Aside from losing the awesome experience of doing road trips to several concerts as someone pointed out on another thread, this is an odd time with the economy being what it is to ask everyone to fork over money to fly. Philly reps the East, Chicago reps the Midwest and LA reps the West. With the "no plans for shows in 2010 statement", I'm really feeling left out. With the exception of ACL, where they'll probably play for an hour, I'm not able to see any of the concert shows because I haven't had a full-time job in 17 months.

    What does everyone think?

Hell 70% of their fanclub is made of of elitist pricks so it only makes sense.

If 70% are elitist, then it is not a very elite elite!

I don't think the band is elitist at all. I do however think a number of people around here and at the shows are. Particularly those with low numbers always in the front rows. And just look at the multiple "Eddie Concert Etiquette" threads.

asking for people to be respectful at the Ed shows and pipe down so everyone can hear what he's saying/singing in an intimate setting isn't elitist, it's courteous.

They have families now, they dont want to be on the road for months.

I dont get why people dont understand that. Do I want them to play Detroit every year, of course. (and I get it that Im pretty close to Chicago so save those responses) Deal with the fact that they arent 20/30 yr old single guys anymore and have other priorities that are more important than touring.

It sucks for everyone that cant see them because they arent playing close enough, but come on

Sorry I don't see the correlation between them having families and chosing to remain active professional musicians. Touring/travel is part of the package just like many other pros jobs. Its what butters their bread and they don't appear to be retiring with release of new music.

Honestly, most guys their age would still be working 40+ hours a week, these guys have got it made it the shade. That being said, I completely understand the decision to spend more time with their families. However, there can certainly be a balance between touring like they did when they were younger and announcing a "North American Tour" that consists of dates in only FOUR cities.

This is a band that has spent the last 18 years cultivating a RABID fan base that likes to tour. We all know this. So why do so many people on this board continue to brow beat anyone who has the gall to voice their dissapointment. Its ok if this is how PJ wants to operate. But if this is the case, I think it should be ok for fans to be able to share how they feel about it without being marginalized.

I hate to be rude but...

Maybe find a job between now and then so you can save up some money to go to the shows that are being played. I really don't see why it's PJ fault or how they are being "elitist" by not playing in your backyard. They are not forcing you to do anything. If you can't afford to go to the shows then you can't go.....simple as that.

You're not being rude, you're being ignorant, like several other posters. It just so happens that I haven't had a full time job for 16 months - NOT BY CHOICE. I am not uneducated, unskilled or unintelligent. It simply doesn't make sense for me to work for $16 an hour when I could be spending that time looking for a REAL job. It's a full-time job to FIND a job these days.

For you, and so many other sanctimonious, smug assholes to respond to a question with crass and insensitive answers - including photos - is indicative of the egocentricity that permeates your thinking.

Thanks to the few of you who had the decency to grant my questions some credibility with a logical response.

As to affordability... I'd be overjoyed to drive to Dallas, New Orleans, Oklahoma City even Northern Florida (as an example) as we fans were privileged to do in years past.
And just to set the record straight for those of you who don't understand the word elitist - I was not referring to politics or a conspiracy theory - AGAIN - just the idea that in tough economic times, we fans can fly to regional shows.

Oh, and as to Austin, a 3 day pass to ACL is over $300. I'm hoping to buy a Sunday pass from someone for CHEAP to see them play for an HOUR to maybe an HOUR and A HALF.

i think the term 'elitist' is over-utilized on this board. that said, no, i don't think they are elitist, nor do i think it is an elitist move on their part. right now, it's a small tour, just a kick-off. i think smaller markets WILL see shows in the coming year in full support of their new album. that said, i think the band is simply being strategic, balancing their lives, trying to still reward their fans, but you bet...doing what they have always done - doing things on their terms. the band, like many, are at a point in their lives where they have young families. they also are at a point of (more than likely) damn fine financial success. of course one caqnnot know with certainty, but i still feel pretty secure in assuming that if they wanted to never put out another album or tour again, they all could still manage damn comfortable lives. they continue to make music and put on live shows b/c they WANT to. however, they also want to see their families. i think ANY one of us would do the same....try to find the BALANCE that works for us. beyond that.....they play these large metropolitan areas simply b/c they ARE large, meaning - LOTs of fans in a given area. if you're only going to do a couple of shows...doesn't it make sense to go to areas with significant populations of your fans? that's not elitist, that's just common sense. beyond that...i do believe they'll spread the love around, later.

What you say makes sense and I'm really hoping you're right.

I think the fucking fans are the ones becoming elitist!! I f they don't play a hop skip & a jump from peoples houses then they wanna talk shit and moan and cry!

First of all...you know dam well that these are not going to be the only US tour dates to support a new album...they will take some time off after this little stint and then they will be back on the road and touring the south as they all said they were going to and then the North East will get some shows...how do i know this..easy...past experience..i know this band!!

sometimes we are quick to scream foul play when we are upset and we let our emotions get in the way of our rational thinking...i have been guilty of this myself...live and learn!.

I'm from Boston one of their biggest markets...i have no doubt in my mind that they will be here sometime in the next year or so...but for now...thank God i am fortunate enough to go to Philly!!!

hang in there OP..they will be around your way sooner or later!!

    Thanks U R A Crazy Breed-

The fact that you think that a $16/hour job, in this poor economy,"doesn't make sense", may be considered an "elitist" comment by many people here........seems a bit dodgy that you are looking for pity.

amen brother... id kill for an $8/hour job right now - let alone $16... not stupid or lazy either... i applied to atleast 25 different places when i got home from school (shit like home depot, hobby lobby, subway, applebees, etc etc) and didnt hear back from ANYWHERE! there just arent any jobs to be had... im just glad i have one waiting for me when i get back to school

"elitist" has to be the most ambiguous namecalling ive ever heard... if its about making lots of money then PJ has always been elitist... if its about attitude - well i dont think any of us know them well enough to say for sure... but they atleast seem like the same guys theyve always been

Do you know anyone who pays a mortage and lives on $16 an hour? Secondly, I'm not looking for any "pity", I'm just stating the facts. You people don't read what is written, you read what you want to read so you can have a reaction to it and post. Oh, and I'm a lonnnnnngggggg time past my college days.

*and whats with all these territorial fights this tour? its every region of the US against eachother against the rest of the world... has it ever been like this in the past or is it just a last straw thing with alot of people? i dont remember

The guys are playing the city's & towns on the days & times specified because it's what they want to do. A tour like this has to be easier on them and much less expensive.
They've been doing this for nearly 20 years now. I would imagine it is a lot more like "work" now, than it was back in 1994.
Be happy they are still incredibly active & relevant.

Oh tahts right I remember seeing all the whiing when they have done limited tours in the last few years coming from OZ ( well NO THER WASNT WAS THERE)
My point of people flying halfway around the globe as apoosed to somebody sitting 1/2 day away froma venue bitching its not fair. Not their fandom. just their passion. none of them has whined.
PJ tour the US often, they play festivals as well
Here in Oz we expect a tour every few years , generally after an album release. so we are patient and stoked when it happens

and my point being that your point is shit (sorry to be blunt)... cars dont run on passion... gas cost money (australians of all people should understand that)... the fact that theyve played 3 tours now without hitting the south is all the MORE reason for people complaining... if every time you consoled yourself with "next time" because you didnt have the money to travel and they kept passing you up it would start to bug ya... more so because its just out of reach... but it seems this tour was the last straw

australia is used to the waiting between tours because A) you dont have the "me first" attitude that comes with 24 hour supermarkets, free refills, and other American selfishness and B) most great/popular bands are American and thus give America preferential treatment - doing a full world tour maybe every 5 years at best

im not even with the complainers... im seeing my show this tour... just playing devils advocate... pro-reason :D

You know I just posted a fairly lengthy reply on this thread, detailing the remarks I got for shelling out $124 for two EV shows in Hawaii (where I live), discussing the recent increase in ticket prices, and stating that I thought it was beginning to get to me. Then I deleted it. Going back over some of the other replies in this thread, I realized all I wanted were a few answers, not complaints and ugly remarks. I realized I didn't want to be a part of something like this.

I never made $16 an hour at any job until I finished law school. Maybe you need to accept that in this economy, you're not going to get paid what you deserve or have the kind of job your experience merits. Everyone's getting humbled these days. :( After 17 months, isn't a $32,000 annual income better than nothing? We have teachers that make less than that...

Most people working 40+ hour weeks go home at night though and see their families and spend time with them on the weekends. Touring means potentially 2-3 months of not seeing the family. Even if it's fewer hours overall, it's a totally different kind of time. Not saying it can't be done, but it's their prerogative and if they have the luxury of not having to do it and choose not to, I'm not going to fault them for it. It's their lives.

The fact that you think that a $16/hour job, in this poor economy,"doesn't make sense", may be considered an "elitist" comment by many people here........seems a bit dodgy that you are looking for pity.

Do you know anyone who pays a mortage and lives on $16 an hour? Secondly, I'm not looking for any "pity", I'm just stating the facts. You people don't read what is written, you read what you want to read so you can have a reaction to it and post. Oh, and I'm a lonnnnnngggggg time past my college days.[/quote]

yes... Millions of people do it making 33,000/year.

I don't know anyone that pays a mortgage on $0 an hour for 17 months either though... I'd imagine you can make more payments if you're making $16 an hour than $0?
