i was 11th row at the garden in 06 and the sound was mint...when Ed busted out his harmonica and did Smile (my first time hearing it live) that shit sounded awesome!!! easy to get to (i take the train 5 min from my house and it pulls in right under the venue!35 min ride! designated driver )& right off the highway
Mansfield is a good time if the weather is right and the cops aren't in Gestapo mode...the sound is very decent...but the traffic blows.

I never park inside there for any show. It blows getting out and the cops are even worse if someone has pissed in their corn flakes. I'd rather park outside, walk the 15 minutes, drink in peace and be home by 12:00 am.

last year at night 1 a cop claimed that there were 14 rapes at the dave matthews show earlier in the month
really?? and this didn't make the news?
cops can be such dicks... as i get older i lose more and more respect for some of them

Nowhere is worse than Hartford...
I actually got (accidentily) maced after the 2008 show...
Yes, the recent 2008 show... not the 1996 famous riot..
seems I had come up from the hill just after the Boys dropped a cloud of fun stuff on some gate crashers after the show!
I kept thinking.. why are they doing this now? The shows over????

Just jumping into this thread late Erik, but let me take this opportunity to sound off...
PLEASE PLAY FENWAY PARK!!!!!!!! This is getting kinda ridiculous year after year with bands like the Police, Phish and Neil f'n Diamond playing at our hallowed ballpark. I happened to run into Theo Epstein a few years ago before he went onstage in Boston 06 and asked him when PJ would play Fenway. His response? "Soon enough". Ive held onto hope because of that one chance encounter. However, 07 passed. 08 passed. 09 came and went with no sign they are playing. There are rumors swirling that after 2012 (the 100 year anniversary of the park) that ownership will reignite the flames of building a new park. We cannot let this happen without Pearl Jam first playing the park. They deserve it. We deserve it. I understand some people don't like the acoustics of the park and with good reason. It's a baseball park and its 100 freakin' years old! All the same, this would be a legendary show and so many of us on this thread would consider this event one of the greatest moments of our lives. So many great bars and clubs in the area for meet-ups before and after. We were blessed by the Good Lord in fighting back the demons and claiming what's rightfully ours in 2004 and I will always cherish that Fall. PJ playing Fenway would equal that for me.
Thanks for letting me ramble on about this for a bit. I've been wanting to do this on the board for a while now and this is the appropriate thread to do so.
Thanks and peace to the Mass-holes out there!

Nobody posts in the Given To Fly board when the band isn't playing.
Is there anyone out there?

As much as I would like to see Pearl Jam play Fenway, I think it would be a longshot. I know Theo loves the band, but unfortunately the ownership focuses on the interests of an aging group of season ticket holders. Some great bands have played Fenway (Rollings Stones, Bruce, Buffett, Police), but they are from a previous generation. Sure Dave Matthews has played, but I feel like they are kind of a neutral band. Neal Diamond just plain sucks.
I think another problem is that in order for live shows to occur at Fenway the ownership needed to get permission from the surrounding community. I remember reading in the Boston Globe last year about how the community was upset because they were under the impression that only one show would be played a year. Already that is changing with multiple live shows taking place at Fenway last summer. In addition, there is an early curfew that comes with playing Fenway. Bands have to start early and be done by no later than 10:30. I can't imagine a Pearl Jam show ending that early and would rather have them play The Garden or Great Woods. At least then they could play until 11:00-11:15.
Every year I hope that bands like Radiohead, Pearl Jam, etc are booked at the venue, and every year they are overlooked for "safe" acts. I don't think a band has played there that has any profanity either.
Who knows though. With Phish playing last year it may open the door to other acts. I agree that it would be a memorable show, but I would rather not have to have Pearl Jam conform to the rules and regulations that come along with playing Fenway Park.
PJ: 2003 Mansfield: July 2 2004 Boston: Sept 28 & 29 2005 Montreal: Sept 15 2006 Boston: May 24 & 25 2008 Hartford: June 27, Mansfield: June 28, 2010 Boston: May 17 2013 Worcester: Oct 15, Hartford: Oct 25, 2016 Hampton: April 18, Raleigh: April 20 (cancelled), Columbia: April 21. Quebec: May 5. Boston (Fenway): August 7
Not sure what the official rules of Fenway are but I wonder (hypothetically) if Pearl Jam played, could they begin the show at 7:30/8pm and be done at 10:30? I mean most Sox night games start at 7 so I can't see how this would be a problem.
How could we forget? Anyone reading this thread has experienced that at least once.
At least we'll get a few shows in Mass in 2010. I look forward to having a beer with all you guys before/after the shows.

but you have to remember....they play at least 2 hours every show!....with a lot of bands you're lucky if they play for more than an hour.

Hi there, I figured this would be a good place to say hello first and kind of introduce myself.
I live in Andover, and while a lifetime fan, I've only gotten to see shows in 06 and 08, and just joined 10c. Not sure why the delay in joining ... distractions I suppose. I was making plans for EV in Albany, but the gyst I get is that is not happening in lieu of an East Coast PJ tour?
anyway, got the EV single today and I wanted to drop in.

What's up kid? Welcome to the board! You came to the right place my friend...whole bunch of fellow massholes in this thread. You'll find out (if you haven't already) that U R A Crazy Breed is a surly MFer who loves talkin shit on the board...lotta funny stuff on this thread. Also, we're gonna be burning up the Red Sox thread on AET come spring training. Oh, and it always helps the post count unabashedly preaching PJ playing Fenway. By the way...PLAY F'N FENWAY!

Sounds good, and after getting a Garden and a Comcast Center (notice it's still labeled Tweeter on the 08 setlist?) show in, Fenway would complete the perfect trio for me.
I do have a confession to make.... I was born in Philly and lived there for most of my childhood. When it comes to sports I still root for the Phillies, Eagles and Sixers. I pretty much disowned the Flyers and am more of a Bruins fan now. Hard to support a team of thugs, you know?
In any event, I still follow the Red Sox (hard not to in these parts) and root for them most situations. You could say they're my favorite American League team.
don't worry shades...not everyone who lives in MA and posts here are all out Boston fans...we just keep those teams to ourselves and hold our heads high.

That's cool with me man. My roommate in college was a Mets fan and we got along fine. As long as you hate the Yankees, you're ok in my book.

let's hope we get Klausen to do the posters for Boston/ Mansfield this time..
I loved his 2004 tour posters!
we've had Ames for 2006 and 2008... (ugh!)
time for some Klausen genius..
can you imagine what he could do with the whole "octupus" theme??

i get the novelty of them playing there... but now that someone plays there every year... it's no big deal
personally i'd rather see them in a smaller place
and i'm still not convinced they can sell it out... which i think is a big reason they haven't been chosen
for them to fill fenway... you're going to need a lot of people whose favorite song is either jeremy, last kiss or betterman
and that will just kill the total energy of the show
look at night 3 in philly.. the casual fans were pumped off the world series excitement
night 4?? i've heard many comments about people checking their phone all night for scores...
anyway... play boston is all i want
with a Klausen set of posters..
could you imagine???
