Do's and Don'ts off the pit?

Dear mods, Kat, Sea, SLH, and rubys dad, etc. Can you please make a locked sticky thread that let's the user of the pit know what is allowed. I also use Primus's message board, they call it the Bull Board. The first thread on every topic over there has the rules. Please post the rules here so everybody knows. Thanks alot Yostarama

    7. Trading PJ shows even-up, ok. Bootlegging (selling), not ok. Offering to buy bootlegs, not ok. Links to bootlegger sites, not ok. 2 for 1 trades is making profit, not ok. Scalping, not ok. Offering to pay any price for a ticket is inviting scalpers. Not ok.

    They didnt do any of this though.

    Registration to this forum is free! Please note, you must register with a valid and active e-mail address. One user name per person. The Pearl Jam Message Pit is an all-ages, topical and moderated forum. We'll be talking about Pearl Jam's music, new albums and tours. Most of all...please be kind and take care of each other and HAVE FUN!!


    Posting Guidelines

    1. Be nice. We're very big on RESPECT here. Respect for each other, the band and the bbs environment. Please remember you are as a guest in someone else's home. Please do not put your posting privileges at risk.
    2. Discuss, disagree and debate politely. It's possible to disagree with people without being abusive.
    a. We operate on the "I'm rubber, you're glue" philosophy so if you make a wonderful,
    thoughtful post with good points and call the other guy a moron while you're at it, it'll be
    removed. See #3.
    3. There are people bashing and insulting each other all over the internet. We feel it can be better here.
    4. The topic is Pearl Jam's music. (and related...most topics can be tied into Pearl Jam in some way) Please use the wonderful Private Message feature for chit chat and mind blowing personal conversations about "What you ate for lunch."
    5. The band's personal lives are private.
    6. Please do a search first for a topic that interests you instead of creating a new thread. That'll help prevent 10-20 threads on the same subject and you'll catch the discussion you may have missed.
    7. No Spamming, Flooding, or Trolling (Inciting Flames).
    8. Please do not respond to trolls...it just makes more work and you could lose your posting privileges in the process by joining an inappropriate thread.
    9. Trading PJ shows even-up, ok. Bootlegging (selling), not ok. Offering to buy bootlegs, not ok. Links to bootlegger sites, not ok. 2 for 1 trades is making profit, not ok. Scalping, not ok. Offering to pay any price for a ticket is inviting scalpers. Not ok.
    10. Please respect an artist's copyright. Linking to or otherwise promoting stolen art is prohibited.
    11. Gossip, not ok. Please don't do it.
    12. Please remember: We're just a l'il message board with limited bandwidth; we're not a chat room. There are off-site forums where you can set up your own chat room for personal conversations. In an effort to conserve bandwidth we will perform bbs maintenance by regularly and/or randomly removing off topic and/or old posts.
    13. If you have a disagreement with someone, (and it happens occasionally) please take it to Private Message to resolve it. Arguments are removed...it poisons the atmosphere.
    14. Try thinking of the bbs as if you were at a show. If the people next to you are fighting, it interferes with your enjoyment of the show.
    15. Your postings reflect upon you. Please be thoughtful and double-check to be sure you're saying something you can be proud of before you hit the Submit button. If you've said something to get yourself banned, it applies to any new screen name, not just the screen name that made the problem posts. We do our best to give polite hints by deleting problem posts first, please take note of that. We might also temporally ban (suspend) your account. If while on suspension you created another account, your temporary ban will become permanent.
    16. Banned Members: If you have been banned by forums.pearljam.com and attempt to register again using some means to get around the ban, such as using another email address, you agree to a $23,000.23 USD reinstatement fee. By clicking "register" you agree to this fee.
    17. Please remember the bbs operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week and we don't. If you see a post that warrants moderator attention, please use the "report this post to a moderator" link within the post.
    18. This is the basic outline of the rules. Matters not listed in these rules will nonetheless be dealt with. Always use common sense before posting.

    well couple things on the guidelines aren't adhered to , like name calling etc, lotta disrespect going on here and it seems like they don't apply the guidelines evenly across the board.Without having specific info on why either D and L got banned we may be up in arms over something that we all have gotten away with.

    Isn't it pretty much "don't call anyone a fuckwad" and "don't talk about which band members are expecting babies."

    Instead of posting rules, I wish they'd make stickies out of the same irritating threads that get posted over and over.

    I wonder if there is a place to go to where I can talk about PJ and hear news about them without so much fear that a line may be crossed or that my words may be suddenly missing and replaced with a box that denies my access. I used to get on here and enjoy myself...today I feel like I am subjecting myself to something.

    They should at least add something about dvds to be specifically stated in rule #9...assuming that's what all the fuss is about

    Its a shame we lost two of our best and most generous board members today - that said, I think it has been made clear around here that DVDs are prohibited - D has made his reputation on sharing these over the years and it was probably only a matter of time until it cost him his account.

    I don't think the issue is knowing the rules as much as the consuquences. I had a very respectful exchange in PM with Kat, and she reinforced that there is to be no trading of DVDs on this site. My guess is that anyone offering DVDs will be met with similar fate, so it is best that we expect this when/if we decide we want to use this forum for our trading needs.
    For those who scoff at "Jamily" in my name... 9 years ago, when my first daughter was born there were jokes about whether my priority would be my family or PJ. I smiled and quipped "I am a JamilyMan." What was a family joke became a hated term among jammers. Didn't see that one coming!

    Wow, I'm just now catching up and realizing those two aren't around anymore. It IS sad to see them go, whatever their transgressions. I only had one interaction with L, but both struck me as very generous with their time and energy towards others in the Pit. hmph.

    So if I traded someone my Showbox DVD for there Single Video Theory DVD I will be banned? I Know I Know, they mean the one's they didn't make money on!!

    I dunno...the band has always been super liberal about trading - I still can't believe I can legally download hundreds of shows - many of which were professionally recorded and mixed by engineers employed by the band (as long as they are no longer offered for sale). If they want to draw certain lines in the sand, the least I can try and do is follow them. Just my thoughts on the issue. It may not make sense, but their policies could be far more restrictive.

    That's harsh.

    People make mistakes.

    They get very excited about having cool stuff to trade with other fans.

    Obviously this isn't the place to do it...but sometimes we all have momentary lapses of reason especially about stuff as cool as what we are all *not* talking about.

    That said... these were sad mistakes... :(

    These two cool guys will be missed. :(

    It's really not that harsh. Do you know how many times you have to make the same "mistake" in order to be permanently banned from this site? It's more than once and it comes with a warning.

    Deliberately trading DVDs after you've been warned not to is not exactly a "mistake."
