... mostly because of the fade out !!! I hate fade out in a song.

yeah, i agree. they didn't need to fade out this song. i could really hear them just ending it forcefully without the fade and it would be awesome...especially with the way the guitars and drum sounds in the song. very catchy tune. i like it.
I died. I died and you just stood there. I died and you watched. I died and you walked by and said no. I'm dead.

they'll probably do that when they play it live ;)
  • I like it. Makes me happy.

I have a wife and children and I love Pearl Jam more than all of them. It's close between my middle child and the band but I think PJ wins because they've been in my life for 18 years now.

    Looking forward to the record.

I assume you're joking with this post. You might want to throw in a smiley face so people don't think you're a huge douche. I know sarcasm when I see it, but on the boards everything looks serious. Good day to you, sir.

In retrospect, I don't think an emoticon would have saved the joke. I forgot to add any form of humor before I posted it. Still, I don't think anybody really cares what I say anyway.

I do love me some Pearl Jam though.

    First Post Shitty Joke Writer

I thought the joke was better without any emoticon, it just left that creeping doubt in your mind that you could be serious, which is why it was funny..... and what made me wonder what was wrong with the elder and younger of the children!!
we're all going to the same place...

I'm ok with this fade out, not too much going on, actually. The one I really don't like is the fade on Life Wasted. Because I heard the un faded version and it was so great. When S/T came out, I felt deprived when I heard the Life Wasted fade-out. On the other hand, I think I am mine could have used a fade if it would have meant a longer solo. I think that one has a premature ending. I thought, "Oh but wait until it is live, there will be a 10 minute solo". Nope, live was the same. For the people suggesting that maybe the Fixer will get lengthened live, lets hope but I'm not sure they will depart much from the studio version. Especially in the 1st year. I bet they will speed up the tempo and the song will last 1 minute and 45 seconds as a result. Like Severed Hand live. Slow down and let us savor it. I don't think they will depart much from the studio version much. I think they really cant much. If you rotate 90 songs in everchanging set lists, you have to stick with the program on any individual song. Any departure has to be rehearsed i.e., song re-written for the tour. Like Zeppelin sort of did.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

That joke is great! I'm a big fan of humor that makes fun of the people who take Pearl Jam way too seriously!

Then it is settled. I am hilarious.

Maybe the fade-out is a radio edit?

When I listened to it at midnight I didn't really like it all that much, but didn't really dislike it either. Maybe I was just tired. Listened to it again before I left for work, and same thing, didn't really move me in either direction.

But I heard it again on my lunch hour on the radio, blasted at full volume as it's tough to hear with the top off my Jeep, and I fell in love with it. An excellent driving song. Can't wait to see them play this one live!
  • I can't decide if I like it or not, but it's got the makings of a pretty big hit. I have not been a fan of the songs they choose as first singles since Given to Fly.

  • They should have named this sound SELL-OUT instead, cuz that's what it is. It sounds exactly like Kings of Leon. Pearl Jam's draw is the classic personality of their music (for me, anyways), and does NOT sound like them.

If Kings of Leon sounds like Pearl Jam, it's called "influencing" but if Pearl Jam sounds like Kings of Leon it's "selling out." Oh please, where does it end?

  • Great song! I think it's funny that everyone hates it so much. It's better than some of the crap on Avocado and that album walks on water here.

Wow! Ed finally sounds like he's TRYING to sing! The last few albums had a "haggard old man" sound to much of the vocals. Don't know if I LOVE this song.. but it may grow on me. This albums showing some promise!

I cant decide either. I wasnt a fan of Who You Are as the first single of No Code, but No Code became one of my favorite albums. I like this song better than Who You Are, I just hope the more "radio friendly" sound doesnt alienate some of PJ's fans.

this song is good. the keys sound like 80's music at the end. its fun..i think this will be really loud and hard live.
remember the showbox? i could only hear the rift and it sounded great. can't wait for chitown.

that being said all of my favorite songs ever..true favorites.. took a long time to love. they all grew on me. like of the girl, present tense, immortality. songs with great lyrics and emotion.

i instantly like these songs and that scares me. anything i like off the bat i get sick of cause there's nothing to figure out

    ..not complaining. i swear :D

  • I didn't like the track at all. It sounds as if it came right off S/T
The recording is too down the middle...no atmosphere or mood

Ten - Riot Act (love them all equally)
    S/T - not so much
    Backspacer - worried

I heard the song this morning and it put a big dopey smile on my face. It's got a lot of heart, and it's a tweaky enough tune to earn repeated listens. We all know the album will also have a good dose of slammin rock tunes with searing Mike solos and Ed has surely found a few things to get pissed off about. The song is for the radio, for the world to hear.

It sounds like it stems from the same vein that gave life to Parachutes and Unemployable, and I think would have actually fit perfectly in between those two songs on the album.
  • I am starting to warm up to it. It kind of reminds me of U in it's simplicity. I was cleaning my bathroom and played the song on repeat for a few listens. I think that's the key to enjoying it,be active while it's on. I wasn't too hot on it while sitting on my ass in front of the computer, but it sounded great while I was cleaning out my sink!

i listened to it once, also liked got some

    both good songs+

but i'm sheep, cause i like just about every song on every cd by this band

personally i just cant bring myself to repeated listens of less than perfect digital downloads by artists that i really love. i need to hold the actual cd...cause it just doesn't feel right listening with out it

so i'm back to blackout mode for now

I got an e-mail from santos saying that I have to unlisten to the song because I was caught refreshing the webpage and heard it before 12:00. if they catch me again, I have to unlisten to their entire catalogue..

I like this song more than I do the "Got Some". I hope the loud Eddie in my car brings "Got Some" to my liking. Hearing it on Connan was good, but I know when I hear the whole line up I will probably find a place in my heart for it. I remember when Vitalogy came out I was questioning is this really the road my favorite band is going down. I absolutely love Vitalogy now. I hope we all understand that OUR BAND PJ has made some music decisions that have confused us but when we all start listening and get passed the hype, we start appreciating the true song. I love The fixer cause it screams the summer of 09'. We need to want to fix this world and economy and I think Ed is suggesting we get excited for the future and what it has to offer. Fix it DO NOT GIVE UP. Thanks PJ, and I can not wait to see you in Seattle.
