First, drummer was in absolute beast mode. Couldn't agree more. His style was perfect! Loved it!

I don't know what it is about Jack white for me but he may be the most interesting artist I have seen. I am totally annoyed by his antics, and I barely believe anything he says... With all that, he is one of the most talented musicians I have ever seen live.

Just watched the Pandora interview good stuff , he doesn't write set list for shows just goes on feel of the crowd ....cool as fuck

True, yet the beginning of the MSG show's set was very similar to Bonnaroo's set, so there are some patterns that he does follow. I agree that it's cool as hell and a great idea not to have a setlist.

Total nonsense on his setlist rant. He has basically rotated the same 5 or 6 songs off Lazzaretto in approximately the same show position. He has kept 2 or 3 covers. And has held on to the same 4-6 white stripes/racantours tunes... With the balance of songs rotating.

It may rotate a bit but I would hardly call it "shuffle" or not planned.

he puts himself on a pedestal for not writing setlists. that works for solo artists and people who don't use different tunings. can you imagine Ed running around to all 5 other guys on stage in between songs to tell them what to play next? and then the roadies have to figure out which instruments and which tunings are needed next? that would be a disaster.

Hey guys. Without having to read 56 pages of this thread. I'm out of touch with most current music. I've listened to some samples on itunes of Jack White and like it. What is a suggested first buy for someone who knows none of his music?

I would start with the White Stripes catalog. Listen to his early stuff, then migrate to solo stuff (Blunderbuss, Lazaretto) I would also check out The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather as well.

lol, but then again I just named everything he has done...lol I may be no help, I enjoy all his stuff.

I would say Elephant and Blunderbuss.

I was at the MSG show last friday. I had a great time but as others mentioned the set should have been longer. This was my fourth time seeing JW and it was the weakest setlist IMO. However, it sounded great and the energy was immense. I also loved that Q Tip came out and that Zach de la Rocha came out with the opening band.

I love White Stripes. Don't listen to Get Behind Me Satan much, though. Don't like his solo stuff at all for the most part. Bought Blunderbuss. Sold it. Checked out Lazaretto. Bought two songs off iTunes and can't stand the rest. He's going too twang Nashville for me. But I'm in the minority here, as most people seem to love Lazaretto.

I personally can't get into Raconteurs.

I love Dead Weather, but that's a different animal completely. Jack is the drummer in that band. You can feel his musical influence on the tracks, but he only sings one or two songs.

He also did a few bluegrassy tunes on the Cold Mountain soundtrack (he also had a small acting role in the movie).

Awesome thanks guys. A bit of twang Nashville probably won't bother me much (my ex-wife got me in to country a bit). It sounds like the suggestions are all over the place, so I'll just get whatever. I appreciate the posts :)

I was never into The White Stripes but pre-ordered the Lazaretto 'Ultra' vinyl, partly because of the novelties with it. What a decision that was. Love the album! Got tickets to see him in Leeds last November so dug into Blunderbuss. That's been on constant rotation ever since. Since Xmas I've bought all WS lps except the debut (and Get Behind Me Satan because it's on out on vinyl) plus the live Under The Great Northern Lights vinyl. Off first listens, I've enjoyed Icky Thump over the rest of the WS stuff. I prefer his solo stuff to the WS but it's good.

I love that all his endeavors have a different sound. The White Stripes, solo stuff, Dead Weather and the Raconteurs and have a unique sound to me.
    Alright, alright, alright!

Quick question from non vinyl listener. Third Man just released a live Benjamin Booker album that was recorded there. I dont own any vinyl, and have no interest in starting now but i'd like to hear this. Does Third Man include digital downloads with their releases or am I out of luck.

Jack White boycotts Oklahoma U. for leaking his guacamole recipe, lol. (No idea. Of thwt's true of course.... i don't see why JW would be sensitive about his list of demands for his shows. Every artist has one, and most are way more unreasonable than his). I might try that recipe.

    http://uproxx.com/music/2015/02/jack-white-wont-play-university-of-oklahoma-again-after-they-shared-his-guacamole-recipe/

Interesting that the booking agency or whoever is also boycotting OU. This shit about the demands of artists is stupid. No one cares in the long run. Plus, they are ALL already available on The Smoking Gun.

I believe they're more upset about the financial terms being released, rather than the guac recipe or other terms of the rider.
