I'm a huge John Frusciante fan, and I do prefer the albums they made with him, but I get tired of people saying that it's not RHCP without him. They've been a band longer without him than with him and the new record will mean they've released more studio albums without him. Flea and Anthony are RHCP - just my 2c.

RHCP are a band that I often forget how much I like, if that makes sense. They disappear for a while, then come back with a cool new single that makes me go back and rediscover them all over again.

I agree, but I think you have to throw Chad Smith in there too. I know he hasn't been there since the beginning, but he's RHCP too.
I don't necessarily agree that it's not RHCP without Froosh, but he's the strongest creative force they've had at any point and time, during his second run. I like Klinghoffer as a live drop-in replacement, though.
Just presenting another point of view. I happen to love John in RHCP and in anything else musical he does. Shadows Collide With People is probably one of the most underrated albums in existence.

Both of em' are really good. Looking forward to this record. I'm With You was pretty good, but already like the two new songs better than all of the previous record.

Got to see them play a few new songs beyond the two that are already out last week at their iHeartRadio set, and it made me really anxious for the new record. Liked "Dark Necessities" a lot better after seeing it live. The title track came out literally right as I was leaving for the show. Wasn't crazy about it after a couple listens and they didn't play it live, so that one's going to have to grow on me. My favorite new song was "Go Robot," which they did with Thundercat where he and Flea had a double bass jam. Super funky and loved it. Also liked "This Ticonderoga," which was kind of hard charging before it has a dynamic shift which caught me off guard but was kind of cool.
Looking forward to hearing the rest.

IMO the best RHCP show since Frusciante departure!
Klinghoffer's guitar is finally loud enough

Saw them at Bottlerock. Put on a good show, but I don't think I would go out of my way to see them again. They just don't peak my interest like they did in the past. New material is solid, but I definitely miss Frusciante

On my first listen, I'm enjoying it so far. It's not mind blowing, but there's some good stuff, and the Chili Peppers and summertime just seem to go together so well. I know some people rag on them for talking about California all the time in their songs, but having visited California last year, it's nice to have a band who completely encapsulate all the good vibes - a world away from the grey skies British summertime usually brings!

Really dig the new album... the first three tracks they pre-released, the first three tracks are really solid, after my first listen I do not think this album is quite as good as "I'm With You" or "By The Way" but it may continue to grow on me.

Their iHeartRadio set that I attended a few weeks ago is streaming now. My early favorite off the album is "Go Robot," thanks to the double bass jam they did at this show with Thundercat.
