Frusciante is one of the greats. It's hard not to be excited for this album!
Absolutely! To be honest, given the state of rock music at the moment, I can't think of another rock band capable of making a significant impact in 2022. In some ways I don't think RHCP get the credit they deserve, their comeback starting with Californication was pretty incredible, and fingers crossed with Frusciante back in the fold they've got more classics in them.
If you live in New Zealand or have a VPN you can listen to the new single Black Summer on youtube - first listen and I loved it, great chorus, great guitar work!

Nice song, I liked it on first listen. Great to have that distinctive Frusciante tone back!

Nice!! Give us more insight if you can!
Well if you haven't heard it yet.....
that little snippet they released a few days ago is the opening couple of bars before Kiedis comes in, his vocal phrasing is quite striking, a bit of a sea shanty vibe! A subdued verse with some nice fluid guitar work from Frusciante, eventually building into a chorus with some very familiar backing vocals, leads into a cool bluesy guitar solo, a quieter section then it explodes back into a more energised version of the chorus with some decent vocals from Kiedis towards the end.
Vibe wise I think it could probably have fitted on any of the last three records Frusciante played on. Whilst I like their more energetic stuff, I think I'm more drawn to the mid-paced songs, so this ticks all the boxes for me.
what's with Anthony's vocals on this? the verses he sounds like he's trying to sound...how do I explain it....kind of with a "hick" inflection? But great song.

It’s weird but I’m sure I’ll get used to it. But holy shit Hearing that JF guitar tone, that solo……. Damn. His presence alone is just so incredible in that band.

Exactly. That was my first thought. WTF is this? They should just release an instrumental album someday.
