicative of the entire album, so don't freak out! With Backspacer clocking in at 36 minutes, I almost expect some fast barn-burners. After a few listens, I really like the song, especially the bridge

I have a wife and children and I love Pearl Jam more than all of them. It's close between my middle child and the band but I think PJ wins because they've been in my life for 18 years now.
Looking forward to the record.
I assume you're joking with this post. You might want to throw in a smiley face so people don't think you're a huge douche. I know sarcasm when I see it, but on the boards everything looks serious. Good day to you, sir.
I laughed so hard when I read that...also married...with one child... and even my wife knows I love PJ more than her But on a serious note this is the most excited I've been for one ove their albums since vitalogy. Love both songs so far.
awesome song. it's like a mish mash of PJ with the police and bruce springsteen. and wow to the production. on first listen it cemented that no one should be producing/engineering pearl jam but brendan o'brien/nick didia. it got me thinking that eddie specifically isnt shying away from writing catchy pop melodies. it has obviously been known in the past that he would rework stuff to avoid that to an extent which got me thinking, i wonder which songs on past albums got that treatment from him and what the original versions sounded like.
i remember you...i was gonna vote for you one time...but voting isn't cool so i stayed home and got trashed on listerine.
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
It is not a bad song, maybe a small step down from WWS which was a funny but ultimatly awesome single. I ordered five copies of this one on faith.
I thought Avocado was as good as anything they have ever done. Binaural was on the same golden plateau of Yield in my books, but Riot Act dipped into strange territory. Ghost, Can't Keep, Cropduster, All or None, Get Right, Arc and Half Full are excellent though. Green Disease, I am Mine and Save You are decent also. In the Moonlight is incredible if that is from those sessions.
I have every faith in the band and always will, but some elements of the fixer are always going to make me wonder, like what were they thinking on that piano and love line?? Imagine rawer and heavier would have been a good way to go. On a side note toronto 06.
I like the song. Seeing a vinyl release on the band's site has me wondering what the b-side will be. I'm hoping it's not just another track from the album like they did with Nothing As It Seems. It seems like there should be enough material from these sessions for a few b-sides.

I'm new to 10C and, actually, to PJ music- just discovered them this year (was raising kids, doing the American Dream thing- oblivious to many things cool), so my two cents is worth about a penney at most. I was fully blown away by early PJ music- and by Eddie Vedder- It's frankly changed me- I don't know if that level of passion and creativity can be equalled, but I'm looking forward to hearing other stuff from Backspacer. Heard the Fixer on local radio- 91X in San Diego- sound great on radio- And yeah, the up-tempo stuff is what they do- and it's amazing- but I want to hear Eddie's voice on a ballad- you think there'll be one or two?

I think through listening to some of the bands interviews that there will be more like three or four ballads. Either Mike or Stone said in an interview that Eddie contributed five songs to the new album and that his songs are reminiscent of his solo album, which are almost entirely ballads. I know Eddie has played at least two ballads from the new album on his solo tour and a British journalist who has reported hearing the whole album said there is at least one ballad that particularly stands out.

I like the new song. Think it may take a few listens after just hearing it on the home page.
I look forward to not hearing it on UK radio anytime soon.....
maybe live in London will be better?

It's growing on me after a few listens. Is it available for download yet? I couldn't find in on itunes and have done a google search and come up with zilch, maybe we get it later here in the UK?

The B-Side WILL be an album track - Supersonic. You can see it right there on the GOODS page.
Regarding "The Fixer" tune itself - it's a decent track. I'm not overwhelmed by it, but I one thing I do have to say is THANK GOD FOR BRENDAN O'BRIEN! The tune SOUNDS great - drums are crisp, vocals are clean. As long the rest of the album production is comparable to this and the tunes are as good, I'll be mighty pleased!

I love it & know the boys will rock the shit out of live! Eddie sang "The End" at his Baltimore show & it is outstanding, for those of you who have not heard it yet- you are in for, what I feel, one of the best PJ songs ever.
I too, have been a fan forever-18 yrs-Boston 1994, my first show. The band has grown, as I have. I am thankful for that. I mean who wants to hear the same old shit released over & over- if that is what I wanted I would be in the "New Kids" fan club. I am not saying that everyone HAS TO LOVE every song. Myself, I have my favs & there are a few I skip over when listening to my IPOD. However, if I am in my car listening to the radio and PJ comes on- it does NOT MATTER what song it is, it is turned up and rocked out to. They are that good.
I do not give a rats ass who does not like the new song, so be it... Dont be shy, say it-I am not gonna hate on you.
But I like it & I know a whole lot of fans out there, they are going to be screaming at the next PJ show they go to, right along with Eddie " Fight to get it back again..." I have a feeling even the fans that are not feeling it yet will be joining in too. As for me,"When somethings dark, let me shed a little light on it"
A smile automatically appeared on my face while I was listening to it...so I'm in

The version I have heard I think was a dumbed down version (not high quality). I heard it the other day on BBC1 and turned it up in the car....WOW!!! I love it...I can't wait to hear the GOT SOME
look i'm glad you guys like it, and thats cool and all, but i listened to it again today for the first time in a week, and i still think its overly polished crap. do they even record live as a band anymore? to be honest this song just puts me in a bad mood.
Of course, this song will be fun live, once all the garbage is stripped out of it and it sounds like a real rock band is playing it, but there was a time when their studio output could at least approximate the raw energy of their live shows.
Well, here's my attempt at The Fixer...all comments (+ or -) welcome. Its kinda sketchy (first time doing this kinda thing, too loud and the tone's a little too crunchy) but to be fair, it was done in one take through my laptop. Hope you like it!
really liked this new song. The way Eddie sang it first reminded me of a Tom Petty song. not really sure which one. but after hearing it a few times, with knowing the lyrics a bit more now, I don't see it that way. I can't wait for the new cd!

I'm sensing a little Paul Westerberg influence in this tune,...or am I just crazy??? ...I think not.
